NEUMAYR: Pope Benedict’s critics don’t care about kids
By George Neumayr
Since when have secularists and dissenting Catholics been experts on the protection of children? These self-appointed reformers of the Catholic Church preside over a debased culture that abuses, aborts and corrupts children. That a reckless and depraved liberal elite would set itself up as moral tutor to Pope Benedict XVI is beyond satire.

Mr Neumayr’s wonderful!

Mr Neumayr’s wonderful!
Not wonderful - pathetic. What a sad attempt to shift attention from the Catholic Church. Neither the Catholic Church nor the Holy Father should be trying to play the victim here. Not when children have been abused by priests for years - some even in the confessional. Those are the ONLY victims in all of this.

And I don’t see anyone trying to reform the Church; it’s ridiculous for this author to try and make this about anything except perverted pedophiles and the priests covering for them.

umm, you haven’t done much in church for a while have you? As a college student I taught CCD and had to go through a background check as well as make a written statement that had to be signed by a notary. Not only that but we all had to go through an extensive program on keeping children safe.
Seminarians now go through extensive evaluations and preparations in order to get through their program.

So you see the reform has already taken place (as least in the US), but maybe you missed it. 🤷

Pope Benedict has been relentless on trying to reform the Church, not only has he been an advocate for the children, and actually dealing with abusers, but he has been a wonderful leader in the revamping of the liturgy the way it should be, and respect for the Eucharist.

As horrible and vile as the pedophile priests are, and the clergy who covered them up, the whole story has not been told…WOW!!! REAL SHOCKER HUH? That our wonderful illustrious MEDIA has left out a few more details!! Like for instance all the people who jumped on the bandwagon to sue the Church when there was no guilt, only to get in on the “CASH COW”!!! And Oh yeah, with this latest scandal, how our Pope was NOT THE ONE TO REASSIGN THIS PRIEST…HE WAS LONG GONE!!!
Yes, he sent him for rehabilitation…how many years ago? In the era that we thought rehabilitating these people actually worked. He wasn’t there to reassign him at all. His successor did.

When oh When! Are people going to wake up and be more discriminating on everything the MEDIA reports as gospel truth??? When oh When! Are people going to actually “get it” that the media has a vile disdain for Christians and especially Catholic Christians???

Agree 100%.

When I taught CCD, background checks weren’t required. But I’m perfectly aware of the reforms that have taken place with respect to lay people. However, parishoners teaching CCD, etc., haven’t really been the problem, now have they.

The question is what is the Church doing now to ensure full disclosure of past abuse AND what is the Church going to do in the future if priests molest and abuse children?

Saying that the Pope’s critics don’t care about kids is the same as saying that the Holy Father doesn’t care about kids; both statements are wrong.

This is not a problem of the MEDIA, it’s a problem of our Church. And as long as Catholics continue to try and shift the blame away from pedophile priests and those who covered for them, I believe that we’ll be having this same discussion every few years.

Jesus Christ is Risen Today! Alleluia!!!

Thekla, you wrote; “And I don’t see anyone trying to reform the Church;”???You must not be looking!

No Catholic is justifying any type of abuse! The vast majority of good priests & practicing Catholics abhor any abuse & never condoned this behavior.

The outrage from Catholics is over the hypocrisy & downright lies that the vast majority of these biased media “reporters” spin as fact regarding the abuses in the Catholic Church, many 20-30 years old, while ignoring current sexual abuse crisis in our public schools & society in general that is promoted or just plain ignored by these same "reporters."

With all due respect, I see just the opposite. The Catholic Church has put every precaution in place after the initial scandal. The Priests in my own Catholic School are not allowed to even pat a child on the head for fear of repercussion. They have been instructed (as has our entire Archdiocese) not to come a foots length to any child, not to speak of not being alone with a child ever!!! The MEDIA (LAME STREAM) has either twisted or left out pertinent facts altogether if to do so would damage the Church.

Yes, we will be having this discussion every few years if the Media can twist the facts around or eliminate them in order to incriminate the Church in any way possible. And people that have a bone to pick with the Church will jump right on the bandwagon. I would challenge anyone to produce even one hard solid fact that The Holy Father is guilty of anything.

It is a horror of what has happened to innocent children under this scandal. There is no excuse as many of today’s religious and lay faithful are to hold responsibility for their own actions, including myself.

The secular media does have a constittutional right to present their information. However any rights are GOD GIVEN as this country was started under Christian values. When under Natural Moral Law rights are granted to humanity, there are also great responsibilities to the secular as well as Christian media for the good, the protection, safety, welfare of the people.

In the past, the secular media was pretty careful what they presented. Today’s secular media is very reckless, rude, inconsiderate. Their agenda today is to “Tickle Ears” to make money and power. They will use partial truths to make the public believe as full truths.

Secular Media today loves to smear organized religion. We see certain Catholic celebrities and certain Catholic politicians come forward to secular media with sinful, wordly, pagan attitudes to smear the Catholic Church to show face, make money, beconing more worldly empowered. Jesus spoke of “self styled Jews”. He never exempted Christians as we see many “self styled Christians” who love to bash Christianity. They will see Judgement Day just like the rest of us.

Hell is real and there will be many Catholic Cristians and other Christians heading there on thier own free will if they want to mock and scoff Jesus Christ and his followers.

The Church has to walk a fine line between presenting the Truth of what happened and looking like they are making excuses. They were right to point out the numerous factual errors, disotrtions and untruths in the Times articles. They were right to react to the over the top rhetoric of Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich who’s concern is not, IMO, children, but the fact the Church does not embrace Liberal morality and/or the Democrat Platform

It is not productive, IMO, to point out abuse is more prevalent in other denominations and institutions. Christ’s Church should be held to a higher standard. We have given our enemies a cudgel with which to beat us. All we can do is to continue on the path John Paul the Great and Pope Benedcit put us on. Prayer, repentence and policies to assure this NEVER happens again.

First let me state that these individuals that commit this abuse should be jailed and they should be the ones that bear the responsibility for their actions. Second those that hide such acts should be held accountable. Also, many that are armchair quarterbacks on this site are using this to push a progressive agenda and that is reprehensible. Correct the abuse but do not change the Church.

while ignoring current sexual abuse crisis in our public schools…
I disagree with you. In my state, for example, I am a mandated reporter. That means that if I suspect that a child is being abused or neglected I am required, by law, to report it to the authorities.

You have not seen cases of teachers sexually abusing 10, 50, 100, 200 children. And when it does occur, you certainly don’t see their administrators shielding them from the law or shuffling them to other schools where they continue to abuse children.

Don’t try and lump teachers in with these perverted pedophiles who were covered for time and time again.

So…you agree that it is wrong to label all priests “probable child molesters”?

Excellent post Esteese Bob:thumbsup:

It would be good to remember, Jesus picked Judas as an apostle, then Satan entered him and he betrayed our Lord. Satan is powerful and will use any means he can to belittle Jesus and His Church none of us are immune to his lies.

God Bless

The Media doesn’t have to “twist” or “eliminate” ANYTHING, all it has to do is reveal what the church has been trying to cover up. If the Vatican wasn’t concealing things, they wouldn’t be coming out every few years.

And there is more on the way, bet on it.

But according to Charol Shakeshaft, the researcher of a little-remembered 2004 study prepared for the U.S. Department of Education, “the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests.”
Outside of the Church, Shakeshaft is not alone in highlighting the largely unaddressed, and unpublicized problem of child sex abuse in schools. Sherryll Kraizer, executive director of the Denver-based Safe Child Program, told the Colorado Gazette in 2008 that school employees commonly ignore laws meant to prevent the sexual abuse of children.
“I see it regularly,” Kraizer said. “There are laws against failing to report, but the law is almost never enforced. Almost never.”
“What typically happens is you’ll have a teacher who’s spending a little too much time in a room with one child with the door shut,” Kraizer explained. “Another teacher sees it and reports it to the principal. The principal calls the suspected teacher in and says ‘Don’t do that,’ instead of contacting child protective services.”
“Before you know it, the teacher is driving the student home. A whole series of events will unfold, known to other teachers and the principal, and nobody contacts child services before it’s out of control. You see this documented in records after it eventually ends up in court.”

“Students in America’s schools are groped. They’re raped. They’re pursued, seduced and think they’re in love,” stated an Associated Press report on a yearlong study the agency concluded in 2007. The series reported that public school administrators routinely transfer abusive teachers from one school district to the next.
“The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests,” wrote Carol Shakeshaft, author of a U.S. Department of Education study ordered by Congress in 2002.
Sherryll Kraizer, executive director of the Denver-based Safe Child Program, told The Gazette’s editorial department that it’s commonplace for public school principals and teachers to neglect laws that require them to report sexual abuse.
“I see it regularly,” said Kraizer, a professional witness for prosecutors and defense lawyers in childhood sexual abuse cases. “There are laws against failing to report, but the law is almost never enforced. Almost never.”
The media are to be applauded for relentlessly exposing the scandal in the church, and even the pope isn’t above honest and thorough scrutiny of his past service.
But the much larger crisis remains in our public schools today, where children are raped and groped every day in the United States. The media and others must maintain their watchful eye on the Catholic Church and other religious institutions. But it’s no less tragic when a child gets abused at school.
Oh, please. The public schools are 100 times worse than the catholic church, and haven’t even begun to address their problems. You only see what you want to see. Teachers are more likely to be abusive than priests, and I’d be far more worried about a teacher or school official abusing children than any priest.

You say so, but I don’t see it. I heard on the radio about a teacher who was accused of abuse with one pupil and she is now up for 18 years in prison. But I read about a priest who was going around abusing 200 deaf boys since 1950, and he got no punishment.
