Pelosi and Biden are doing what so many other Catholics are also doing. They represent the cultural Catholics, or the fallen away Catholics, or those that we call cafeteria Catholics. Unfortunately they feel very justified. We need to pray.

Local (SF Bay Area, California) radio news is doing their usually spin on the audience and stressing that the Catholic church is intolerant of practicing gays, lesbians etc… (practicing meaning lifestyle). As if that makes it okay for lawmakers to be pro-abortion? The commentator even mentioned that young Nancy had wanted to be a priest until her mother had to break the bad news that she couldn’t be.

I have the feeling that the pope might have taken the opportunity to tell her a thing or two in the private audience, but I suppose we will never know. Nancy claims that they had a nice time looking at her pictures and chatting about how wonderful it was that the Vatican is going green.

Join me in praying. After all she’s my elected :sad_bye: representative.

I strongly believe the Pope should publically excommunicate any public figure who supports and promotes the killing of the unborn. As another poster in a different thread on this forum wrote: “vitandus.”

The Vatican Press Release:
A JUST SYSTEM OF LAWS CAPABLE OF PROTECTING HUMAN LIFE

VATICAN CITY, 18 FEB 2009 (VIS) - The Holy See Press Office released the following communique at midday today:

"Following the general audience the Holy Father briefly greeted Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage.

“His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in co-operation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development”.
OP/HUMAN LIFE/PELOSI VIS 090218 (140)
Significantly phrased as the Pope made clear that all Catholic legislators are so bound to protect life. Pelosi may try to squirm and spin, but it is clear she cannot show her position as being compatible with being Catholic.

Perhaps this meeting can be the Pope’s way of giving a fair warning.

Then I pray that he whoops her good and says “I warned you…”

.

Catholics need this kind of clarity and leadership. Those Catholics who hold public office should listen. We should all listen.

Peace,
Ed

I would’ve given her a warning and a deadline. “Recant your public, pro-life stance by this date (plug in a date here) OR you will be formally excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Madam, you are out of bounds. If you don’t realize this enough to repent, then I’ll make it crystal clear to you and everyone in the world!” That would send a clear message to everyone on where the Church stands and what is expected of public figures who claim to be Catholic.

I think you mean pro-choice.

Yeah. And then see how many catholic congresspeople are elected.

I understand your frustration, but I don’t think it works that way.

“It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today,” Pelosi said in a statement released hours after the meeting. “In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church’s leadership in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming, as well as the Holy Father’s dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel. I was proud to show his Holiness a photograph of my family’s papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren.”
…The speaker does not share that belief, and even got into a verbal slugfest with American bishops last August after her statements on a news program about the Church’s view of when life begins.
“I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And St. Augustine said at three months, we don’t know. The point is, is that it shouldn’t have an impact on the woman’s right to choose,” she said at the time on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
She then added that the Church has only held the view for 50 years or so that life begins at conception. The remarks earned her widespread corrections by Catholic clerics

I suspect she should have said ignorant rather than ardent…and ardent isn’t a word I would use to describe my own feelings…I would say devout…It’s good she didn’t describe herself as devout, I don’t think she is…

I’m so happy that the Holy Father met with her and told her like it is, and with no camera’s so she won’t have a photo op of it!!!

On a side note, I saw a t-shirt that said, “If Nancy Pelosi is an ardent Catholic, I’m the Easter Bunny!”

Yeah. And then see how many catholic congresspeople are elected.
If you mean no more “pro-choice” elected, then good.

If you mean a resurgence of nativism in America, well we need to follow the Church over the polls.

Yeah. And then see how many catholic congresspeople are elected.
I’m sorry, how many do you think are in congress now. By my count not one in the Democratic Party. People can say they are cats or dogs and that does not make them one even if they meow or bark and eat from bowls on the floor.

I think there are some institutions where these kind of people hang out. Congress is only one of them.🤷

The sad thing is her bishop and other bishop’s that have pro-abortion office holders have not done what I think Jesus would do and that is throw the Pharisees out the door.

Pelosi is not new to the scandal she is perpetuating and her bishop is just as culpable.

GOD will judge them and may GOD have mercy on their souls.

I am very glad the Holy Father didn’t allow photos of himself and Ms. Pelosi; he can’t be used by her as she continues running around proclaiming her Catholic faith at the same time she is the most biggest abortion supporter in the Senate. I agree with the poster who said she and Biden should be publicly excommunicated; you can throw Kennedy, Durbin, Cuomo, and the rest of that crew in with them.
