Pro-life candidates are mean people?

The poor women are so scared. They think they can’t live without the option of killing their unwanted, inconvenient children. And they want me to give them the OK. They want me to say Yes, it’s ok and it’s NOT murder… but it is and I cannot say it. I would be sending them to hell by telling them an UNTRUTH… The state cannot tell you something is not a sin if God says it’s a sin. Thou shall not kill. Even if you think or the doctors think your child may be malformed… I know that sounds harsh. The problem is I think, we don’t trust God enough. Dale Evans, Roy Rogers wife had a child malformed. Sure it was humiliating for a STAR to suffer through this. But what did she say? It was a BLESSING, the child was a BLESSING from God… Take God out of the equation and we get pure EVIL… like maybe that guy Gosnell…?

It is illogical for a Christian, much less a Catholic, to embrace the American pro-choice agenda.

Abortion on demand, for any reason, at any time, is logically incoherent, immoral, and most certainly not compassionate.

There are 60 million reasons (and increasing each day) that a pro-life candidate would be righteously angry.

Why does it seem that pro-life candidates (at least those I’m familiar with) are angry? They come across as vengeful, eye-for-an-eye people.
They seem to me to be pro-birth rather than pro-life. Pro-life would mean caring for someone’s needs for his or her entire life, not just getting them born.

They seem very angry to me, too. I’ve always thought it’s because, at the moment, they are not getting their way.

But the old saying, "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar "is true. If they lighten up on the anger and show more understanding to those in turmoil who desire an abortion, they would prevent more people from seeking one. Honey, not vinegar. It works in every situation.

Before you lose your mind on my post, remember the question was about those politicians who support pro-life and pretty much all of us would agree that the Republicans are the ones claiming that publicly. This is my commentary (rant?) on what I see as a break down of one of our parties. This is NOT meant to be some Democrat vs Republican, liberal vs conservative, my party is better than yours! If things veer off in that direction I will not comment or cease posting on the topic.

The highest profile example to the OP’s original question, I think, applies to the current occupant in the Oval Office. He claimed to be Pro-Life during the election when not long before that he was Pro-Choice. I’d let that slide if a normal politician found the light, but he’s a Chameleon on so many other topics if he thinks it suits him and often slaps people in the face that believed him at his words. That bothers me strongly. I’m not going to discuss the merits of this topic, but it’s the first easily demonstrated one that comes to mind. He’s talking about minimizing any support for transgender people under Title 9 right now and almost immediately redefined the military’s policy on transgender people. You might remember this photo from the campaign:

If you step back from your politics for a moment, he objectively fit the description of a mean person. Maybe you like that, but I don’t and there are many others like me. I’m not talking about some “liberal” spin, his body of speeches and tweets are more than enough for me; they came from his own mouth (or fingers). I’d love to be able to vote for a politician that has a full solution for dealing with abortions, not just saving a body count. What’s depressing for me is that many politicians are aligning with Trump who says and does things that virtually no one here would let their child (or grandchildren) get away with.

Here’s the thing: you can’t rescue a child from their mother’s womb the same way you’d rescue a slave from a plantation. You kinda have to sell the mother on the idea of not aborting her child. Otherwise, what’s the plan? Keep women who want abortions locked up until they deliver?
I think ideally, abortion would be prevented with both a carrot and a stick. The carrot would be a comprehensive support network that helps mothers raise and support their children when they otherwise feel unable to do so, thereby eliminating the primary motivation for abortion (financial insecurity).

The stick would be the law. Anyone who still wanted an abortion would be told by the government “You may not!”, and abortion would legally be treated as an act of murder and punished as such. The youth of the victim would even be an aggravating factor.

That’s like the pro-choice people that want to restrict people’s rights through gun control.

A lot of pro-life groups do provide assistance and care to financially insecure mothers, so this idea that they only care about the baby before it’s born isn’t entirely true.

As for being angry, I’d say they have good reason.

Please provide the source for that quote which would prove that Pius X actually said such a thing. Thanks.

We lock people up for attempted murder all the time :man_shrugging:t2:
I’ll take that as a yes. Are you going to keep them locked up after they deliver? Take the baby away from them?

The pro-life candidate running for governor in my state presents himself as mean and violent, as a harsh, unforgiving businessman who will do whatever is necessary to win whatever battle he’s in. He seems to pride himself on stomping on anyone who crosses him.

Yet he’s pro-life. What ever happened to compassionate conservatives?
Sometimes the anti-abortion stance takes on an emboldened attitude thinking (and they really believe it) that God is on their side, alone. Picture in your minds eye the faulty righteousness portrayed by the Pharisees and those ready to stone the adulteress depicted in movies, and you can visualize the indignation at the thought of anyone who actually opposed them, the “true” abiders of the law. I see the same picture as you!~ Mercy is the heart of the law, lest we should ever forget our own transgressions.

They also seem to tie the noose around the necks of those in the liberal camp real tightly!

Can a conservative go into the private homes (or thoughts) of those considering the decision to terminate a pregnancy, perhaps under the most dire of circumstances where the woman may feel no other alternative?

Neither can a liberal.

But you’d have a much better chance entering under one’s roof if it proceeded with kindness and received with love. Just a thought.

And I’m not talking about angry violent conservatives vs angry liberals.

I’m specially talking about pro-life candidates. I want pro-life candidates to exhibit compassionate Catholic values.

I don’t support pro-life candidates like Trump and Wagner. That’s about all I have to say about it because don’t have the wherewithal to fight over whether conservatives or liberals are worse. Two wrongs don’t make it right. You cannot do wrong even if you’re doing it for a good outcome.
All pro-life politicians are not Catholic. Trump & Wagner are not all Catholic. The two of them are nominal Christians at best. And they are both blue collar guys, used to working with truckers, construction workers, unions, etc.

So they are not polished individuals.

They seem to me to be pro-birth rather than pro-life. Pro-life would mean caring for someone’s needs for his or her entire life, not just getting them born.
This is just not true. Pro Life groups have plenty of support groups for helping raise Children.

Furthermore, there was a study once (I can’t find it now) that suggested that conservatives & pro-life Democrats donate more money to the poor and to organizations (like Churches) that help the poor in America and around the world more than liberal pro-choicers. Liberals tend to donate to universities, museums, the arts, etc.

The reason some think they are “pro-birth” rather than “pro-afterbirth” is because conservatives are very big on something called “personal responsibility.”

Many conservatives believe that people should not receive financial help without giving something in return. For example: a married couple receiving food stamps - unless there are medical situations that prevent it - at least one of them should have a job. And if that person cannot find a job, then that person should do community service.

Everyone should contribute to society in exchange for their governmental financial assistance. Either by working a job or doing community service (not the same kind of community service as criminals). The only exceptions should be single mothers - who are contributing to society by raising children and the “home bound.” Even older people and disabled are able to work telephones from home, so there is volunteer work they can do.

So conservatives seem mean and angry because conservatives value hard work, hard workers, and personal responsibility. This is why so many hard working poor in rural America refuse to use food stamps or receive aid. It’s also why so many parents in rural America refuse to financially help their children buy homes, etc. Instead they give them loans or help them to physically build a home on their own land, etc.

Conservatives value hard work and believe it creates character. Don’t believe me: watch the series “Real Life Catholic” on Amazon Prime.

God bless

Some liberals hold those values as well, and some conservatives are total nut jobs (not referencing anyone in particular).

You can’t lump all people who label themselves “conservative” as really sharing the same values. I know conservatives who’ve had multiple abortions. I’m left-leaning, and I don’t believe in abortion under any circumstances. Mould broken.
