Who said I cared about “Trump rhetoric”? Regardless of what you or I think of Trump, or if you believe his rhetoric is crass, if his policies (I’m referring to legal immigration as a policy, and temporary restrictions based on national security) are in line with mine, that’s more important.

I just don’t understand why all the name-calling from so many people.

If you believe that people should get in line, and come over legally, then what are we debating? I agree. Legal immigration. Become a citizen, pay taxes. Assimilate.

Do you disagree?

You asked if Trump’s mean words were the reason from my belief that his policies are cruel and anti life… so you brought that in to the discussion.
Is it trumps mean words?
Relative to his policies being in line… I care if it is in line with Catholic Christian laws and the gospel… I don’t believe they are… this isn’t meant to be a political discussion, but instead a religious one.

Fine. You disagree that they are in line with Catholic doctrine. That’s your right. But I think there have been many responses that have clearly articulated and provided evidence for why you are wrong.

Fair enough … you and I disagree.

I think there have been far more responses clearly articulating why I am right… References to Jesus’ words, references to the Bishops, the Catechism and the Pope. I’ll rest well knowing I’m supporting helping the asylum seekers.

And that probably does it for me for a while… when you get to the I’m right, you’re wrong part… It’s likely time for a break.

President Trump isn’t perfect. I don’t think we should fall into the error of seeing his opponents as being totally virtuous in this matter merely because he takes the other strong position.

I wonder whether Pope Francis reads CAF. He really should. I think he’d find it very interesting to learn just how far the views of ordinary Catholics apparently diverge from his own.
Who is this ordinary Catholic? There’s millions of Hispanic Catholics in the USA, and basically all hold Pope Francis view.

But it’s easier to stay ignorant and scream racism these days.

Always have to be upset about something
That’s a nice thought. Thanks Sooner.

Separating families is one rather brutal element of these polices in action.

The extensive delays… 8 months seems to common is a rather unnecessary element of these policies in action.

Ultimately, this is a humanitarian crisis which America is responding to with a no room at the in message. We have plenty enough sources to assist these people, it is an affront to Catholic morality to ignore that.

You seemingly joked about President Trump’s rhetoric, but that is actually real problem - vulgar, mean-spirited and often inaccurate statements by the leader of the most powerful nation on earth should not be tolerated… tough situation when the Pres says things that would get a child expelled from school. We can’t really allow our kids to listen to him speak because of that fact… pretty sad.
If they break a law, they are criminals. I am a citizen and if I break the law, I will be separated from my children. Why should it be different for non citizens? I don’t see anything that is anti life in this policy. It would be nice if once they determine a person isn’t a threat and that the kids they brought over actually belong to them, that they could be put back together.

The long waiting period is because of a lack of resources. So again, how much money do we put into vetting processes? Do you realize the number of people that are trying to be processed? It isn’t like standing in line at hte local DMV.

Can we then take in everyone? Do we need borders then anymore?
No… no one is even suggesting that. No need to take everyone, no need to have open borders.

My question back… Can we take in no one? Should we only take in those who have no need?
actually, some people do say we should take in everyone. ie no borders/open borders.

And we do take people in. maybe it isn’t the arbitrary number you have in mind but I am guessing that number we do take in was fine when Obama was president…

The folks who are soft on illegal immigration still lock their doors at night because they don’t practice what they preach.
I see. I did miss that. It is such a poor analogy I did not even see it. Perhaps not ever answering one door might be a little bit better, but not much.

For the record, I do not turn away those in need. I would say that no one can say another does not practice what they preach on such scant reasoning. If one is welcoming to the immigrants in one’s own community, then such a person does practice what they preach. Adding in such things like home security does nothing by muddy waters.
You let strangers into your property personally?

… people who are very prejudicial and cold-hearted toward immigrants…
Here it is, the “You people are evil” claim.
There are good solutions that are in line with Catholic teaching, if not with Trump rhetoric.
There are no church doctrines on which specific solutions should be implemented. The church is silent on building the wall. The church is silent on the number we should admit. The church is silent on who should be deported. These are all prudential choices each individual has the right to make for himself, and while there may be a moral value to why the choices are made there is no moral distinction on the different positions themselves.

I have no way to back this up, but I bet the most people being held in these “concentration camps” and “cages” would much rather be there than where they come from

No… no one is even suggesting that. No need to take everyone, no need to have open borders.
And yet you objected to all of those that did not qualify for asylum without knowing the facts.
You can’t know why, or even if the fit your own criteria…which reminds me.
What exactly is the criteria?

No. People aren’t stupid. And immigration officers either.
You live in a blessed bubble, safe, stable, and predictable and you know what? You just don’t realize what that means and argue and hit each other on the head and so much more that one wonders what you would do in real dire straits.
I said it.
You sound like spoilt brats sometimes, people. Be more grateful…

I am Hispanic. If by that one understands Spanish is my native tongue. Don’t eat tamales and can dance tango, and whatever we have in common and whatever gives us some different and similar identity.
Let us count our blessings…

Joseph, Mary and Jesus fled from genocide and, like ALL who flee from it, are welcomed to the U.S. As far as I can tell, few coming to America today fled genocide.
This does not make sense. Joseph, Mary and Jesus did not flee genocide. Genocide is the killing of a specific race or ethnic group because of being in that race or ethnic group. If you are thinking of the slaughter of the innocents to justify the claim of “genocide”, they were not killed because of their race. They were killed because one of them might have been the new King of the Jews that Herod feared.

Why would you make a long journey here with your family if you didnt want to stay for a while? That too crossing many other countries?
That you do not understand why anybody would not want to go back to their home country after things got better does not mean they don’t feel that way. You cannot assume the motives of others.
