Ok…so I was at the grocery store yesterday and this really pretty girl was there wearing a tube top and short shorts. After I saw her, an image of her nude kept popping into my head. I am married. Have I committed a mortal sin by having that image? I didn’t act out on it.

Sounds like it was not a sin, particularly if you willfully dismissed the image after it popped.

That reminds me of the young man going to confession. He struggles a bit and the priest offers to help him to review his conscience.

Priest: Do you entertain sexual thoughts?

Penitent: No, Father… They entertain me.

I am also married w/ 2 little kids. The first thing I try to do is thank God for creating women in His image. Pray for custody of your eyes, and ask Saint Joseph, most chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to help you. It’s hard, now that it is summer, to keep your eyes right.
 
if it causes you worry, mention it to your confessor next time you go to confession…

and no, we don’t want to know what he said…

i know this isn’t the subject of this thread and i’m not trying to start an argument, but…

i thought it was known that joseph had other children with another wife so he couldn’t have been chaste. he might not have ever been with mary, but he definitely had other children (see the ossuary of “james, son of joseph, brother of jesus”). the church’s stance on this is that james was the son of joseph and one of his other wives and that joseph, while married to mary, really was just taking her into his home to care for her. i just wanted to point that out, that he wasn’t chaste. also, Job 31:1 is a great verse to memorize and recite whenever placed in this “tube top” situation. it says, “I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a woman.”

Just a side note: Not that it has any bearing on the conversation the ossuary I think you are talking about was proven fake.
 
You seem to be confusing virginity with chastity.

Even if he had been married before he wouldn’t have been un-chaste to have had sexual relations with his first wife. IF on her death he took another wife that would still be chaste.

The ossuary was shown to be fake.

If this were the case I would have to camp out by the nearest confetional:banghead:
 
When in doubt, ask your spiritual director or confessor…I do know that whenever unchaste thoughts enter my mind, I know they were not put there by God…so what’s the alternative. Use the confessional frequently, and also receive the Holy Eucharist for the grace to get you through those moments.

There is a great deal of room here for speculation (theological and other). None of it is dogmatic. None of it is binding.

Just bear in mind that you cannot contradict any teaching of the Church in the course of your speculations.

Obvioulsy I am not question God’s design…but…

Sure seems the appetite outweighs the procreation need. I’m sure He has a reason. But it’s a lifelong struggle; cross.
 
Yes, the ossuary was proven to be a forgery.
As far as I know, the church takes no position on whether St. Joseph was married before or had other children.
In any case, chastity pertains to one’s particular state in life, not whether or not one has sexual relations. Everyone can be chaste–married, unmarried, separated, divorced, widowed, or single.

You don’t think the girl has any responsiblity for her appearance? Being immodest can be a sin…she might well be ignorant of this…but that doesn’t mean she isn’t responsible and accountable for her dress (or lack of).

Well, this is complicated for me. I myself dress modestly, and I am mindful of how immodesty can affect others (besides sometimes being just plain tacky). But the comment reminded me just a bit of a “blame the victim” scenario. Probably the girl thought she just looked cute, and wasn’t out to snare innocent men. Who knows what her motivation was? In the end, it comes down to personal responsibiity on everyone’s part. C’mon guys, look the other way! And say a prayer.

Hmmmm so a girl who is trying to look cute (in a tube top etc) isn’t trying to get attention? She might not be trying to ‘snare’ a man…but it is possible she was seeking attention from men.

Guys do look the other way alot of times…it doesn’t erase that image however. Of course prayer is always a good idea.
