lol, you are a sad, silly little person. (Since you are so bent on people backing their statements up, I will happily refer everyone to the other thread that you are participating in.)

Trust me, I will be in Heaven. Happily for me, I don’t need to wonder if you will be there or not, as that is not for anyone down here to decide. Thank goodness God is in control.
Can I ask you a question? And, please do not bite my head off on this one. How do you KNOW you are going to be in heaven?

I saw this on comcast news today and I almost exploded. The pope only wants more power to control people’s beliefs. That is his job, after all. Ratting out on everyone and saying that they don’t have the salvation that Catholics do. He is one sick person to think that some Protestants will go to hell. Absoutly sick!

I prefer to think for myself rather than let other’s tell me what to believe.
If you think you can refute Church teaching I suggest you first state it correctly instead of substituting your teaching and then attacking it.

And Jesus went up to the money changers and sellers of sacrifices and patted them on the back and said, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant!” I don’t think so. He was angry on many occasions. At Peter: “Get thee behind me…”, at the Scribes and Pharisees, etc. Why not defend His Word? Oh, and did I mention, I’m not a Protestant.
If you’re not Catholic, you are Protestant.

Well, it certainly does appear that the Church (the one and only?) is “backtracking on ecumenical commitment.”
How is reiterating a doctrine that has been held all along backtracking? Now you may disagree with the Doctrine but to claim this is somehow “backtracking” is not correct.

That is a lie propagated by the Roman church. You can be catholic but not Roman Catholic.
Well yes you can as there are several Rites in the One True Church , all in communion with Rome. And actually in America we are , for the part, part of the :Latin Rite" which is generally referred to as “Roman catholic”

But I suspect that is not what you mean ,so if not ,tell me how one can be Catholic and not belong to the One True Church.

Before you give me the name of some protestant faith that calls itself Catholic let me tell you a story about Abrahan Lincoln when he was a lawyer. He asked a witness

" How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?" The witness replied "Five"Lincoln replied “The answer is Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it a leg.”

No, I think it is a lie that you are propagating, due to your lack of historical knowledge. Please, do us all a favor…read a history book.

Funny and astute. Unfortunately there are a lot of 5 leged dogs running around today.

That is a bit too general. You wouldn’t label a Moslem as a Protestant, right? But I understand what you are trying to say.

He said Catholic, not Roman Catholic, and of course you can be Catholic without being Roman Catholic, one such example would be the Byzantine Catholics.

It would also seem by your comment that the “lie propagated by the Roman church” is really due to your lack of knowledge of Christian history. If you would like I can recommend some good books that could help remedy this situation. 🙂

Because I am saved. Because He has saved me. Because I follow His commandments. Because He lives in my heart. Because the Holy Spirit dwells within me and guides me. Because I have been *validly *baptized. Because I believe that Christ died for my sins, and rose again from the dead. I know.

Please, do not start telling me that I am not going to Heaven. My salvation is not something that is up for discussion, period.

Hey relax a bit. It was just a question. It sounds like you are doing a pretty good job of things. I was just wondering if you were one of the people that thinks that once you are “saved” you can’t do anything to loose that salvation. But, it certainly sounds as if you are doing all that you should…following the commandments for example. It is certainly not for me to judge whether you are going to heaven or hell.

Cheers!

The Nicene creed has the following line:

“I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church”

That was before the schisms in the church which came much later in the church’s history.

The Pope simply re-stated what the church has stated since the time of Nicene and which us catholics say at Mass every Sunday where we worship God the father, his son and holy spirit.

It is the church we read about in the bible in the acts of the apostles.

Protestants see the eucharist as being symbolic while catholics take what Jesus said as literal, he who eats my body and drinks my blood lives in me and I in him (or her, it wasn’t so PC back then lol)

If we say all christian faiths are equal we as catholics are denying our faith, denying what we say is the truth as in the Nicene creed.

It shouldn’t upset anyone what the Pope stated, it is nothing new, it has existed in prayer since the early centuries of the catholic church.

Amen!

And, people need to understand that the Pope did NOT say that all Christians outside the Catholic Church are going to hell. On the contrary, the Church specifically teaches against that. What the Holy Father is saying here is that the Catholic Church was instituted by Christ and protected from error in its teaching by the Holy Spirit. Those who have left the Church to pursue Christianity in another church are wounded, as they have lost that protection from error. Simple as that. And, as you point out, this has been the teaching since the start.

And you base that on what?

BTW-if you come to a discussion forum and make unsubstantiated statements doesn’t get in a huff when somone asks for clarification.

And what came before the manmade Nicene creed?🤷

The Catholic Church-as it was described from the first century on. One thing we know for sure-there was no one who embraced anything even close to what Proetstants hold near and dear today. To be protestant one much believe that there is no Church History from the time Paul died to the Time Luther invented two new doctrines and married his girlfriend.

According to our understanding of hell. Hell is separation from God. God chooses for all of us to be with him. However, he is not going to force us to be with him. In order for us to truly love him we must have the free will to want to love him. Some of us will reject him. For those, they will go to hell, which they choose. That is actually a far kinder choice then the alternative. Which is being forced to spend eternity in heaven with the God that you have rejected and do not love.
Yes, true, but that also contradicts another thing in the Bible. According to the Bible, God judges us. We don’t get to choose heaven or hell(but personally, I think we do.) That’s onyl according to Scripture, again showing you how it contradicts itself.

I agree with most of what you said above. But I also say it’s never too late to chasnge. If we later wanted to come to God, we could. He’d understand and forgive us.

If you are a loving person and are sorry when you die for your sins, it’s quite obvious you will. God is the ultimate love and forgiveness anyway.I think that if you don’t learn everything you needed to in this life, you’ll get reincarnated, but I don’t wanna get this thread off topic. That’s my belief and logic, and does not have to be yours…
