President Trump's pro-life proclamation

You want true boorishness, watch some of the celebrity anti-Trumpers at the Grammys or Oscars, or the Super Bowl half time show. Your definition of boorishness will be re-written.

It is possibly because they are foul-mouthed and boorish themselves. There is a substantial swath of the American population that prizes being coarse, plain-spoken, unvarnished, “in-your-face”, “macho”, and other adjectives I’m sure just aren’t coming to mind right now.

And it all depends on whose ox is being gored. There is another person in political life who is reputed to be prodigiously foul-mouthed, disrespectful to the military, given to bouts of ill temper, and able to excoriate those whose vision of reality doesn’t correspond to hers. Yet her followers think she hung the moon, because she shares their goals and aspirations for what they would like America to be.

President Trump has, shall we say, a unique personality, but unless someone can come up with a candidate who would do as much for the pro-life cause as he has, appointing conservative Supreme Court justices and federal judges, and speaking unequivocally for the rights of the unborn, and would be electable versus the Democratic nominee, and could win the Republican nomination, he’s the best we’ve got. Very often, you work with what you have, not what you would like to have.

Amen.
History is ripe with those who claim answers in social justice for the poor and marginalized, yet define others as expendable.
Jesus Beloved Anointed One, Son of God, One in Being with God, God and Humanity fused, King of kings, and Lord of lords - has perfect complete compassion, yesterday, today, and forever - said we will always have the poor with us. Of course, He Commanded to help the poor, but He also Commanded to help the poor by proclaiming The Kingdom of God. In Matthew 11, Jesus Christ said up until then, many tried to violently enter The Kingdom of God. There is nothing new under the sun.

So many use, common to humanity since we are all created in the image and likeness of God, social justice - gradually using propaganda such as the ‘I’m personally opposed to [child killing] by abortion…’ which flies in the face of Creator given non take away (inalienable) right to life, whereby liberty should never be used to kill human life. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, after he converted,
letting Grace change his heart & mind; admitted that he and others authored much of the propaganda. Many fall for these tactics which actually damage the psyches of those who do not have an informed conscience. And while we recommend more holistic addressing the heartbreaking problems of the poor & marginalized - helping foster better values for individuals and families; opponents foster forced education of youth, paying or participating in child killing by abortion against one’s own conscience, and going past bias in educational, media, arts & entertainment, political factions emotional charged rhetoric to limit free speech - but legally do so. This is happening in California, a lot, which is alarming - and other places.
_
Our Land and society teems with these violations against the Creeds and true liberty our Nation was founded upon. And many don’t realize the dire nature of this because it happened so gradually.
Ronald Reagan who used very similar economics to conservative John Kennedy; help foster the sacrifices of the 1980s, which bore fruit in the 1990s. He didn’t do away with programs to help the poor. His administration faced a lot of propaganda, for fostering family values, such as we don’t love single parents. Nothing new under the sun. I like one of his jokes, sometimes the most dangerous thing you can hear is ‘I’m from the government, I’m here to help you.’ And he once stated, it is only those who are born who say the unborn do not have the right to live.
Peace.
"Before he died, Dr. Bernard Nathanson – the Co-Founder of NARAL – told Terry Beatley why he converted to the pro-life cause and how he deceived America into accepting abortion. Now, Terry hopes to spread his message in her new book, “What If We’ve Been Wrong?”

This isn’t an either/or situation.
Very often, you work with what you have, not what you would like to have.
I think he was talking more about Trump supporters encouraging this behavior for no good reason as opposed to Trump changing.

I looked at a choice between:

– a possible boor and

–a woman who has a long list of scandals and so many friends, associates, acquaintances, and enemies ‘committing suicide’ and having other unfortunate and fatal events that it’s become a national joke (“I’m happy with my life and am NOT going to commit suicide!”); a woman reputed to go into rages, a woman involved in the uranium scandal, a woman whose ‘charity’ apparently is not going to charity, a woman who gave a huge middle finger to half this country calling us ‘a basketful of deplorables,’ a woman who supports abortion on demand for any reason…

Yeah, I chose the boorish behavior.

Why in the world would I pick ‘killing unborn children’ over ‘boorish?’

In fairness, he is literally fighting the devil. I don’t like name calling but do not mind that he fights back. If we need a boot to put the brakes on abortion, prevent the evils and tyranny of socialism, protect the American worker and fight the horrendous lying and corruption of the left, it is a cost I am willing to pay.

Yes! And much of it is censored by the networks for those who don’t have cable.

No open minds there. No willingness to listen to a dissenting opinion.

My daughter, the entertainment professional, is actually considering leaving the field because of the constant need to filter everything that she says or writes so she doesn’t get blacklisted. She’s not a conservative by any means, but she does have differing opinions on various issues and she doesn’t dare voice them to her fellow entertainment professionals or she might find doors and windows shutting in her face.

When freedom of speech is in danger, the country is in danger. Beware surface civility!

Oh, no, I agree. They acted very boorishly.

But two wrongs don’t make a right. A person ought to step up and be ‘the bigger man’ (so to speak) in such a situation.

Sure, and there are many signs that Trump is undoing his boorishness. Compare the Super Bowl commercials sponsored by the White House to the rest of the field from the “woke” corporations and various others.

On the other hand, the Democrats and the progressive left in general are doubling down on absolute boorishness – along with spiralling into policies which will be the decimation of the United States as a country.

Speaking as a Canadian, I stand by and cringe at where the progressive left is taking the US. Unfortunately, my country is further down the path of irrationality and coming apart at the seams.

Desperate times, as they say.

I’ve heard.

Doctors having their medical licences revoked after not performing so-called “gender reassignment surgeries”, and then having to leave Canada and go somewhere else to practise medicine?

How do you put up with a government that has gone stark raving mad? Don’t you ever worry about your own safety?
Are you suggesting that doctors ought to be forced to perform gender reassignment surgeries, despite having moral concerns?

You seem to be.

And now that Trudeau is looking at forcing news companies to be licensed by the government, yeah I am worried about everyone’s safety.

Of course I am. And I recall hearing a news story some time ago where a doctor who refused to perform them (or something else similarly objectionable) had their medical licences revoked, and they ended up leaving the country because they needed to be able to practise medicine.

We have a fundamental disagreement about morality here.

You are claiming otherwise reasonable and moral individuals ought to be forced by the government to do what they legitimately have moral qualms about.

I find that morally untenable, precisely because – arguing on the same libertarian principles that permitted gays and transgender individuals to have a voices to begin with – you are now claiming those who don’t agree with the progressive gender ideology should be forced to.

That is the same fundamentalism that caused gays and transgendered individuals to lose employment or housing decades ago, now applied in the opposite direction.

Wrong then, but right now that the opposite perspective is gaining ascendency?

Yeah, no.

Sounds totalitarian, rather than libertarian.

Huh?

No, I am claiming the opposite.

I misread your post.
Good to know.

Did you think that my post regarding how you manage to live in a country that has gone mad was sarcastic?

It wasn’t. That was a serious question.
Good to know that, too.

Fortunately, I live in a part of the country that isn’t so mad.

If I were, I would likely move.

My daughter did a medical internship in a more “liberal-left” part of Canada and couldn’t believe the difference in outlook among her patients.

In an election, you might have to make such a choice. The point that was made is that no one has to make such a choice except when in an election booth. All his supporters with a spine should be equally willing to rake him over the coals when he is wrong as those that do not support him. Likewise, all his detractors should be just as willing to laud him when he does something like this speech. This is the point Pope Francis was making when he said he did not know that any moral values were “negotiable.”

Since when is a doctor obligated to perform a discretionary procedure such as this? Do patients in Canada prescribe what their doctor / Surgeon is to do?

Trudeau government looking to force news outlets to get government licences

Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault said the Trudeau government is considering making news outlets in Canada require a government licence to operate.
This is horrible. Having to get a license to report news.

Just wondering, does Church teaching address freedom of the press?

I can’t say, I am not licensed to report on that in Canada. 🥴

Apparently, the Liberals are walking back that strategy for controlling the press after a huge backlash.

Some in the media, though, are still concerned about other options on the table for the Liberals, given that they seriously proposed that Orwellian step…

There is a theme throughout this thread that Trump is so terrible no one should vote for him. In part because he’s ‘boorish.’ My point is, regardless of who exactly said what, that is the theme and it misses the point that the choice was not ‘boorish’ or ‘Mother Teresa’. It was ‘boorish’ or ‘most corrupt unethical woman in the history of America.’

What does this have to do with what I said? Of COURSE we have to make a choice in the election booth and that was EXACTLY my point. We had a choice between a possible boor and a woman with a trail of dead bodies floating behind her who also supports abortion.

There are people on this thread acting as if no one should have voted for President Trump because he is (supposedly) a ‘boor,’ as if there were no other factors involved in the choice to vote for him.
