Paul Ryan said he believes life begins at conception, Ron Paul an OB/GYN has said that life begins at conception and he knows that from experience.

Pregnancy caused by rape is rare, extremely so. It’s a delicate issue.

It might be best to say something like “I believe life begins at conception” and “we need to work to limit the number of abortions, to decrease them dramatically in this country”… things like this, not to be trapped into some blunder.

But bless these men all the same, the media colluding with the left, sticks it to them. One mispoken word.

Not all, I’m no expert but a lot of abortions already have an ultra sound as part of the operation.

With Abby Johnson, she was director of a Planned Parenthood, I read her book, think it’s called Unplanned.
Just to be clear, she was not a director of a Planned Parenthood. That person is a CEO who runs the entire operation. She was, I believe, what’s called a “clinic manager” which means she scheduled appointments. I understand she was fired. Her claims have no substantiating evidence whatsoever.

You now make a claim and you now can substantiate it.

I’m sure not going to take the word of Planned Parenthood if that is your source, that is a joke if that is your source.

Could I get a reference for this statistic, please?
Does the source save some babies? Or is your concern more with the abortion fat cat industry. It definitely has an effect, and I’ve got a conscience enough that if one person is saved, it’s a good law.

Yeah, Planned Parenthood might say Abby Johnson was fired because she saw what their revenue making abortion selling industry was all about, that’s a good one, priceless comedy if it wasn’t so sad.

Believe me, there are a number of women who have left Planned Parenthood, another one saw an ultra sound abortion and left for the same reason, Julia Mae must be hoping we are just ill informed of this evil. Oh Planned Parenthood might say she was fired, that’s a good one.

The pro-life movement is seeing a problem with HOW they said these words, it was shocking to hear a word like “legitimate rape” when what was meant was “actual rape”.
Yes, Akin’s comment was taken out of context, and misused by his political opponents. Its the sort of dirty politics that, in this media saturated age, should be easy for an individual to fact check. Unfortunately, most voters don’t take the time, or aren’t able to take the time, to do that.

The reason I used Mourdock as an example, is because it was a clear instance of the rape issue torpedoing his campaign
TIt’s how they said it.
That isn’t what the article said. It said that the pro-life movement shouldn’t compromise, and that they can win hearts with personal stories. I think that speaks to the sort of cultural change which is the topic of this thread. The attitudes of voters need to be changed, and the candidates can’t do that… its a task which falls to the pro-life movement.

Me: It’s how they said it.
That isn’t what the article said. ment.
Yes, it’s what the article said:
Rebecca Kiessling, a pro-life attorney conceived in rape, says the problem is not that they hold the pro-life position opposing abortion in such circumstances but that the answer to the question left them set up for criticism.

I predicted that Republican party apologists would blame Richard Mourdock and Todd Akin’s losses on the fact that they are 100% pro-life,** instead of acknowledging that the losses were due to how poorly they expressed their positions.**
Are you saying these statements say it is not how they said it? Seems to me it does.

Yes, both men expressed themselves poorly. One mentioned “legitimate rape” and the other candidate seemed to suggest that rape was God’s will. But their problems went beyond that.

Rebecca Kiessling, whose comments are the basis for the article, said that no-exception for rape is a defensible position She offers, as her sole evidence, that she got a politician to change his position by telling him the story of his life. (She had been almost aborted due to a rape, but lived to tell the tale.)

Her claim is a far cry from saying that Mourdock and Akin wouldn’t have suffered politically from their rape stance. What it says is that she was able to change someone’s opinion based upon her compelling life story. Her comments speaks of the need to effect cultural change. The attitudes of the public regarding rape and abortion need to change

Her claim doesn’t say that the battle has already been won and that politicians just need to express themselves better.

But she is hardly saying that Akin said it correctly in saying “legitimate rape” or Mourdock spoke correctly in saying I believe “blessing from God”.

But back to the point, misspoken words work both ways, when Obama said “You didn’t build that”, that hurt him a lot, actually that is probably worse than saying “47%” and it seems people are saying “lazy” too, let’s have a reality check, I don’t think Romney called people actually “Lazy”. I may be wrong but that is off topic except for being about “misspeaking words”.

I’m sorry it took 40 years for people to figure this out.
For 40 years pro lifers have been changing hearts and pursing change to the law

Working to give women the kind of material help they need so they can choose against abortion and forthe life of their child is a good thing; a vital and necessary thing. But it’s not sufficient. It’s not a substitute for laws that protect developing unborn life – laws that restrict and one day end permissive abortion. Again, law teaches and forms, as well as regulates. It’s a moral exercise. It always embodies someone’s idea of what we ought or ought not to do. Obviously we can’t illegalize every sin and evil act in society. But we can at least try to stop killing the innocent, which is what every abortion involves
Changing hearts is an aim, but political outreach is important. Abolitionist William Wilberforce did not wait to try and only change hearts on slavery, he sought to change the law. Caring about saving lives mean also caring about changing the laws which are not just

Pro life legislation is effective in the abortion rate. Review of abortion info from 1985 to 2005 found ‘solid evidence’ laws that restrict abortion ‘have an impact on the childbearing decisions of women,’ Michael J New said in State Politics and Policy Quarterly, a peer reviewed publication targetted at state policymakers. Mr New found parental notification laws correlated with 15% decline in in state abortion rates for minors; Informed consent laws reduced in state abortions by 5 - 7%; limiting Medicaid funding for abortion reduced abortion by 9% in states with this law etc

In Minnesota because they have elected many pro life candidates to the legislature and pro life laws they have a 21% decline in abortion in the last 5 years

The article is generally correct in realizing that this is not an issue for the government to decide. I am surprised that there are many Republican pundits who are blaming their overwhelming losses on either weak candidates or candidates who did not express their positions clearly. In actuality, these candidates were only weak in that they hold positions on this issue that are outside of the maintsream. They communicated their positions, and the electorate disagreed with them. Post election polls (according to USA Today) stated that only 13% of the electorate agreed with no exceptions for rape, etc. The bottom line is that unpopular positions result in weak candidates.

In May, Gallup reported that the percentage of Americans who identify themselves as supporting legalized abortion has dropped to a record low.
“The 41% of Americans who now identify themselves as “pro-choice” is down from 47% last July and is one percentage point below the previous record low in Gallup trends, recorded in May 2009,” the polling firm noted. On the other hand, 51 percent of Americans call themselves pro-life, one percentage point away from the record high.
With a 51-41 percentage-point pro-life split in the number of Americans who take a position on abortion, pro-life Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney should have had a greater percentage of the popular vote on Tuesday. President Barack Obama, who favors unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy, takes a position that very few Americans support.
Despite the breakdown, exit polling data shows just 36 percent of voters who showed up to the polls took a pro-life position supporting making all or most abortions illegal while 59 percent took a pro-abortion position favoring keeping all or most abortions legal.
The disconnect in the numbers mean one of a number of things happened: a) pro-life voters did not turn out in the same numbers as abortion advocates, b) pro-life voters went to the polls and either voted for a third-party candidate or did not vote in the presidential election, or c) pro-life voters supported the most pro-abortion president in history.
Much of the response to the presidential election has revolved around how the Obama campaign did a much better job turning out his supporters than the Romney team. If that’s the case, and pro-life voters stayed home, they did the pro-life cause a terrible disservice and have potentially left unborn children without legal support for another 40 years if President Obama can continue packing the Supreme Court with abortion activists.
If b) and c) are true, and pro-life voters either supported Obama or voted for another candidate and failed to support the nominee who had pledged to help overturn Roe, sign pro-life bills, de-fund abortion and Planned Parenthood, the pro-life movement needs to do a better job convincing these people how to truly vote pro-life.
lifenews.com/2012/11/08/exit-polling-data-shows-pro-lifers-failed-to-vote-pro-life

Planned Parenthood spent $15 million reelctecing Obama and hyped up the whole war on women falsity. Pro lifers may have felt less engaged in this campaign

I’m sorry it took 40 years for people to figure this out.
I’m more sorry people have the misconception that the pro-life movement only means to fight it via political means which for the past 40 years has been more than that.

You are more like all talk, no action, lots of strides have been made, no reason to go through this rigamarole again, support abortion if you wish but don’t tell others that they don’t do anything, Planned Parenthood has been defunded by politicians, people can support baby genocide but don’t tell untruths. Don’t insult people who actually accomplish something for the weakest and most innocent.

Life News, Life Site News, those websites show plenty is done.

These kinds of posts seem more to be about yanking people’s chains.
Excuse me sir, but I do not support abortion. You are out of line.

Yes, there are things that are happening, but abortion is still legal…that is what I am talking about.
