Thanks for this. I am learning latin on my own very slowly in my free time, this is an awesome bookmark to help me along my way. Much appreciated.

I should warn you, however, that any threads on this site talking about the benefits of Latin quickly get overwhelmed by “tolerant progressives” angrily shouting that Latin is useless and backwards
Holy hyperbolic strawman, Batman! 😮

Dude, that was like 6 weeks ago, and it was just a comment about how things usually go. Relax yourself.

It’s the internet. If we’re not aggrieved at all times, we don’t feel alive.

Pope Pius XI, Officiorum Omnium, 1922

“For the Church, since it contains all nations in its embrace, since it is going to endure until the consummation of the ages, and since it utterly excludes the common people from its governance, requires by its own nature a universal language, unchangeable, not that of the common people.

I would not make Latin mandatory. I would leave it as it is at many schools now, an option.
Pope St John Paul II Allocutio Libenter vos salutamus , 1978

“We address especially the young people: In an epoch when in some areas, as you know, the Latin language and the human values are less appreciated, you must joyfully accept the patrimony of the language which the Church holds in high esteem and must, with energy, make it fruitful. The well-known words of Cicero, “ It is not so much excellent to know Latin, as it is a shame not to know itin a certain sense are directed to you . … We exhort you all to lift up high the torch of Latin which is even today a bond of unity among peoples of all nations .”

Interesting new section with 5 different pages dedicated to the Rosary:

I find the why pray the Rosary particularly compelling and the mystery meditation pages are also quite helpful for using while praying the Rosary.

Latin is the mother tongue of the Romance languages: French, Italian, Spanish and possibly Portuguese. There’s other Romance languages too but those are the ones I know.

Yes, Portuguese. And Romanian.

But not English and not most Western languages.

Thank you! I knew there were more languages. 😃
Certainly countless languages, but important to note that of them all, the only one that has received the most special blessing by our holy Church is Latin. It effectively undoes the chaos from the tower of babel by uniting all under una voce.

Interesting fact recently stated by a priest in holy orders, for us Latin-rite, Roman Catholics, the Latin language effectively encompasses 99% of our liturgical patrimony.

Agreed.

I once heard a joke that English is a language that beats people up in dark alleys, then rifles through their pockets for spare bits of grammar and vocabulary.
