I think I get it now.
Here’s a question though: Do you think our society is beyond being salvaged? I’ve spoken with many, Catholic AND protestant who think we’re permenantly on the decline.
- Marriage is a religious institution, even if you argue that it is not native to Christianity, and the government has NO RIGHT mandating that ANY religion accept this or that, that would be a state religion and history reveals where that will lead. There are already civil unions and domestic partnership unions recognized by the state. Why do they need marriage? This almost seems like an attempt to make war on religion AND morality. I think I get it now.
- I also am learning that I’ve been dealing with a strong sense of uncertainty about the state of our society because I’ve not been willing to stand firm on certain issues, not because I don’t believe in the Church, but because I just couldn’t see that ANY system, in order to work, needs to have a standard. We can’t each person just do whatever we want, even if we don’t directly hurt others, because sooner or later the entire social system becomes an equalibrium that depends on itself, such as in a time of war, and when the various parts of that society are unreliable for the resources needed at that time, it will eventually fail.
