Tarkan, true to a certain degree but in practice, and ‘religion is the opium of the people’, how power was practiced by communist leaders…think also of Mao Tse Tung and the sordid life he lived, worst than Stalin or Hitler.

The young people today have grown up totally ignorant of communism, not realizing it killed more people than that of the Naziis.

The other key component of communism is disinformation. The Bolsheviks got involved with the Muslim Brotherhood during the 1930’s, and we see alot of disinformation coming from the Middle East…albeit, from all sources there in conflict with each other.

What is so good about truth is that it unites people whereas power divides, and as JPII said, when power comes in the first casualty is ‘TRUTH’.

I continue to be disturbed by P Francis’ comment. I have read his statement in context of his talk, but still, for us, it makes me pull back, and he is a most educated person.
This is sad but true. As someone in their 20s I can definitely say we are taught almost nothing about the ussr or communism. When learning the history of the 20th century we usually focus on wwII and the rise of fascism for the first half. For the second half of the 20th cent. we are taught about how “horrible” America was for fighting in Vietnam. High school history tends to skip to current politics after the fall of Saigon.

None of the Communists I ever met committed crimes against humanity either, but that didn’t stop them from being some of the most hateful people I’d ever encountered in my life. “Smash this, Down with that, He’s a Fascist, Revolution now, Death to Capitalists” etc.

There is another extreme where people don’t believe in welfare, healthcare safety nets and equal rights for the poor. This has seen just as much death and inhumanity throughout history.

None of the Communists I’ve met commited crimes against humanity so I’m not sure why you posted that in response to my post nor did they support those actions. Are you saying that they weren’t well intentioned?
I don’t care how well intentioned a belief is. All sorts of bad things have been done in the name of good intentions. Every single time the communist party came to power the same stuff happened. ps, I have met plenty of racists who think they are right and I disagree with them, even though they themselves never committed any actual crime.👍

Many western countries have this already and are not communist. Communism did nothing to end poverty and death. I think there is a reason why their own people overthrew them.

This!👍

You do have a point. There is a lot of anger. There are good people out there though, even the angry ones are just misguided. I still say they have the right intention, they just don’t have any way to cope with injustice except anger. Usually people grow out of it at some point.

Now that I think about it, I think most of the people have in mind were closer to anarchists than communists so maybe my opinion is skewed a bit. I can say that the Socialists were some of the worst people I ran across. Very annoying and seemed more interested in selling their little paper and discussing why Soviet Socialism wasn’t real socialism than actually helping people directly.

There’s only one definition of Communism, period. Communism is an economic system in which the means of production are held in common.
Communism is not just an economic system,it is a materialistic ideology and form of government that denies natural rights, which are given by God.

Yeah, and those extremes usually occurred under dictatorships and monarchies. It seems to mean that things like welfare, healthcare, etc, are more impacted by what political system a country has then by what economic system it has.

What I saw after the country went Marxist, was the labelling like we are seeing now in the USA that is constantly being levelled at white Americans. I talked with a young woman from Portland and she told me it is the white anglo saxon protestant that is to blame. white businessmen.

I look at the men I met who were part of fraternal like business at the local level, and they were the most decent people and worked to provide an economic system that was personable and generous. That culture is now quickly leaving us here in America.

We will indeed become a third world country seeing what has happened to the cream of the crop so to speak in our universities and colleges across the country.

What is even a greater reality is what personally happened to me.

Communism in its war against religion, against Christ, has a spiritual force to it. Communism is not just an economic system but one that labels and places those that don’t fit into its construct…like independent small businessmen who are carrying the brunt of Affordable Care Act…but has an idealogical system akin to the Christian religion.

but the fruits are not of the Holy Spirit, and its own theology…bad word, cannot think of the right one…has a spiritual force to it, a binding force that destroys the soul.

I was exposed to it, ruminated on it, and it grabbed on to my soul, and my faith went into an eclipse and I made some bad choices as to of this day I still suffer. What delivered me from exposure to communism was the wounds of the Holy Father when he was shot in Rome. When I heard the news, I immediately got on my knees and prayed the rosary, and after 15 min. my soul was delivered from the bondage of communism that was messing with my mind and confusing me.

I never accepted communism, but i saw it in the midst of suffering people. Some Africans told me that when the communist Chinese came in, they told them they were not going to change them but help them. Of course, such a posture after the history of the European colonies, gave them wide accesses to the rich natural resources of Africa.

What the pope actually means by “communists” is secular humanists and the socialists that exist amongst them.

Historically, all communists who ever achieved power (without exception), committed horrible crimes against humanity. The pattern was repeated over and over again:
-Come to power through revolution or USSR intrique
-mass arrests, deportations in the interest
-mass collectivization of all farms (always one of the most horrendous events)
-violent suppression whichever Christian religions are strong
-wash, rinse, repeat

And lets not fall into the trap of saying it was all a Stalinist perversion of Marx’s and Lenin’s plans. There was nothing done in the communist revolution which would have surprised Marx, and Stalin did nothing put take Lenin’s policies to the extreme and add the cult of the individual (which was already strong in the USSR at the time of Lenin’s death, although Lenin did not push that himself).

I just so happened to visit the CommunistPartyUSA web site the other day. Unbelievable that there are people who would even assume the name of Communist in this day and age. I would make the assumption that anyone, despite their rhetoric, who takes the name of communist is NOT well intentioned. The single act of assuming that name proves the point.

I’m not really disagreeing. My point is that individual communists have the right intentions but are misguided (in my opinion). They want to help the poor just like we do but disagree on how to do it. We do it one person at a time, they try to solve it all at once by changing the society. Thomas Merton (an ex-communist sympatizer) made the observation that the problem with the Communism is that it is rooted in hate for the rich where as Christianity is rooted in love for the poor. I agree that communism is an error and has a terrible track record.

I think a feeling of rebelion makes communism attractive. I know I felt a bit of pride in calling myself an anarchist when I was younger. Youthful idealism can easily lead people astry.

You are correct there is certainly hatred for the rich, but it would be more accurate to just say that communism is based on hatred. There is no need for the limiting qualifier.

History shows that individual communists do not have the right intentions, at least not when they achieve power or are part of a national party that achieves power. And there is actually very little concern for the poor in communist ideology.

Look at the specter of communism in the tactics now happening in the Ukraine these past months.

I heard an audio by Martin Malachi with John Paul II affirming that he heard the next world war would start in the Ukraine…Russia is now working against bad language…Russia to be the punishment for mankind for its sins…???

Communism was certainly the scourge of the 20th century. It’s methods were torture, terror, mass starvation, mass deportations, massacres, elimination of all opposition. 25 million killed in Russia by Bolsheviks and Stalin. 65 million killed in China under Mao, two million in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, millions more in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America. Forced relocation of populations by Ho Chi Minh, resulting in poverty and starvation.

Khrushchev promised to bury the U.S. And he tried his best, exporting revolution and executions wherever possible. Buy “The Black Book of Communism” before it become unobtainable. Now Russia is once again building up its nuclear missile force, even as the U.S. reduces its own deterrent forces. If it comes to war, we have already lost, by the loss of a credible deterrent.
