Pope suggests Trump: not Christian

The article quotes Pope Francis as saying:

"The Pope appeared somewhat unaware of Trump’s stance on people who come into the United States illegally, though, saying that he would give him “the benefit of the doubt” until he had heard exactly what the billionaire businessman had said. "

One is put to wonder as to the Pope’s present sources of information; who they are and what they say to him.

One wonders too, whether he considers any present candidate a Christian, since all talk about securing the border.

But too, one has to wonder whether this is another of those “Pope quotes” that political ideologues like to spin in order to make it seem he supports their policies.

There is a wall around the Vatican, 40 feet high.

Perhaps other issues can be addressed as well.

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

I’ve read two different news sources on this, and they leave out what Pope Francis was responding to.

Bold is my emphasis:
“As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that. I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that.
What did the reporter say Trump said, as he presented the question to Pope Francis ?

It seems that the media is spinning this and having Trump respond to the spun account.

If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.
The Mexican government and its leadership has made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope, because they want to continue to rip off the United States, both on trade and at the border, and they understand I am totally wise to them. The Pope only heard one side of the story - he didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States. He doesn’t see how Mexican leadership is outsmarting President Obama and our leadership in every aspect of negotiation.
For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President. No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.
  • Donald J. Trump
My comments: First, the Pope’s statement on Trump’s Christian identity was crafted with a big “if” (paraphrased as “if he said what I’ve heard what he said”), and with a “gift” of the benefit of the doubt. Second, I believe that Trump in correct in his assertion that the Pope is hearing only one side of the story – that of the Mexican government.

The following is a statement of my own opinion: Trump claims to be a Christian, but I believe that he is writing checks with his mouth that his actions can’t cash, and this has nothing at all to do with the whole “wall-building” controversy.

Is the wall around the Vatican used to keep pilgrims out? It appears to me that the Pope is not talking about the mere existence of walls but about the “othering” of people beyond the wall.

If a person confesses Jesus as lord, he is considered a Christian. What sins has trump committed, in your eyes, that he can’t even be considered a Christian? We can call nancy Pelosi, a staunch pro-abortionist, a catholic but trump, no way he is a real Christian. The only thing yu could point to is his divorces but now he has a good family and is on good terms with his exwives. Is it because he’s just too rich, and he’s too loud? By your standard, there will not be many Christians left.

Well, Trump advocates torture, which is against Catholic teaching.

I’m sure the wall is simply about protecting the Vatican; as it is 2000 years old, it has had to withstand invasions as far as my knowledge of history is.

What does that even mean? What does it mean to not “other” people? Does it mean we can’t lock our doors, have to welcome all strangers into our houses and country, not worry about drugs and crime, not make a peep when people break our laws? Trump wants immigrants but legal ones. What’s so wRong with that?

“By their fruits you shall know them.” Donald Trump, from all appearances, doesn’t acknowledge anyone as lord, except for Donald Trump.

Supporting a wall at a country’s border is contrary to the Christian faith? Is this an infallible statement?

So now what defines trump is that he doesn’t mind using extreme measures in order to protect innocent lives? So what determines a persons soul has come down to this?

Has he called himself lord? Does he pray to himself? Does he demand you bow down to him and worship him?

Just to be clear, publicly contradicting or rejecting Church teaching makes one not a Christian? Is that the standard we will use?

Some would consider millions of illegal immigrants streaming over the border an invasion. Especially as it is overwhelming our government welfare programs.

Apparently if you have those concerns you are placing your immortal soul in jeopardy.

I would not be concerned about this. I know how careful we must be in what we say but I will say, I wonder if the “other” people appears to mean those living under the Communist Dictatorship in Cuba as well!
