A couple of months ago here at CAF there were a couple of Catholic posters adamantly stating that since we have Christ’s Roman Catholic Church we really do not need the Bible. I remember the consternation this caused to some of us Protestant members.
It is very refreshing to see that the Pope does not agree with the idea that we do not need the Bible!

The Catholic Church does not teach and never has taught (and never will) that we do not need the Bible. See Dei verbum
Pope Francis is really great at reminding us of important things like this.
That said, one has to remember that the church did precede the New Testament so some people get things wrong from time to time, but again…such mistakes are not in line with authentic and authoritative church teaching. Listen to Which Came First, the Church or the Bible?

I agree and stated that back there in the thread "Why if you do, don’t you beleive the RCC is the one true Church started by Christ?
In pst 241 Rinnie stated the Bible is not needed and in 268 PJM agreed that her statement was a great post!
I don’t believe the CC has ever taught that.

I guess if someone by their own design appears to be a fountain of knowledge that represents my viewpoint, I would hope they would be well versed in at least the basics.

Same here. Kellyanne Conway strikes me as a good example of someone who appears to represent my, and conservatives’ in general, viewpoint. And there are many other such examples, I don’t doubt. But an anonymous post on the internet? No I can’t see how people can reasonably conclude that it represents me – anymore than an anonymous post made by myself can be taken as representing other people.I guess if someone by their own design appears to be a fountain of knowledge that represents my viewpoint, I would hope they would be well versed in at least the basics.

True enough, however, it is a Catholic forum. I read that Protestants have all kinds of diverse opinions and how bad that is compared to the Catholic Church where there is unity. Surely pOsters who identify themselves as Catholic don’t have differing doctrines or different interpretations of the Catachiesm??

That’s true. But I’m glad it ended up here for whatever reason, because otherwise I may never have seen it.

Pope Francis in his statement says it contains the Word of God. It must be needed. That is what I am saying.
