Vetrans and seniors starving. Sounds great! 👍
Oh is that what happened before the Great Society and Social Security? Mind pointing me to the records of mass starvation before these programs?

It was a lie! Religious charity was a huge institution in this country before the government came by and monopolized it. Private charity has done the job before and did it without creating a class of dependents and subsidizing ill behaviors such as having children out of wedlock, drunkenness, etc.

The government is broke. Sorry.

I would also say that we should cut taxes, especially capital gains taxes so that people can provide for their own retirement.
Sorry it doesn’t work like that. You forced people to pay FICA and Medicare taxes for 40 years with the guarantee that they will receive a benefit and you gut the program without a refund check?

Can you say anarchy?

As Austen points out, you have people who have been paying into that program for decades, and who will be depending on that help. I wouldn’t question that reform is needed, but every single plan put out there is immediately trashed.

Reforming Social Security and Medicare will take a very long time.

Big Bird, on the other hand…

The program had already been gutted, there is no money there. They were robbed. Continuing to rob to make up to those who were robbed is unjust.

There is no time. Look at how large the unfunded liabilities have become.

My eyerolling is in response to your hyperbolic, histrionic comments.
  1. You admit that you’re being uncharitable.
  2. If my comments are being construed as “hyperbolic” and “histrionic”, then it’s because you are filling in the 93% of communication that is not conveyed through text alone in an incorrect way.
For instance, you were being ridiculous by making the vast majority of your post about a mere mention of Ron Paul’s name. And somehow my use of Microsoft Word to ascertain the number of words in your disproportionately long response somehow gets me called a conspiratorialist as if the number 293 had any significant meaning.

The number 293 means nothing to me, other than that it was the length of your Ron Paul rant… which was like 55% of your post, responding to like 1% of my post.

In other words, the has been another communication failure brought to you by the internet.

Pope Benedict XVI is right to condemn the internet as inferior. It will not only never replace normative human communication in real life, it will never even e equal to it. That’s scientifically proven of course. But, one gets the sense that the Holy Fazah, Pope Benedict, formed his opinion on the internet not on scientific studies, but just from wisdom alone… his and the Holy Spirit’s.

Once more, you admit to being uncharitable, and your only justification is based off a misinterpretation of what I’m saying. Histrionic? Hyperbolic? I guarantee you that you wouldn’t think that if this whole conversation took place face to face.

But then again, in real life people don’t wait hours or days to respond to each other in a conversation, and do research with the internet. Pope Benedict NEVER does anything that CAF ppl do, he doesn’t participate on online forums. And I hope we NEVER have a Pope that does. The Papacy should be above that forever: a system of communication in which misunderstanding another person is the norm, not the exception.

93%. 93%.

Did I deceive you? No, you let yourself be deceived! You are the one that deceived yourself that I was being hyperbolic or histrionic. You let yourself be deceived.

Good day, I’m not going to continue to engage a fool in his folly. :tiphat:

Heard the good point this morning, Sesame Street merchandise makes over $100 million a year… so do they need government aid??

Guy Benson, the political editor at Townhall.com, reports on that site today: “[T]here’s increasing evidence of a substantial Romney surge in swing states. In Indiana, a state Obama carried by the skin of his teeth last time in a major upset, Mitt Romney is running away and hiding. He leads the president by 16 points in a new poll. In North Carolina, the site of another narrow and unexpected Obama win in 2008, the Republican nominee appears to be pulling away. A new state-wide Gravis survey shows Romney ahead of Obama by nine points, 50-41. In Nevada, where Obama won by 12 points last cycle, the race is now dead even at 47. In addition to NBC’s virtually tied poll in Ohio, ARG has released a Buckeye State survey of their own: Romney 48, Obama 47 among likely voters. Romney edges in front despite a D+9 sample, two points more Democratic than the actual 2008 turnout. Nationally, Rasmussen’s daily battleground tracker has Romney pulling into the lead for the first time in weeks, 49-46. Within the poll, the GOP ticket leads by ten with swing state independents, and by six among those “certain” to vote. Even the SEIU/DailyKos national PPP survey puts Romney ahead by two points, 47-45.”

I’m seeing a glimmer of hope for the Romney campaign. 👍

Without government aid, how else would children get their daily dose of government propaganda? 😉

Oh really? Romney supports the Patriot Act. Are you fine with the government spying on you without a warrant? Romney is fine with the TSA. Are you fine with having your personal space violated by the government just to board a plane? Romney would have signed the NDAA. Are you find with the the government being able to detain whomever it wants and for whatever reason? Romney supports the Federal Reserve. Are you fine with your savings having lost 95% of their value since the Fed started? Romney thinks Paul Ryan’s plan to trim the debt is too extreme. Do you think that 30 years down the road is too soon to start paying down the government’s debt? Romney doesn’t want to just get rid of Obamacare, he wants to “repeal and replace” and notice he never says a bad word about his program (which has been a complete failure). Romney has no problem with our sanctions against Iran which are starving innocent people. Same goes with Cuba and other embargoes we have against other countries. Romney has said nothing bad about drone attacks which kill innocent people and are callously regarded as “collateral damage”.

So Romney is against Obama on abortion. Tell me, does that ONE THING ALONE make you ignore everything else and cast a vote for him? Let me tell you, even though he’s a superior option, he’s marginally superior, and so IMO, I cannot vote for the man.
I still hope that you will vote for Romney, and then hold his feet to the fire from Day One. I agree with you on some items, esp. TSA, but you should recognize that on a personal level, Mitt is an amazingly generous man who loves America, and believes in her. Obama is a socialist menace who will destroy us over the next four years. You think energy prices, government dictates and debt are horrendous NOW? Votes for Goode will help give Obama the opportunity to ruin us. Blessings, Rob 🙂

A vote for the man is interpreted as a vote for all of his positions, rightly or wrongly. With all of those negative views, I cannot in good conscience vote for the man.

Re: SS & Medicare
I don’t know how we could do it, but I suggest we get approval for everyone, say 50, and under to accept that they will never see anything and agree to let the program go. No more paid in and nothing received in the future. We all know the gov’t spent the money already anyway. For those older than that they receive a one time pay out of whatever is left of what they paid in. Know its complicated to figure, but say I’ve paid $10,000 in, and have already received $4,052. then I receive a check for the balance. This would be steep for the gov’t in the short term, but would end the whole system faster. As of right now it takes about double to run the program than it takes in and that is not including what it pays out

But yes, I’m willing to lose what I have put in. Not fair but no one said life is fair…oh wait, the dems do:rolleyes:
