Mary O’Hara, author of the “My Friend Flicka” series of books, was a convert. 🙂

At the Battle of Fredricksburg during the civil war, a Union officer, maybe a general, watched as the Irish Brigade gathered for absolution just before their famous assault. This officer watched as the Brigade dropped on their knees as if shot and after their blessing went to their formations and did what the Brigade was famous for. This officer decided that he wanted to be part of this and converted. I have not yet found his name in my archives. Any help would be appreciated.
By the way the list of famous converts of the 20th century neglected to publish my name so I will have that corrected as soon as possible ( no less than 20 years).
That is cool.

Here’s one I bet none of y’all knew:

Hank Aaron, baseball player/Hall of Famer/first to beat Babe Ruth’s home run record/Atlanta Braves!:extrahappy:

(I’m a Rangers fan myself. Pray for me.)

Oh, and I just remembered another:

Actor Clarence Gilyard Jr.–he was a co-star on Matlock and Walker, Texas Ranger (played Ranger Trivette).

I think he lives in the Dallas area–I saw him on TV a couple years ago when they did the rosary at the Cotton Bowl; he was one of the leaders.:gopray2:

John Wayne has a thing for hispanic women and culture. The Catholic thing does not surprise me. I met him when I was a kind entering a private club in my country were he owned property.
My now late Dad told me look, he is John Wayne, I had no idea who he was. He owned land in my country.
Thanks for the interesting vignet…what year? What country?

Back at you…I once did a security gig in John Waynes studio trailer overnight. All I was required to do was make sure nobody broke into the trailer. I was told to make myself comfortable and help myself to the “Wild Turkey” that was there for his enjoyement…and mine as it turned out.

One of my favorite current authors, Mary Karr. She describes her conversion in an essay on poetry and prayer in the back of her newest collection of poems, “Sinners Welcome.”

Yes. He is awesome. And Catholic.Of course, those two words are synonymous.
AND Sergeant Joyce Kilmer…Only God can make a tree! AND a prominent rabbi of Rome, back in the 1940’s during or after the Holocaust. Colmcille:thumbsup:

Me.

Kidding ( am not prominent 😛 )

Recently, a Muslim born man named Magdi Allam. He is an author and he was just baptised by the Pope at Easter Vigil past.
SINA! (are you Oriental?) MAGDI ALLAM! That’s the one I was trying to think of. I heard recently on EWTN that the Fatima “story” could be very important in connecting the Islamic and Christian theologies and cultures. I started on p. 4, 4-9-08. EWTN’s Journey Home program is tops! Colmcille:thumbsup:

Panama.
He owned a Island there, Tamborcillo.
John entered a private club with the minister of tourism who has the father of a classmate in my private Jesuit run elementary/high school.
So my father approached them to salute them.
I was in elementary school them so it was the mid seventies.

COOL! Thanks for sharing this about Joyce Kilmer! “Trees” is one of my favorite poems. I converted this year and my family and I have been talking about going to Joyce Kilmer forest this year. We only visited once before when I was a child but for some reason it has always stuck in my mind, maybe now I know why…

dogjoywalk2, (!!!) Neato! On Jeopardy last night there was a clue about a word, neato that rhymed with a certain treaty organization of the western Pacific, Southeast Asia Treaty Organization. They were kind of concurrent in history, in the 1950’s or '60s. Do you know the whole poem? I vaguely remember reading it back in the 60’s, and was recently reminded of it when looking up the usage of the elipsis… in the back of a very good dictionary… they used the poem or part of it as an example in illustrating the ellipsis. Also a neighbor lady, twenty years my senior, gave the poem to me in her handwriting and signed it Shalom… I don’t know whether she is Jewish or Methodist, but she is a great lady in my book. She once sent a reply card to me, calling me Saint Colmcille, Jr.! I’m hooked on nice people! 👍 Colmcille
