I would say anyone who believes in God has not been deceived as to that.

What they have been deceived about is which God stands above all the rest as worthy of belief.

That many scientists are atheist is an unfortunate consequence of a lifetime of working daily in an atmosphere that values only what can be measured and manipulated. These people are intelligent, but lost. Intelligence can be a curse.

Yes, because intelligence is not the same as wisdom.

It was intelligence, not wisdom, that created nuclear weapons.

Actually I did provide an example that pertained only to reason: the convergence of an infinite series to a finite number. In fact, our instincts are ill-equipped to deal with almost anything involving infinity.

Yet our instincts are well equipped to deal with arithmetical objects, as when I instinctively choose to play the lottery! The chances of winning are virtually nil, yet someone wins. The only person who cannot win is the one who refuses to play.

The chances that God does not exist may loom large, yet we instinctively choose to believe, and some will win. The only person who cannot win is the person who refuses to believe.

Not useless. In fact, I would say that instincts are geared mostly toward utility rather than truth.

Not every saying that is useful is true, but every saying that is true is useful.

Christianity is true and useful. It promotes the greater good of the greater number of souls, knowing that some will be lost along the way by refusing the truth and its usefulness in their lives.
