what’s the matter … you don’t you think he can take care of himself? 😛
My patience is wearing thin and quite frankly I don’t have the wherewithal to graciously ignore you snarky remarks I ask that you refrain from p*ssing me off.

ACT OF FAITH
O my God, who are infallible Truth and can neither deceive nor be deceived, I firmly believe all that you have revealed and propose to my belief though your holy Church, because you have revealed it. I believe that you are one in nature and three in Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I believe that you are the Creator of all things and that you reward the just for all eternity in heaven and punish the wicked for all eternity in hell. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God made man, that he suffered and died for my sins and rose from the dead in glory, and that it is only in him through the Holy Spirit that eternal life is given to us . I believe in all that your holy Church believes. I thank you for having called me to the true faith, and I propose that with the help of your grace I will live and die in this holy faith. Amen.

I’m a moral nihilist, yes. I don’t think “morality” exists, as in an objective set of “shoulds” for all people and all times. There are only values – our values lead us to act and evaluate the actions of others.

Humble maid:
What are these values. Please enlighten me because last time I check genocides were thought to be good by their perpetrators.

My understanding is that this god character thinks it is just to punish people for not holding a belief in him. (Or, if you want to play the semantics game, he thinks it’s just for him to have established a system in which choosing not to believe in him results in one’s self-chosen eternal torture)

If that’s not true, please correct me.

Thank you for allowing me to correct you. Please see my post #398

Well, obviously. I’m speaking hypothetically. If there is a god who has these kinds of values that include valuing eternal torture as a punishment for thoughts, then (and only then) would this being be worse than Hitler.

You can’t accuse God of something if you deny Him. How do you judge the astrocities committed by men?

Yes, I do find those things unjust and reprehensible. If I were to invent a world of “rules” that all people had to follow, it wouldn’t make them any less or more reprehensible and unjust

This my dear is called evil.

Take it easy sis. I think he understood, and left. Get a good night’s sleep. Luv ya.

I love it … it’s getting hot in here. Oh yeah, what’s up with all the foul language (isn’t that un-lady like, especially for a good Christian woman) 😛

ah yes I love warm climates.
Yeah well so do I but we are going different places. You seem to be in an instigating mood? Usually you are denigrating, I suppose it is a step up. Keep using humor it suits you better.

Well if I knew foul language was the way to your heart, then **** why didn’t you tell me before Yankee? 😉

Ok, well, since you don’t like my “preconceived ideas,” let’s just go with what you’ve written:
Sin controlled the gates of death. This is why Jesus had to die. Why else would God agree to let His only Beloved Son be the ransom for our sins so as to save all mankind? His blood was demanded in order to pay the debt of sin.
I’ve placed in bold a passive grammatical construction that hides the agent, the grammatical subject doing the “demanding” in that sentence. Who is it that demands blood as the debt for sin? Who established this system of blood sacrifice and atonement?

Let’s reflect on the fact that in this story, the god character is supposedly all-powerful. He could have, for example, just erradicated Sin with a snap of his fingers. He could have chosen all kinds of ways of atonement (i.e. not involving blood). He chooses instead a bizarre blood ritual, involving pain, torture, and crucifixion, in which he sacrifices himself to himself in order to redeem mankind.

I’m starting to get a good idea of the values of this being, and they’re not the sort of values I would admire in anyone, fictional or not.
It is you who seals your fate; God executes the judgement accordingly.
Yes. This god character has willingly set up a system in which someone’s non-belief or denial – a thought – results in that person suffering for an eternity.

Again, the god character in the story is all powerful. He could have chosen to judge people only on the basis of their deeds and not on the basis of their thoughts or beliefs – he chose to create a system whereby something that an individual thinks results in an unpleasant afterlife.

I do not approve of a being who values such an unjust system.

I’m sorry if anyone is offended by my judgment of the values of your god – but I can’t help but evaluate the character of someone presented to me. I will leave you to your values – good day.

Hey I guess deluding yourself into thinking everyone you like in history was a Christian is one way to go?

Religion = Santa Claus for grown ups :dancing:

OK, kidding aside, I’ve seen it all on these boards. Bad logic, bad physics, complete ignorance of topics like evolution and biology in generaly, and a level of biase that can only come from indoctrination. I understand some people will remain attracted to religion. But in many (maybe even most) cases it seems to blind people so much they become completely intolerant and so narrow minded they simply lose sight of real facts.
I can’t help but think this is a ninja attack on my post. Look at my first post on this site, I used to be an evolutionist. So much for your theory of indoctrination (yet another proof of your absense of any facts or knowledge, p.s. also your grammar sucks at places)

Yes, you get to freely choose whether or not to believe in this silly nonsense

oh no … not another my way or eternal damnation religion

Freely choose me, or I’ll burn you in an eternal hell (hmmm, nahh no cohersion there). How you guys fall for this stuff never ceases to amaze me :D:D:D

As Paul said, I am free to do everything, but not everything is good…honestly do you ever think twice before you post? All of your arguments are full of nonsense…

Humble maid:
Thank you again for keeping an open mind. It is the Law that demands the Blood. Revelation 5:9 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to take the **book, and to open the seals **thereof; because thou wast slain, and hast redeemed to God, in thy blood” The only one that can loose the seal of the Law was Christ. WHY? Because he was God the Son(divine being) the **ultimate price **for the offense of rebellion(sin). “For you are bought with a great price” (1 Corinthians 6:20).

I understand your POV. Let me digress. As I mentioned above that Jesus can be the only one to loose the seal because it is God who established the law and only God can fulfill it. He took it upon Himself to go to His people on Earth and bring them back home to Him from the principality of this world (Hell) who is ruled by Satan. Satan was not going to give up his station that easily. Remeber that he was thrown out of Heaven and hurled onto the earth where he plots the ruin of men. Why is he allowed to do this? Free will. Satan decided against worshipping God. He knew that if he could mislead humans he could make them fall under his authority and that the only way God could get them back was to execute the Law which demanded a life for a life; Jesus for Adam and his descendents. This life to be exchanged for the ransom had to be done out of pure love hence the blood of the lamb(pure and untarnished). As for the bizarre rituals, pain, torture etc… this was inflicted because of the hatred in some men; instigated by satan not endorsed by God.

I’m starting to get a good idea of the values of this being, and they’re not the sort of values I would admire in anyone, fictional or not.

I realize your way of thinking but again you need to learn more and read more to understand God’s ways. Then it will make sense completely. It is hard for you because like myself when I was a child I could not understand concept of evil or good; children are innocent. Therefore when I heard of atrocities and how men get away with it, it didn’t ring well with me. I was told that God was powerful and punished those who were bad. Why then can’t he just thunderbolt them out of existence. Then I learned about Free Will and the laws governing the universe in which God created. Even He must abide by what He has sealed. This is why we know He is Loving because of His creation and plan of salvation given freely of His Beloved Son.

He doesn’t want to send you to an eternity of suffering. Let me give this analogy please. If I asked you to come to a banquet at my house and that it would be the greatest thing you ever attended and a special prize is to be given, would you come? Let us say that you decided you couldn’t for whatever reason(too busy, got work, don’t feel like it, you don’t like my cooking etc) Later on you realize that those who came received a great prize beyond compare.(eg. a free trip around the world and money incentive or perhaps everlasting happiness and life) would that have likely changed your mind to attend the banquet? You then chastise me for not telling you that there was this wonderful prize. Would this be my fault or yours?
Let’s take another scenario to show what is the result of forfeiture. We are at war and our city is being bombarded with heavy artillery and my house is the only safe refuge since it is invisible to the enemy’s radar; I step outside and see you and urgently ask you to come in. You don’t like me because of some rumor you heard of me and decide to reject my request and seek refuge elsewhere. In the end, those found outside the house became victims of war, but those found in my house remained safe and sound.
Jesus is inviting you to His banquet and asking you to take refuge in His Father’s House. Why do you refuse Him?

I do not approve of a being who values such an unjust system.

As I have demonstrated that God’s system is not unjust but most loving. It is Satan whom you should pick a bone with. If you don’t believe in either then don’t assume that it is this god that is the problem but realize that man has brought both good and destruction.

As you mentioned the values are what you set in your mind. God calls us to be greater than what is known to man and his fallible reasoning. Go further AntiTheist…reevaluate and digress on this…

What is more frustrating than anything is that most of these arguments from these atheist are false arguments about the Church. I find that we (Catholics) are mostly just correcting false claims about the Church.

Let me know when you find an argument against the Church that has any validity.
Speaking for myself, any claim I made about the Church or its teaching that ended up being wrong, I heard from a Catholic.

However, I don’t believe that my main objections to Christian theology in general or Catholic theology in particular are based on false claims. We just have different takes on the same thing: the atonement, for example. I see it as inherently unjust; apparently, the Church does not.
Thank you again for keeping an open mind. It is the Law that demands the Blood.
He didn’t ask how; he asked who. Who instituted the Law?

Yeah, pretended to be santa and stole all the gifts that the real santa laid out. 😉
And how exactly do you think that someone who’s publicly declaring that there is no Santa Claus is pretending to be Santa?

Yeah, pretended to be santa and stole all the gifts that the real santa laid out. 😉
And let’s not forget that the Grinch had a change of heart, he believed in CHRISTmas again (and no longer was a grinch)!!! 😃
