Yes, I realize others were killed, I just mentioned that in my last thread. But the Jews were the targeted ones. Hitler wanted an Aryan race, blond, blue eyed people. He was a sick man.

No, others were targeted as well. Not just Jews. In his search for purity there were many more “undesirables” than the Jews.

And actually the blonde hair blue eyes thing isn’t entirely true.

Why should I read a book defending Pius against accusations of him being something I’ve never accused him of being? I’ve never suggested that he was some kind of bad guy - whether he could have done more or said more is another thing altogether and it’s arguable.

I’ve not even been discussing that, though, so you’ve picked the wrong poster for the discussion that you seem to want to have.

My argument (in any thread about Pius that I’ve ever been in, which isn’t often) is with the defenses of Pius that are commonly put forward here - like the ‘800,000’.

I do think that you’ve intimated that he wasn’t the greatest example of Papal Righteousness otherwise why did you join in the discussion?Until you avail yourself of all the truth,especially Dallin’s book it would be rather foolish and presumptuous for you to continue to comment on a subject that you admit you have no interest in examining for veracity.I thank you for your honesty.😉

I do not agree with this and I know the Jews will certainly not agree either. Are you saying the “others” outweighed the Jews of Hitler’s desires to be killed? That the Jews were not the targeted ones?
And YES, Hitler wanted all to be blond and blue eyed. Research your history.
 
ONE person inserted that inanity into the discussion.Kaninchen may not be so impolitic as to refer to Pius xII as Hitler’s Pope but she certainly intimated that he could have done a lot more and that she doubts the veracity of 800,000 saved.I gave her a source,she declines to pursue it.THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES.

Hitler found a friend in the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and had plans for an Indian (they are also Aryan) army.

I don’t know if you can speak for all the Jews, but anybody with any sense will tell you that alongside the Jews, many, many others died too.

And why are you placing the word others in inverted commas?

I’m fairly ‘‘up to date’’ (weak pun) on my history cheers.

There were groups in places like the Pripet Marshes who were pretty heroic.
As to Kaninchen’s point - while I don’t utterly agree with her I take her point that she is not arguing anytihng as nonsenical as ‘Hitler’s pope’. She and I are from different ends of the political spectrum as she is conservative and I am a socialist but I think she would agree with me that there are no easy or absolute answers as to the questions of who could have done more.

Indeed, it’s a complex set of issues with the Church and its members being in different situations in different countries at different times in the history of the Reich and its war.

LDN, your not getting it…I, as a Catholic, know that my own have died in the holocaust, but you haven’t answered my question yet. Question is do you think that it was mostly Jews that Hitler wanted anialated? Yes or no??

No. Jews we’re among the groups targeted and he certainly had a lot of hate for them. But Hitler wanted a lot of groups annihilated.
 
May I please remind people that the thread concerns a Rabbi’s thanks to PIUS XII not wildly inaccurate or revisionist history,nor who or how many were killed.Please stick to the topic.

Jews were to be first (I’m from a German-Jewish family) - had the Reich won the war, the Slavs were to be next - Eastern Europe and ‘European Russia’ were to be cleared (apart from slave laborers) to provide ‘living space’ for the German People.
