I was talking about the dangers of socialized medicine. You’re way off topic.
um… isn’t the topic of this thread about a priest and nun attacking a restaurant owner? It would seem that a discussion of socialized medicine is way off-topic.

I was responding to the person who said lack of socialized medicine was evil. The other poster responded to my post with subject matter that had nothing to do with anything I said.

I will put it simply then. McCain does not support healthcare for everyone. As a result, many suffer. So McCain has a policy where people will suffer as a result.
It still stands, though you may believe otherwise, that politics generally is “picking the best of a bad bunch”.
Catholics do not pick the less of two evils, but the best of two rights. It is immoral to choose the lesser of two evils, because you’re still choosing evil.

As to the difference between abortion and healthcare, the Church has made it very clear that the two are not the same and should not be treated as the same.

Hope this helps.

Do you realize how many people die because of socialized medicine?
Not as many as die as a result of not being able to afford health care.

Keep in mind, people who live in countries with socialized medicine live on average ten years longer, and in better health and better quality of life, than Americans do.

But it hinders the the health care of some to improve that of others. In the U.S. those who have health care have it better than those with health care in other countries. They wait less for chemo therapy for example, and are less likely to die from cancer. Of course homeless people have better health care Britain. That’s what brings up the life expectancy there, but middle and upper class Americans have better care than those with socialized medicine. In America if you work hard and get a good job with insurance you will have access to the best medical technology and doctors in the world. In Canada, the quality is capped to provide for others. Life expentancy is misleading because there is less of a difference between classes in other countries.

Not really. Everyone gets the same level of health care. And the waiting lists are not that bad, most of the time.

I live in Canada, and I’ve never had to wait for anything that I couldn’t wait for, and neither has anyone in my family. It’s not a “first come, first served” waiting list, but a “sickest first” and those with more minor problems wait longer, because they can.

I know everyone gets the same. That’s what makes it mediocre. It’s rationed. The poor probably get better care than they would here but the middle and upper classes get worse. In the U.S you have the potential to get the best in the world with no waiting lists for anything if you have the right plan. In Canada everyone is stuck in the same system. I’ve never had to deal with any waiting lists to see a specialist in my life. If I moved to Canada the quality and efficiency would be lower.

If you can afford the right plan, that is. Perhaps the rich can get better knee surgery here than in Canada, but when the poor are turned away for chemo because it is “experimental” in the eyes of the insurance company, something is clearly wrong.

The bleeding edge of health care does no good if only the richest can reach it.

I find that usually, politics is picking the best from a bad bunch. For instance, I live in Australia, and we have free universal healthcare here. I find it evil that McCain continues to support healthcare only for those who can afford it; many people die and suffer as a result. A reasonable argument could be made that this is killing, just as much as abortion.
Please explain, “McCain continues to support healthcare only for those who can afford it”. I didn’t realize this was one part of his campaign platform. Abortion is an intrinsic evil, not providing universal healthcare is not intrinsically evil. Resonable christians can disagree as to the methods employed to help the poor, sick, etc.

You obviously think universal healthcare is the way to go. I however think that it may solve some problems, but it may create new ones. We can disagree over how to implement healthcare, but we cannot disagree about whether abortion is to remain legal.

I think this thread is off topic. What does McCain and healthcare have to do with the original topic?

I did some research, and it turns out the wait times between a general and a specialist are on average 18 weeks. I could get to any specialist I want by next week.

cbc.ca/health/story/2007/10/15/waittimes-fraser.html
And I can get any specialist I want, without having to lose my house over it. So, I have to wait a while; it’s worth keeping my house and the lifestyle (eating at regular intervals and driving my six year old car) to which I have become accustomed. 🙂

I am not rich. My parents are middlle class, and I know if I work hard and get the right plan I’ll have access to the best medical technologies and doctors in the world because the quality won’t be rationed to pay for someone else. If people in Canada want that they have to come here. It’s nice not relying on the government because waiting six months for back surgery isn’t fun. If I work hard, I deserve the best, and in a timely manner. There’s something communist like about forcing people who’ve been successful in life to get behind a homeless addict for health care because he needs it more.

So a priest and 2 nuns go into a restaurant and smash a
chair over the owner’s head… (very funny, i just don’t believe it)

in which country does he get the best health care?

p.s. - that obama joke wasn’t funny, and i voted for mccain

pps - if someone has no health care, is it worse to do nothing,
or to brutally murder them in an abortion?
vicious murder is clearly worse than neglect

Obama has told us he is not qualified to know when God’s creation begins. He has also told us he is christian.
]
If he is truly Christian then he should be qualified to know when God’s creation begins. Just read the Bible and it tells you that He knew you before your mothers womb, and again when Elizabeth hailed Mary with and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Sounds pretty clear to me that Gods teaching is from moment of conception.

Make up Artist,

Are all people who don’t have great health care in the US addicts?

Sheila, are you, by any chance, Catholic? If so, HOW can you vote for a pro-abortion candidate like Obama?! Didn’t you hear the bishops say that Catholics could not, in good conscience, vote for a pro-abortion candidate?😦
Sigh…For heaven’s sake, give it a rest, willya? This is not the Elections:2008 forum.:nope:

You will have? What about right now? If you find that you have an illness, or if you are involved in an accident, what would happen to you right now?

Accidents and illnesses don’t wait until after you’ve made your millions, you know - they can happen any time.

(Also, no matter how much money you have, if you have a pre-existing condition - that is, if an accident or illness happens to you before you get yourself a health care plan - they won’t take you at all.)
