Amen Momofone. The first thing I thought as the storm rapidly started losing strength just before landfall was that our prayers were heard. Not to detract from the strength/danger of the storm that ultimately struck, but the expected scale of damage probability made a pretty significant drop after the storm weakened (graph on The Weather Channel). Shortly before landfall the sustained winds maxed out at 145 mph (Category 4), then they dropped to 140, and then right on the verge of making landfall it was as if someone had stuck a pin in a balloon and the storm quite rapidly dropped another 15-20 mph. The Weather Channel’s Meteorologist reporting looked somewhat surprised as he reported that the weakening was a blessing…they weren’t expecting it to weaken. I want to add that, of course, I cannot speak for the those who endured the brunt of the storm, but the reports I have seen seem to reflect some relief among those affected in the realization that it could have been worse. I haven’t heard what conditions caused the weakening that close to shore to begin with (cold water perhaps?), but I know God was with them.

We may want to begin praying regarding Hurricane Emily. Early reports have it heading to the Gulf of Mexico yet again. It is too early to project for the U.S., but those in Barbados, and the other Carribean Islands that are currently in the storm’s path need our prayers.

There Go I:

Probably it was the Divine Mercy chaplets that people were asked to and said that they would pray. The storm hit around 3:25pm, Eastern time.

Yes, I agree that the Chaplets being prayed at that hour were fruitful! Our God is so merciful…

My dear friends!

I’m alive! It was hairy, but we suffered 4 trees down and the loss of a roof turbine to flying debris.

There is a LOT of damage to trees and trailers and all over the place. I had a powerline hanging at chest height accross my driveway. The power only just was restored about 2 hours ago and I had to tell you guys that all your prayers were answered.

Our parish only suffered some facia damage but I don’t know about the beach mission church that was wrecked by Ivan.

Thank you all for all your prayers. I have no doubt that they are why we fared as well as we did.**

My wife’s place of employment which is waterfront also came through with minimal damage and she is at work right now.

Please pray especially for the family in Ft. Walton that was hurrying to evac and somehow backed over their 3 year old son and killed him. Very sad. Local TV

Glad to see that you are back on the Forums and doing well Church Militant 🙂

Church Militant

The Gulf Coast is my home but I live in Birmingham now. I am a veteran not only of hurricanes, but now of harbouring evacuees from the Coast. You are always welcome here if you need to seek refuge!

We had a house full during Ivan and during Dennis and we are keeping an eye on the weather …looks like there’s a high pressure system that will keep Emily out of the Gulf. For now, anyway!

Everybody … keep praying! Hurricane season is far from over!!

Amen Little Mary!

I too still have family up that way. Know where Our Lady of Sorrows parish is? 🙂
