Erhm…
Well, while your “we” suggests you identify yourself as ‘catholic’, your statement of treating him like ‘some sort of god’ suggests to me that your belief is not actually catholic.
The Pope is not God, nor is he “some sort of” god according to Catholic teaching. Therefore you cannot say “we” as practical (that is, practicing and informed) Catholics if you treat or believe that the pope is the or a God/god.
IF YOU treat him as some sort of god, then you need to be aware that your belief is heretical and non-Catholic, and should seek out your priest for clarifying instruction. Unless, of course, you are part of some non-catholic religion who also uses the term ‘pope’ for one of its leaders… in which case you need to clarify the ‘we’ part of your statement.
The station of pope is that of the ‘head’ bishop, just as Peter is seen as the ‘head’ Apostle, and thus it is why the verse given before is used to support the station of the singular papal seat. Jesus’ singling out Peter from among the disciples is carried forward in the role of the pope; just as the ‘station’ of the disciples is carried forward in the role of the Bishops.
In a particular sense, you are correct, God is our ‘only’ Father; but is that actually the case? I was not born of a Virgin, so I, at least, cannot ABSOLUTELY say that God is my Only Father. Therefore, in an absolute sense, I have at least two fathers; God and my ‘bio-dad’. Now, when I expand my family community to include my ‘family of the faith’, or religious community, it seems only natural that the leader of that family, who is the local priest, would, in a sense, be my father there. So now, I have three Fathers; yet God is clearly the most significant and eternal of these, and by His nature He is the only one that is worshiped. My calling Him ‘father’ is not a strict application of definition (in which case Maker would be more appropriate), but a term of endearment He has asked us to use to remind US of the closeness He seeks with us. Only Jesus could say, in all possible senses, that “God is my only Father”.
