well maybe not fire the teacher… but I would question her choice of wall decoration(s)…not everyone wants to look at Bush all day.

Wow. Some of these people are nuts. With the way it seems, might as well take down pictures of every other republican president. I thought it was a good thing for kids to know the presidents… and that would include Bush… Oh wait a sec, according to various libs, he wasn’t even elected, so maybe his portrait should be taken down…

walks off in frustration, almost ready to throw laptop across the room… Nevermind. If I did that, I wouldn’t be able to access the CAF again. 🙂

I dunno - it kind of sounds like that teacher was preachin’ politics. If that were the case - good riddance. I can’t stand teachers who inflict their views on students.

Maybe she was preaching politics, but there has to be something awfully strange going on the we haven’t heard about. How can there be a credible objection to a social studies teacher who cannot have a photo of the president of the United States? I suspect the picture has nothing to do with anything, except it was some kind of legal hook for the talons of the preacher.

BTW, people may not want to look at Bush all day. If the president were Bill (or Hillary) would you feel better about a photo of the president on the wall of a social studies room?

Alan-

Good lord NO…why would I want to look at “Billy Boy” or his “thunder thigh” wife???
Why decorate a classroom to begin with…dont the textbooks have enough pictures in them?? A clock a calendar and chalk board are all that is needed! Why do we need visual aides???

Another case of freedom of speech. Aren’t these people embarrassed?
When hate is involved, it clouds a person’s judgement. Combine this with relativism and nothing is out of bounds. This is just further proof.

Having a picture of OUR President in the classroom is more than appropriate no matter who it is. It has nothing to do with the individual and everything to do with the office.

What about of OUR Pope? Not everyone in public school is an American…so he is not everyones President!

I would expect to see pictures of OUR Pope in the classroom of OUR Catholic schools.

Everyone in an American public school is living under a system governed by the President no matter their national origin. And honestly, while I welcome all foreigners who are here legally it is still America. I’ll cater to the overwhelming majority. The foreigners can have their own pictures at home.

And we do…thank you

talking about portrait, does anyone have the picture showing Khrushchev banging his shoe in a UN meeting?

This was discussed in another thread a few months ago. Sounds like the principal was making a misguided attempt to regulate partisan material on bulletin boards, while the teacher had poor interpersonal skills in response to the principal’s ignorant approach.

Kruschev and the shoe? Here’s one, although it’s not that clear. What does this have to do with the thread again?

As for Karin’s point, I don’t see how the presence of foreigners in the classroom is relevant. If my children are in a classroom, I will be unsurprised and unperturbed that a picture of the country’s leader is on the wall, whether that leader is Tony Blair, Vladimir Putin, Hu Jintao, Fidel Castro, Robert Mugabe, etc.

thanks. I just don’t want to start new thread in water cooler

… an article “quoted” from “World Net Daily” :whacky: :whacky: :whacky:

Why does anyone even bother to respond to stuff like this? WND is the political equivelant of the “National Enquirer”, so quoting (and responding) to them pretty much dumps “y’all” right into the old trailer park. There are a lot of intelligent people here, we can do better…
Peace.

Peace.

“A portrait of President Bush has led to the filing of a federal lawsuit, after a New York schoolteacher says she was ordered to remove the image from a display of U.S. presidents and ultimately was forced to resign her position.”

According to the article, the picture of President Bush was part of a display of U.S. presidents. Apparently the principal of this school believes that kids should only be taught the part of American history she likes. No wonder kids are getting such a poor quality education these days.

You have a good point. Teachers in grades K-12 seem to be very obsessive about decorating their rooms. It seems that a well decorated room is a prerequisite for teacher to be considered diligent. I almost get the impression that’s considered a very “serious” part of their job by school admins. :whacky:

Or, if you prefer, “much decorated” instead of “well decorated.”

Ridiculous assertion. But sense your sensibilities are so easily offended here is another source with an actual copy of the complaint that was filed in court. Maybe now you can have a constructive comment. (or not.)
