Reading that makes me want to sent that parish and priest a donation.

Shouting over the consecration… 😯

My word! 😲 Prayers for this parish and this priest. Something has gone badly wrong in that parish.

May God give this pastor and archbishop the strength, prudence, and charity to set things right. 🙏

That video is appalling! Lord have mercy on us and on the whole world. 🙁

Portland = Seattle. Progressive to the max and the Liturgy be, well, condemned.

Comedisn Flip Wilson’s “Church of What’s Happening Now” all over again.

This little quote from the newspaper report is revealing:

“I don’t know anyone that would come to a parish and go to the vestment closet and take all the vestments, still on hangers, and throw them into a trailer without somebody of authority having instructed them to do so,” Alter told The Oregonian.

“Somebody of authority” – he seems to be saying that the parishioners have “authority” over the pastor, and that the pastor is an uppity Nigerian who refuses to recognize his inferior status.

I guess the damage a priest can do to a parish can be quite
That’s what I’m saying. Whoever the former priest is should be disciplined or corrected for such liturgical abuse.

Note to future priests: if you don’t like the old vestments at your new parish, just let them hang in the back of the closet, and don’t say anything about them.

Those parishioners have lost their way. We must pray for them.

I note the new priest is Nigerian. Somewhere there was an article about how some African dioceses have sent missionaries to Europe. Whoa, I said, are things in Europe really that bad? Africa has many issues of its own, but the Catholic Church there does appear to be more conservative than in Europe or the US.

May this missionary priest convert the heathens in his midst.

Oh my goodness that video was so cringey to watch and article shocking to read! I’m so sorry that the liturgy was interrupted and that they cornered the priest and participating congregation like that!

That was so wildly inappropriate, I have to believe that there’s something more malicious going on here than just anger over music correction and vestment tossing.

I’m very sorry it happened though! 🙏

Are these parishioners really from the same planet as me? I had to double-check that this wasn’t satire, because the part about singing a civil rights song to protest a black priest was just rich.

Next thing you know, they will write up their complaints and post them on the church door.

These vestments were rainbow vestments. They should have been burned.

I note there’s a thread in Catholic News that’s been going for a few days on this.

Parishioners disrupt mass to voice concerns Catholic News
I’m all for wanting to have a dialogue with the priest and feeling the need to air your grievances, but their whole approach and decision to disrupt the mass is uncalled for.

On top of that, he’s not only black, but an immigrant from Nigeria, and he’s getting blasted for taking down an “Immigrants and Refugees Welcome” sign.

It’s just appalling those parishioners would think to interrupt the Mass to make their point. It breaks my heart that they believe their desires and needs are more important than the desire of our Lord to love us.

This is why laity shouldn’t be allowed on the altar to begin with.

What a sad video to watch. The parishioners should have respect for the priest ‘Alter Christus’ and don’t use the church building as a place for a rally in the name of their own egos.

I’m perfectly good with the “immigrants and refugees welcome” sign — why did he take it down? — but as for everything else, I’m right on the page with him. May God bless him.
