Pope tells Pelosi Catholics must defend life

An interesting observation, and one I overlooked. There was indeed a fear that this would be used as a photo op, and indeed this was shut down.
 
The only way this can get any better [and it won’t happen] is if upon her return, the Bishop of D.C. Donald Wurel pays Pelosi a call; and in good christian love tells her " you’ve been told by Christ’s vicar and the head of our faith to cease your pro choice stance. It is not compatible with the teachings of our faith. Do not present yourself for communion until you do. Please advise Biden, Kennedy et al of the same.:signofcross:
 
She met with her own bishop before she met the Pope. There were other catholic pro-abortion congressmen with her when she met the Pope.

Why does she need a picture with the Pope when she has already met him in April 2008 and did a photo-opt?
Michael Voris of Real Catholic TV broke the news today that the promised meeting took place Sunday, February 8 in a third-party home in San Francisco. Voris reports tha**t Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly **said that the Speaker described the meeting as “cordial and pleasant … a fair exchange and good.”

Archbishop Niederauer joined a chorus of bishops condemning the comments, issuing a lengthy statement to correct Pelosi’s error and invite her to “a conversation with me about these matters.” Pelosi immediately responded, saying she would “welcome the opportunity … to go beyond our earlier most cordial exchange about immigration and needs of the poor to Church teaching on other significant matters.”

Niederauer had met the Speaker in 2007 but did not touch upon the abortion issue because, Niederauer said, the issue of immigration was “very much the hot-button topic of the time.”

This would be an act of charity. Kennedy is very ill and may not have long to live. Biden and Pelosi travel alot on planes and in limos. So God could call them home at any time.
 
I wish Bishop Wurel would do this, but from what I understand, he has said that he would not discipline nor deny her the Eucharist, nor would he do that with other pro-abortion Catholic politicians. Very sad that a bishop won’t stand up to this evil.

As if that makes it okay for lawmakers to be pro-abortion? The commentator even mentioned that young Nancy had wanted to be a priest until her mother had to break the bad news that she couldn’t be.

I have the feeling that the pope might have taken the opportunity to tell her a thing or two in the private audience, but I suppose we will never know. Nancy claims that they had a nice time looking at her pictures and chatting about how wonderful it was that the Vatican is going green.

Join me in praying. After all she’s my elected :sad_bye: representative.

I will definitely join you in praying for you, your district and your state. I used to live in Hercules and know there are many good conservative people in CA.

I just feel bad that we all seem to be at the mercy of our legislators and their socialist agendas.

Hi Kate!

I live in Archbishop Wuerel’s former diocese, and go the the church he was raised in. It is very lliberal. I’m in RCIA here, and I cannot even get anyone to talk about original sin, it is so “offensive to them.” It just does not “feel” right to them. My teachers have never read the Bible or the Catechism. It is very frustrating. I try to talk intelligently about what I have read in the Scriptures, and the writings of our Fathers, but no one has a clue what I am talking about. It is like we are speaking in two different laguages.

As I recall, his statement was that it was the bishop of her home diocese who had the authority in the matter, and he made it after the scandal of her receiving Eucharist at a Papal Mass.

Unfortunate statement, as the action happened on his watch in his diocese. Certainly the mindset of “passing the buck” needs to stop.
 
I believe you are right about his statement about her home diocese. It is indeed passing the buck; she spends much of her time in Wurel’s diocese living in Washington doesn’t she? So why can’t he do anything about this? I believe he doesn’t want to. And until this habit of passing the buck and saying “it isn’t my problem” stops, the average Catholic (and non-Catholic, I can tell you from lots of experience) looks at the behavior of these politicians and the inaction of the bishops and says, “Hey, the Church doesn’t take this seriously, it must not be important.” This is where folks get the idea that they can make it up and choose to follow just those parts of Church teaching they like.

And I feel for you marcylee, how frustrating this situation must be! It is very difficult to deal with those who go just on what “feels right” to themselves. We’ll keep you in our prayers!

It wouldn’t matter to me. If the so called Catholic congresspeople aren’t upholding the laws of God, then what good does it do to have them saying that they are Catholic. In actuality, it is destructive to our faith because it seems contradictory.

So I would much prefer non Catholic congresspeople than so called Catholic congresspeople who are not truly Catholic, thereby doing damage to the Church.

Thank you for your post!! We rarely hear of Original Sin…and its reality…from our clergy…and not for a very long time! Human nature is inclined to evil…this, along with myriad Truths have become become totally diluted…or non-existent! It is the Sacrament of Baptism, that removes this stain!!! the “only” human being who was conceived without original sin…is The Blessed Mother!!! I saw on a Fox news spot where a reporter asked Pelosi why she did not mention anything about the pope’s statements to her on abortion. Her reply was something to the effect that** “we expressed our views to one another on the subject”.** My thought was **HER VIEWS. SHE TOLD THE POPE HER VIEWS. ** This has got to be one stupid woman. It is certain that she does not know her faith, and she tells the pope her views. I don’t think that went over too well. I expect more will come from this. We shall wait and see.

I believe Pelose is more accuratly, described as a narcissistic, grandiose sociopath or just "EVIL!’ Yes, it will be interesting to wait and watch the Pope use the “Bully Pulpit!” You have it Holy Father…please begin to use it for the “Greatest Evil”…a b o t i o n!!! I remember my seminary days in New Orleans at Notre Dame Seminary in the early 1960’s. There was the great issue of segregation raging at that time. I remember when Archbishop Rommel excommunicated three big politicians in the New Orleans area. That took a great amount of intestinal fortitude on his part. but you know — it worked.

As you already know, there have been many changes in the past 40 years! Introduction of “Secular Humanism!!!” And, many “Judas Goats!” within! Way too many of my Catholic friends who faithfully attend the “Novus Ordo” have become, either, casually- pro-choice…OR see nothing wrong with abortion!!! Something is very wrong @ the top, here! Everything is kind of “upside down and backwards!!!” In the WORDS of Jesus Christ: “I KNEW YOU BEFORE YOU WERE IN YOUR MOTHER’S WOMB!!!”…may just have a much deeper meaning! And: “IF YOU ARE OF THIS WORLD, YOU ARE NOT WITH ME” I contemplate both of these, often! I am currently, invoking and saying Novena to Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha! It really saddens me that there are so many “luke warm” Catholics out there who use their power to promote agendas that are clearly not Catholic, let alone Christian in nature. May God save their souls. This bible verse is very pertinent I think:

Revelation 3: “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”

A person who uses Christianity, or Catholicism to push their own agenda in a position of power is seen as lukewarm in God’s eyes. And they will be spat out…

Longtime lurker, but I felt the need to post, 'cause I’ve got a good story.

My mom knows a college professor. Once, this teacher asked her class who in history they’d most like to meet. A girl in the back rose her hand and said, “Jesus.” The teacher said, “Oh, that’s a very normal answer. What would you talk about with Jesus?” The girl answered, “I would respectfully listen to his opinions, and then I would expect him to listen to mine.”

Kids these days…

Those who know me in real life have heard enough of my rants about the failure of the bishops to enforce the basics of canon law, prevent scandal, and impose these blasted excommunications as is their duty, so I’ll spare the Internet another. I do think it is solely attributable to cowardice disguising itself to the bishops as “prudence”… and, when I’m not outraged about it, it’s really quite sad. We are indeed a hospital for sinners.
