i think they should be counseled by their priest/bishop and forgiven.… if you threw everyone to the devil that didn’t practice what they preached, i dare say we wouild be short a few in these forums, and i am not excluding myself… casting stones in glass houses is a dangerous thing…

splinters and timbers my friends, splinters and timbers… pray for those you perceive as outside their faith… spend more time looking at youself in the mirror instead of looking at someone else through their window…
I assume you meant counseled…until they repent, **then they will be forgiven. ** Or have we eliminated a step while I was away?

Thanks bud

What is wrong with holding these politiicans publicly to account? After all, they take their rabid dissention of Catholic teachings to the public, why would it be okay for them do that, but wrong for Catholics to publicly call them on their clear dissent?
well the liberal response would be: why punish a good politician who likes to pass out the entitlement money–just because he says F*** off to the pope and the teachings of our Church and helped kill a few million babies.

Money trumps all after all…the only unforgivable sin, after all, is not paying your taxes…all other sins we should forgive before they’re even committed.

This should not include only politicians. Anyone who speaks out publicly in favor of abortion should be included.
**I do agree with you but the church should start with public figures, especially the politicians since they are role models to many in this country. **

No problem at all with starting with politicians, lets just get started.

I voted no. Now before I get banned from the forum let me explain my thoughts.

Excommunication is a BIG step. There is more power in the people who elected the politicians than the politicians themselves. We elected them (while maybe not specifically ‘you’). Therefore the problem isn’t always with the top person, but the people who elected them. There needs to be a greater effort of understanding of pro-life issues by starting with the people and changing the way the people think. If we do this, we won’t need to worry about politicians because everyone will be pro-life. While I do think the Church should put much pressure on them, I don’t feel excommunication is the right path to forgiveness. God will be their judge.

Also, does anyone know if priests who have molested children are excommunicated? I don’t believe they are, but perhaps I am wrong. I just think if priest can be forgived, politicians can too.

Sinning is not the issue. Teaching against the faith and claiming to be in communion with the church is the issue. Politicans can’t claim to be in communion with the Church and then publicly contradict Her teachings and invite others to do so as well.

Don’t forget publically reacanting their statements.

They should be warned and disciplined in accordance with Scripture and Church teachings. This is typically not a public process, but if the politicians refuse to resolve the matter privately and continue to call themselves “Roman Catholics”, then the matter becomes public.

If these politicians truly valued their faith and the Church, then they would try to resolve the matters personally. I hate to sound cynical, but I bet some welcome the publicity and sympathy this will generate because they probably couldn’t care less about being Roman Catholic other than the Catholic votes it gives them.

There is no such thing as a “pro-choice” catholic (pro-choice satanists is more like it), just a bunch of idiots kidding themselves.

“NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!”

I love Monty Python.

You rock! 👍

Public pro-abort “Catholics” are a most grievous scandal.

I’d toss in the socialists to, but that be be a bit much right now.
😛

Yes, these politicians should be sued. They are sending a wrong signal to some catholics and non-catholics. Our faith must not be tainted with selfish politicians. If they want to leave the church, let them do it gracefully.

I love my church and if they dont repent, kicking them out is the best option.

What ever happened to the old saying. " Once a Catholic, always a Catholic." Was that just another of the pius fabrications of the pre Vatican II church?

If someone belongs to a private club and does not follow the rules they get kicked out. If you belong to a Country Club and do not follow the dress code at dinner or on the course, do not follow the pool rules, curse the ladies on the golf course or tennis courts, get drunk and make crude remarks to women in the club house you will get the boot. No one has a problem with that, why is it that if you don’t even try to follow the rules of The Church people want to bend over backwards for you so you can still call yourself Catholic.

Maybe cause the Church is not a country club or any kind of organization set up by man. The mark of Baptism is ineradicable.Become a bad Catholic yes, but still a Catholic never-the-less.

Even if you don’t believe what the Church teaches?
