Ah you are a Deacon, I bow and defer to you. God bless you for dedicating a part of your life to us - the body of Christ. God bless you. I am just an amateur Catholic trying to learn my faith and get the teachings of the Church clear in my head so I may be a true representative of the truth to others. You have done much more work than me in reviewing OP’s ‘trail’. You know when I got married, I had no idea what I marriage in the Church was about, I didn’t understand it at all. I don’t even remember pre-cana, not one thing from it. All I knew about marriage was that when you do it, you do it forever.Ok fair enough. The normal minister for the sacrament of Confirmation is the bishop. The ministers for Matirimony are the coulple themselves with the priest or deacon as a witness.
Based on what you say. The permanency of the sacrament is the same for both which is true. However the ramifications to not being fully aware of what is happening can be far more damaging in the sacrament of Matrimony…especially if innocent bystanders (children) are involved. As a deacon I would never willingly materially participate in such an important event if the couple expressed little interest in practicing their faith. Based on the OPs comments and after viewing her link to her personal blog, it would be fair to deduce that she is not interested in being more than a cultural Catholic.
So OP, I’m like the reformed smoker trying to pass on what I’ve learned through experience. Have to run, the baby needs her bottle.
