Genocide is the killing of a specific race or ethnic group because of being in that race or ethnic group.
Technically, you’re probably correct. Herod’s orders to kill all baby boys was a systemic “genocide” of a particular segment of humanity. Perhaps there is a more fitting word.

actually, some people do say we should take in everyone. ie no borders/open borders.
The “open borders” crowd doesn’t use the exact words “open borders.”

But, they oppose any kind of immigration enforcement. They favor abolition of ICE, they favor “sanctuary cities” (or “states”) for illegal aliens, they approve of illegal aliens getting public benefits (such as in the debate when all the Democratic candidates raised their hands for health care for illegal aliens), and they don’t want to hear about the Americans killed by illegal aliens (Mollie Tibbetts, Sarah Root, Matthew Denice, etc.).

So, in effect, they’re for open borders.

You let strangers into your property personally?
In case I was too subtle, I believe it to be a stupid analogy and an irrelevant question.
If it is reasonable for a landowner to defend and safeguard their property from trespassers why is it not OK for a nation to do the same?

Refusing entry to refugees is not equivalent to defending your property from trespassers. It is very demeaning to them to conclude that is what they do - people who but for the grace of God, could be you.

I didn’t mention refugees.
I am talking about illegal immigrants. BIG difference.

And I don’t see a difference in an individual being allowed to protect their property vs a nation being able to protect their “property”

I’m not suggesting , not taking in anyone. What is bothersome is taking in people and then taxing people who work a whole lot more to pay for it. You have to pay the piper somewhere. Is that right?

I didn’t say that nobody would want to go back. But that if they undertook such a journey (paying many agents along the way), why would they want to go back if their entire family is here and the state is paying for everything? You don’t get to 12-13 million undocumented if a vast majority never went back.

The humanitarian problems have been heart breaking at the border for decades.
The Church has pro active presence there, along side other agencies to help the families.
All sides used to use reasonable approaches to also protect the border, find solutions in the homelands of those at the border to help curb the influx that reaches such high proportions. Everyone knows there are coyotes using families or children for illicit purposes such as drug dealing, human trafficking
and so forth.
The past speeches of those who claim one side is ‘heartless’ sound extremely very similar to those who continue to speak knowing the many faceted concerns at the border.
All sides have given reasonable amnesty, also.

The emotionally charged distorted rhetoric does not help the situation. Proactive support of those helping the families at the border, such as the Church, shows true concern.

Peace of Jesus Beloved Redeemer, which as we know far surpasses only human fallible understanding such as seeming lack of inner conflict, and over emotionalism.

Deep heartfelt prayerful well wishes from the depths of Grace in my being.

There is no fundamental difference between open borders and letting anyone what wants to, occupy your house and sleep in your bed. Some folks don’t like that analogy - but more IMHO because they don’t like their position being exposed for what it is, than anything else.

I don’t like it because there are a boat load of fundamental differences. Scale is a fundamental difference. Property ownership is a fundamental difference. Displacement of the person is a fundamental difference. Private versus public is a fundamental difference. Finally, Church doctrine is in the two matters is fundamentally different. The comparison is so absurd, I do not see the point arguing it.

No one likes for others to assume low motives about them, so the doing so violates the Golden Rule.

It is clear that the candidate-less, radical progressive (D) party must incessantly assail the president in order to make their Star Wars bar scene agglomeration of misfits appear somehow acceptable. Gotta putty over their Chola makeovers, steam clean them and make them choose a gender for the party.

I tell ya’ this current assemblage of foaming-at-the-mouth leftists make Michael Dukakis look absolutely stellar.

The peculiar thing is that I am an American Catholic myself, but the range of views I see on CAF does not at all reflect the range of views that I have heard in any of the parishes that I have belonged to. A few day ago, for example, somebody posted the patently false claim that, ‘The word “racism” was invented by Leon Trotsky in 1927 to instill a sense of guilt in Americans and further the Communist agenda.’ (This is plainly a lie, as the word ‘racism’ is attested in English in 1902 and is known to be derived from the earlier French word ‘racisme’.) This is a myth that is promoted by neo-Nazis/white nationalists. It is not an isolated incident on CAF. There are certainly some people with funny ideas on here.

My grandparents fled Communism, but they did not qualify for refugee status because they had already found refuge in Austria. They had to go through the regular immigration process, which required $10,000 in savings and sponsorship by family already in America. They worked 7 days a week for over a year to be able to come to America, and I will not denigrate them by saying that holding the current generation of immigrants to the same standards is anti-life.

What ever you pay for you get more of. If a refugee sees that they get food, lodging, health care, education and so on, well you’ll be getting more refugees. They’re not stupid.
I would like to know what changed AND WHY since I married a non-citizen. Even with marrying a US citizen he had to PROVE that he had a job here and would not be living off the American taxpayers, with a signed affidavit from his employer.

Maybe it’s liberal racism, assuming western Europeans are capable of getting a job and Mexicans aren’t? Why are some held to lower standards than others?

Simple math. The United States has a per capita GDP of about $70,000 with about 4% of the world’s population. If the US economy was to support the whole world, that would reduce per capita GDP to about $2800, levels at which people are hard-pressed to afford such things as indoor plumbing.
