Praying Rosary During Mass?

Funny. In 1965 an official Roman Curia office stated that the Canon would not be in the vernacular.

That changed in 1967.

But fine…let’s say the pope suddenly declared the Roman Canon was no longer acceptable for use at the Novus Ordo.

That was discussed in 1967 as well.

Would you obey?

When did we move to discussing the Canon?

But if you’re seriously putting the possibility of jumping jacks up there with it, I humbly suggest you reconsider.

The removal of the Roman Canon would not be wise or appropriate given its history and tradition and close association with the Latin liturgy. But what would be there to prevent a Pope from doing so and why should one not obey if given a sensible replacement (i.e. no jumping jacks) ?

Who said that TLM is not suitable for participation of the congregation? Is it because it is in Latin?

Well even in NO there are some instances that i cannot also participate verbally. If i will attend a Chinese NO then definitely i cannot participate verbally but i can always participate spiritually. So the is still a participation of congragation.

I think what must be remembered is that which of the two prayer is most important? The Rosary or the Holy Mass? Is the Word, and the Eucharist more important than Rosary or not? Rosary can be prayed anytime, anywhere, and anybody. The Holy Mass can only be celebrated with an ordained minister.

I think for me, participating in the Holy Mass is more than twice than praying rosary. In Rosary we meditate the life of Christ, but in Holy Mass we worship GOD and we are one with the church in offering sacrifice to the Father and in the mass that we recieve the Body and blood of Christ.

We have here one Pope who allegedly as a private practice prayed the Rosary during Mass - even this much is totally unsubstantiated hearsay - versus another who clearly and openly and in his capacity as teacher of the faithful said that to do so is highly undesirable.

Perhaps this is simply a matter of there being differences between the TLM and the NO that make praying the Rosary fine and suitable in the first liturgy and much more of a hindrance to worship in the second. Since the second requires more obvious (for want of a better word, and no, robotic is NOT that word 😛 ) participation from the congregants.
Is it desirable to say the Rosary during Mass? Probably not, but I will continue to do so when I need to during the Homily so that I can fully participate in the remaining parts of the Mass. Mind you, this is not evey Sunday and its only if the priest starts saying something really extreme. For instance, in a couple of weeks I know things will be bad during the Homily. There are going to be handouts asking us to choose which kind of Mass we would prefer and we will be asked to write a letter to the Bishop. I only attend Mass at this particular church if there are no other options.
