Furthermore, the nature of a Eucharistic miracle is something that should cause a great deal of distress: The Lord has chosen to manifest Himself fleshly, not sacramentally. This usually happens when some vice, some weakness needs to be broken, often in the minister himself. I donât want to make an encyclopedic listing of Eucharistic miracles, but the themes of faithlessness (contrary to the virtue of religion) or resulting carelessness (again, contrary to the virtue of religion) come up over and over again. The miracle of Lanciano, for example, is connected to the priestâs doubts; Bolsena, also doubts; Sienese miracle of the levitating Host with the priest who stuck it in the pages of his breviary, carelessness; the other Sienese miracle of the Hosts that do not deteriorate, robbery; Santarem, adultery & witchcraft. Putting it bluntly, these Eucharistic miracles, wonderful as they are, are poignant examples of the Lordâs response to sacrilege.
