Proclaiming the bride and not the bridegroom

Separation and division have roots, it went on way before protestantism even was heard of… 😉
To me, protestant theology has sections of truth mixed in sections of rehashed heresies from the first millennium. There might be some new heresies, but I’m not really sure.

So who in the 1st and 2nd century, ECF’s, did not believe in the authority of the church ot the actual presence in the Eucharist?
Irenaeus refers to them as “heretics” who indulge in an invalid Eucharist.
We are to love the bridegroom first, and proclaim Him alone, so we are enabled to love those who makeup the bride.
Jesus is never “alone”. He chose to manifest Himself to the world through His Holy Bride, the Church. It is not necessary to separate them.
Code:
It sure seems that some have lynched a member of the bride who also happens to be Catholic among us. That doesn't seem to be an act to love the bride to me. Love the bridegroom first and we all will be enabled to love the individual members who make-up the bride.

The vast majority of them are old heresies rehashed. Sola Scriptura is an invention of the Reformation, and a whole new string of errors emanates from that one.
No “lynchings” have taken place here, 2nd. That particular member of the bride is claiming to be something she is not. She has been repeatedly confronted about this, and has responded with hostility and rebellion.

I can understand why it may not seem like an act of love to you, because it does not seem to matter to you if a person claiming to be a Christian misrepresents themselves. However, for us to witness this scandal, and say nothing, only makes us part of the scandal.

I have enjoyed my time on Catholic Answers tremendously. I definitely enjoy my Catholic siblings in Christ. I have noticed that many Catholic siblings like to proclaim the bride. However, I believe Scripture reveals that we should be proclaiming the bridegroom instead of the bride. Do you think my assessment is correct?
Of course you are right. But today’s American culture is so feminine in intent that the bridegroom is ignored. Also, look at TV adds - the huband and/or father is always made out to be stupid and dumb, not only to his wife, but to his kids as well. The same with marriage as portrayed in both the movies and TV.

This is just another example of how American Catholics have subverted their faith for secularism in society. It’s rather sad.

Just to test your theory, why don’t you stand up in front of the church congregation this Sunday and proclaim from the top of your lungs, “Jesus Christ is Lord and King!” and see what type of glares you receive.

I hear that alot when people give testimony at church…You ought to hear the shouting after water baptism…Jesus name is lifted high…

That is because in a real church, Jesus calls His neighbors and friends to rejoice along with Him and the hosts of heaven when He finds His lost.

Those that are joined with Christ, rejoice along with Him. For whatever pleases Him also please His children.

The Lost Coin
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, ** she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me**; for I have found the piece which I had lost. **Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. **

The Lost Son
"But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

The Lost Sheep
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that **likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, **more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Are you saying that the Catholic Church is not a “real church” by your standards?

I don’t judge you…

What is it that you are saying then. Does one need to stand in the front of his or her church and shout to the Lord in order to have joy? Is it possible that you have misunderstood what it is to rejoice in the Lord.

I think a reading of the worship in heaven, in Revelation, will reveal that the Catholic Mass is much closer to what happens in heaven than the protestant worship service is.

Did King David misunderstand?

And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

Then it happened as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

Is this the only way to rejoice? Is that the way you do it? Do you dance about in the front of your church?

How about the worship scene in Revelation? It seems to contain much rejoicing.

Was this a prescriptive verse on rejoicing? Is it possible that it simply represents one man’s momentary practice of rejoicing?

Sometimes you rejoice with tears, sometimes in songs of praise, other times through your obedience. But in this case, when He finds one of His lost, He calls His freinds and neighbors to the banqueting table.

“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”

Did you try this, and you got glares? Each Mass opens with “The Lord be with you!” There are no glares - not in my Liturgy. 🤷

Do they still reply “And also with you”. Does it carry any meaning when they say it or is it the same old song and dance you call worship.

Not the mention the Solemnities of Christ the King, Corpus Christi, Holy Trinity, Pentecost, etc. and the devotions to The Most Holy Name of Jesus, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Station of the Cross, etc.

During Advent, we contemplate Jesus’ Incarnation, and prepare ourselves to the Second Coming. During Lent, we contemplate Christ crucified, drawing nearer to Him through self-denials and fasting.

As I said before in my previous post, there’s no blockade or interposing between God and Catholicism.

Do you still end every prayer with. “in Jesus name”? Is it a song and dance, as you call it?

Just because you don’t understand what we do does not mean it has no meaning. Can you tell me why we Catholics use this greeting? Do you know the history of it?

I can tell you precisely why it was done and when it was first started. If you have no knowledge of something it is best not to comment on it.

When the priest greets everyone enthusiastically and gets a “weak” response, sometimes he will lean forward, but his hand behind his ear, and try again. We were visited by one very spiritually on fire priest who got the congregation to “wake up” by practicing about five times, till they finally shook off the doldrums. Sometimes it is necessary to stir up the gift within, and to call upon the soul to “praise the Lord!”.

I think I understand the point you are making about the “same ol song and dance”. I participated in liturgy mindlessly and by rote for years, when my heart was not involved. I think there are many that do that. Now that my Spirit is fanned into flame I arrive in a different frame of mind, and I am able to give my “also with you” with appropriate enthusiasm. 👍
