Priest still believes, but not in Jesus
Sacked Catholic priest Peter Kennedy says he hasn’t given up on God and prayer, but no longer believes in Jesus.

Father Kennedy, dismissed by the church for unorthodox practices, says he now considers Jesus “a fable”.

The rebel priest made headlines in 2009 when he formed a congregation in exile.

He was earlier sacked by the church for unorthodox practices such as allowing women to preach the homily and blessing same-sex relationships.

Fr Kennedy says he still believes in God, just not a God who intervenes in the affairs of humans.

Why do newspapers eschew paragraphs?

Maybe he will come back.
Jesus a fable? Funny, we are all wrong when we say aC/dC.

His group`s library includes books by the likes of Fr. Hans Kung and Bp. Spong!
Is it any wonder he rejects Jesus! 🤷

Following their ousting from the parish church (It almost became a siege!), Fr. Kennedy and his flock moved to the nearby Trades Hall. Their first Christmas Day “Mass” there included: “A reading from the writings of John Selby Spong.” as either the first or second “reading” (i forget which).

This outfit`s a write off.

He should not be allowed too preach, no matter what denomination. How can he perform services and say that Jesus is a fable? He should have enough knnowledge to know what he is doing is NOT VALID AND NOT LICID. Let’s pray for him and let God be his judge.

JESUS I TRUST IN YOU

What baffles me about this is his apparent belief that “Scripture scholars” think Jesus didn’t literally exist (he doesn’t say this, but he says that there’s no evidence Jesus existed and that Scripture scholars say you can’t take the Gospels literally). He doesn’t seem to have read NT scholarship very carefully. Granted, NT scholarship is vast and confusing and my own knowledge of it is superficial.

Of course, newspaper accounts of any theological issue are invariably confused. But Fr. Kennedy (a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, whatever his heresies/apostasy) seems pretty confused himself.
Why do newspapers eschew paragraphs?
Because they figure people won’t read more than the first sentence anyway.

Any ‘priest’ who doesn’t even believe Jesus Christ is not even Christian. Anyone know the proper name for a ‘defrocked priest’? It seems derogatory to the Priesthood to include that sacred title in his name. Pray for him, if you have time; I’ve got Much needier to Pray For, Including Catholic clergy who ask for prayers courteously, on their Divine mission.

 That’s like working at a DMV and not believing in cars -____- :dts:
Look, I see where you’re going with this, but it bothers me when individuals try to equate the supernatural with the natural. Realistically, it’s NOT like working at the DMV and not believing in cars. It’s just a poor, false analogy.

If this is what they believe, then why have “services” at all? Do Deists pray? What would be the point? A God who is and remains wholly uninvolved and uninterested in our lives is deaf to your petitions anyway, so why not play golf or just sleep in or whatever?

No, it’s not derogatory; it’s respectful of the fact that when a man is ordained, it’s forever, whatever errors he may fall into afterward. And anybody may fall into error. Only the Pope is infallible.

The Priesthood is forever, even if one is “defrocked.”

Same thing with baptism, he is a Christian forever. Repentance and confession can bring him back into communion with the Church.

Anyone who cannot put an intelligent sentence together has no business leading others.

In spite of his warped beliefs, he *still *seems to be very, very strange…

Even worse, and i forgot to mention it before, this priest performed invalid “Baptisms”: “…in the name of the Creator…” You all know the rest! He did it for years! 😦

In the end, Rome intervened!
And there was a stink!
And he and his sidekicks enjoy a lot of support from “Catholics”.

at least if he is not a roman catholic priest anymore, he cannot be misleading Catholics who attend Mass each weekend at his old parish.
for those that are following him, we need to pray that they see the error of their ways and find their way back to the Church.
i have heard about bishop spong and read some of what he wrote. it was partly because of people like him, that i could no longer remain in the episcopal church and converted to Catholicism.

In his case they aren’t needed. His nonsensical rants proved them unnecessary. It reads like a space cadet. St. John definitely was right, some may have never been really with us. And what little he knew of Jesus if at all. I won’t post the rest, because his words are scandalizing.
“It’s true I’ve given up on that sort of a God, that sort of a ‘being’ that sits up there in heaven somewhere and intervenes in human affairs,” he told AAP on Wednesday.
"If you believe in a God that intervenes into human history why didn’t God intervene in the massacre in Norway? Whatever God is, God is not that sort of God, obviously.
“That’s what I’m trying to say.”
Fr Kennedy said he still believed in prayer, but not asking things of God.
“For me prayer is just standing in wonder and awe at the mystery of life, the beauty of life, the goodness of people.”
Praying in church was not about talking directly to God, he said.
"It (public prayer) is about informing the community of people within the community and outside the community who are in need, it’s not about informing God.
“God already knows all that, that’s God.”
This is a result from the Error of Modernism… an attack on the Son is an attack on the Father…Cast doubt on the Son, and you obstruct the way to God.

It’s sad. Pope Pius X was right to have priests take an oath against the Heresy of Modernism.

en.gloria.tv/?media=11641

No one can truly say they still believe in God, when they already were shown the WAY through the Son. They don’t believe in GOD anymore, just some abstaction and a God created relative to one’s views first. A God that stems from self, where his laws and his commandments can be subjectively fixed to justifying sins & errors.

He is currently a wolf in sheep’s clothing; every single daft quote of his reflects a man eager to lead others astray from every which way, with old errors **(oscillates between Deism, to new age, to Modernism) **and recycled fallacies…He reads like a man lonely in the misery he has chosen.
His words will only mislead potential atheists and agnostics and those in doubt of God from coming to the faith. Reading that full article is disgusting. The news were giddy to report this nonsensical weed, throwing his rantings against a God he resents under the guise of a ‘former Catholic priest’ for whatever sins he hopes to justify.

The most annoying thing about this way of attacking Jesus Christ is now the enemies say, *“Come, enough time has passed, people are turning away and hardening their hearts , Let US say the Son of God, never was” * A direct contradiction to John 1.
(Rather, attack:hmmm: John’s Gospel definitely frustrates certain principalities if you get my drift)

Logic and History , disprove them. For one, the enemies can’t keep their story straight in attacking the Way, the Truth, and the Life :rotfl: May the Lord rebuke these people and cast off their errors.

May St. Michael’s Prayer Return and Be Commonly Recited In the Pews

For The Wayward Priest
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle! Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan, and all the other evil spirits who roam about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Good Lord(and I say this in all reverence), how does a catholic priest loose his faith to such an extent that he denies the historical reality of Jesus. Does he not want to see the living rich spiritual facets of the catholic faith? Has he fallen so far from faith that even Gods is nuetered? Certainly prayers are needed, not only for him, but for those who walk in his foot steps.

another woo woo priest… what’s new? now if we can only purge the woo woo American Catholic bishops from the Church in America… the weak ones that enable politicians like Biden and Cuomo to spit in the face of our Lord.

I like the way you defend yourself, ftw. 👍

That acronym ‘ftw’ is no coincidence by the way :bigyikes:
