A Texas parish priest has written a column for the El Paso Times in which he strongly denounces homosexual activity.

“Every single Catholic, out of fidelity to charity and truth, has the absolute duty to oppose (1) the murder of unborn babies, and (2) any and all government attempts to legalize homosexual union,” wrote Father Michael Rodriguez in an August 2 column.

While I agree with him, I would rather this be preached from the pulpit.

Here is the link to Fr. Michael Rodriguez’ op-ed:

Fr. Michael Rodriguez:
Recently, a couple of letter writers claimed that in a democracy, it’s up to the majority to decide between right and wrong. This form of reasoning is not only false, it’s ludicrous!

While it’s true that a majority of the citizens in a democracy has the political power to impose its “morality” on society, this juridical reality has no bearing whatsoever on the intrinsic moral value of actions.
Abortion and homosexual acts are unequivocally intrinsic moral evils. And friends, this objective truth doesn’t depend on the opinion of the majority. Frighteningly, if the majority chooses to deny the objective moral order, then we will all suffer the pestiferous consequences.

He is right. Killing babies and not producing any is a good way to end the human race.

The truth is the truth and it’s that simple. Let’s vote for good people who will help us make changes for the better.

I like this guy. He’s right, morality is not determined by majority opinion (subjective), it is always what it is no matter what (objective).

Fr. Michael Rodriguez’ recent article is connected to two others he wrote earlier this year. At that time, the city council of El Paso was considering extending benefits to the same-sex partners of employees. You can read them here:

His second op-ed was in response to an article written by another priest in the Diocese of El Paso who had objected to Fr. Rodriguez’ first article. You can read the other priest’s op-ed here:
veneremurcernui.wordpress.com/2010/04/21/a-debate-out-west/

BTW, Fr. Rodriguez ends his second op-ed with this warning:
To those Catholics who remain obstinate in either their dissent of Church teaching or homosexual sins, I promise to pray for your conversion, because nothing less than your eternal salvation is at stake.
However, I cannot allow you to step all over our precious faith with impunity, and scandalize faithful Catholics. No, not on my watch. You will be denied Holy Communion. Obviously, this measure is taken out of paternal solicitude for your conversion.

To Father’s words, I have only one response:

YES! YES! YES!

AMEN, PADRE!!! KEEP STANDING AND PREACHING WHAT’S RIGHT!!!

WOO HOO!!! 👍 👍 👍

I’m referring to Father Michael Rodriguez’s words here…is there any way of emailing him to give him our moral support? He is my kind of preacher-never afraid to tell the TRUTH!

Way to go Father - we need more like you to preach the tuff stuff.

Here’s what the opposing priest had to say:

Rev. Rodriguez dogmatically states many absolutes that are not, in reality, dogmatic absolutes. It was erroneous for him to base his position regarding City Council on the claim that the Catholic Church has taught “infallibly” on the issue of homosexuality. In fact, the Catholic Church has never taught infallibly on this or any other moral issue, although, it does teach binding moral principles on many issues. The Church also teaches about the absolute supremacy of the individual conscience enlightened by the Gospel of Christ. God alone is the sole judge of the human conscience

It is scary that he is still is allowed to hold a position in the diocese a San Antonio.

and why do think that so many Catholics are taking the wrong of things? it is because of some priests who are allowed to stay and teach the wrong things to the people. they are allowed to not only stay but also permitted to teach anti Catholicism to the people without any correction. that is why we are having such a crisis of Faith.

Attaboy, Father!

We need more like him-check out the Bulletin from-this Jesuit Church:

Woe.

There’s a battle going on. Like Father Corapi says, at times it breaks through the Veil to our side-becomes visible.

God Bless.
+Jesus, I Trust In You.

I think the Father is incorrect here, but I would love clarification. For instance, is he saying that a relationship between two homosexuals should not be recognized by, say, hospitals, when it comes to visitation rights? The “legalization of homosexual union” would seem to cover a whole host of legal factors. I wonder which ones he would deny homosexual partners?

The lack of hospital visitation is a canard. It can easily taken care of by a durable power of attorney. In fact nobody should rely on your relationship with an other to grant you visitation rights and/or power of making medical decisions.

Doesn’t the fact that a durable power of attorney is involved, make this a “legal recognition” issue? That is, if two homosexuals have set up this agreement with the attorney, isn’t that a matter of the state recognizing the relationship between these two homosexuals?

Not necessarily. In this case its morally neutral since an individual can appoint anybody. Thus in and of itself it doesn’t actually recognize the relationship.
