Only a moron would not know the Catholic Church’s true position on homosexuality.
That’s not very charitable. and there are people on these message boards who don’t know the Church’s true position on homosexuality. And there are lots of people, even in the Church, who intentionally blur and distort the Church’s teaching on homosexuality to others.
Admonishment is not an effective method of attitude change (except maybe with our own children).
This is just NOT true. Admonishment may not work well with YOU. But it most certainly can be very effective towards many people.
True compassion, unconditional love and good example are the keys; we ought to not want to simply to have them change their homosexual behavior, but to win them over to Christianity through true repentance of all their sins.

LOVE! ❤️
True compassion and unconditionaly love don’t involve accepting or ignoring things that harm others. If I yell at you to “STOP!” because your about to walk into traffic, while you may be upset at my tone, I have shown you true compassion by warning you of danger.

The reason people know the Church’s position is because people make the position known. If every Catholic followed your advice, no one would know the Church’s position.

Christ himself admonished sinners.
And what do you suppose would be the outcome of our admonishing homosexuals? Would we be moving them in the direction of repentance of all their sins and having them embrace Christianity?

LOVE! ❤️

And what do you expect the effect to be by our admonishing gays for their sexual behavior? Be honest.

The term “admonish” has harsh connotations. But there are ways to admonish someone without sounding like a mad-man. We can admonish by appealing to reason, natural law, the Scriptures, the example of Christ, etc.

What the effect will be will vary from case to case. What is true for all, though, is that we did our best to carry out our Christian duty.

By admonishing I am talking about walking up to Sam and yelling insults at him for kissing his “boyfriend”. I am taking about openly condemning such behavior in every public forum it is pertinent in-like these forums. The “well we have to get used to it” attitude is acceding to the secular culture . what he did was public display of grievously sinful behavior. It should be condemned and there should be no penalties for those who do so.

Did you by chance mean to say “I am not talking about…” in your first sentence?

I’m not saying that the Church should be silent in condemning sins, but that we would be much more effective as a community of Christians to eye the goal of saving souls from all of their sins through repentance and conversions. Compassion, unconditional love and good examples are paramount in our mission as Christians.

Is remaining silent about public sin an act of compassion?

Is remaining silent about public sin an act of compassion?
Of course not. Again, the Church should always condemn sin, and be vocal about it, but that should be for the Church to do. Our job here on in this world is not so much to fight evil, but to bring more light in our darkened world. In other words, our goal as Christians is not to fight homosexuality, but to enlighten with the end goal of causing sinners to repent and convert to religion.

…so do you have to believe every single thing the catholic church believes? like if your Catholic and you believe in secular gay marriage is that wrong for having your own opinion?

The Church is Jesus Christ who is God so if you disagree with Him you are disagreeing with God for above.

ah I see so you have to believe everything the Catholic Church believes and not be your own person unless it tells you? seriously? you can’t have one view different?

lol that seems very culty…you mean to tell me that a Catholic has to agree with every single thing the Catholic Church says do not have one difference even if its just a little view like secular gay marriages? lol I’m a new convert to the Catholic Church but this seems very cultish…I hope this isn’t representative of the whole Catholic faith and is just a few extremists online.

all I know is I don’t see nothing wrong with secular gay marriage as long is it don’t involve christians (hence the term secular) and is outside of the church I see nothing wrong with it. now I know the Catholic Church has nothing to say about that.

The problem with that position is that secular marriage laws confer special rights and benefits that not everyone gets. So when you say “I’m okay with secular gay marriage”, you’re not really being neutral, you are helping promote gay marriages.

that’s your opinion.
