What is the best way to stop illegal aliens from coming into this country for work? Prosecute those who hire these people.
For many decades, many American businesses have knowingly hired illegal aliens for the sake of finding cheap labor.

In my state it is illegal to hire illegal aliens and I think it is illegal in other states too.

It’s technically illegal but too often the government doesn’t enforce the laws, that’s the whole problem.

Including Donald Trump which he publicly admitted but tried to justify it by saying he could not find Americans who wanted to fill the jobs!

“The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin.” (CCC 2241)

There seems to be be over 12 million illegal immigrants living in the US. It would not be right to deport everyone. Perhaps an amnesty every few years to allow them to become legal rather than prosecuting employers.

But Americans love their cheap produce! And their inexpensive houses! As long as everyone’s pocketbooks keep benefitting from undocumented labor, I just can’t see how there would be any political will to change the situation.

That and the Peace Corp and other charitable associations which help people set up their own businesses and infrastructure to encourage economic growth in developing countries.

This way people don’t have to uproot their whole life and leave friends and family to immigrate when they can do well in their own countries.

A huge current problem is that if they have legal-looking papers, employers are not allowed to “discriminate” against them, even if previously they had worked for the company with a totally different set of papers under a different name.

Seriously.

That is what we have been doing, six times since the 1980s.

The problem is that that encourages people to be here illegally, under the belief that there will be another amnesty.

That is why we have to get the border under control first.

That is why so many are coming here now–because they see we might be getting serious about border control.

How so, Annie?
How is discovering something fake “ discriminating”?
Can t somebody just hire sb else in that case?
What elements does a person under fake ID have to dispute anything legally ?
I am asking not doubting you( well, I sound rather inquisitive I guess 😁)

Here’s a long article that does go into this issue a bit: Redirect Notice

From the article: What’s more, he said that an employer who suspects a job applicant is an illegal immigrant but can’t prove it and doesn’t hire the person for that reason risks a lawsuit for discriminating against someone on the basis of their national origin.

I couldn’t find the article on the subject I originally read.

I get what they are saying in the article and what may “ border” with discrimination now.
I was thinking more of that case you mentioned when sb presents two different set of papers and dox.
Good article.
Thanks a lot, Annie.
And have a good night!🌙

“Fighting” illegal immigration makes for great politics as is on display right now. It does not matter what sort of barrier is built along our boarder. The absolute reality is that illegal immigrants make up a huge portion of our menial job economy. I’m sorry, but as a near rule in my experience, Latino workers (legal or not) bust their butts with gusto in ways no “native” American would.

We need to come to terms with 3 situations. We admit that illegal immigrants are of use in our economy minding that they are also tax payers either through “legitimate” W-2 pay or last least payers of sales tax. Alternatively we implement a visa system that allows people to come here to perform menial work. Or even better, American citizens step up and take the jobs these immigrants are taking.

There are visa programs that bring up workers for agriculture and similar jobs. Those programs should be expanded. Most people that get the visas are only able to get them after it is shown that Americans were unwilling or unable to do the jobs.

If you go to the state unemployment office you can see lists of jobs being offered that will eventually be filled by visa recipients. The jobs are open and offered, often with housing and transportation provided. Knowing these jobs go unfilled for months at a time, I don’t see why they can’t just be offered to the visa recipients first. It would save the farmers from hiring illegal immigrants to fill the jobs while they attempt to show they can’t find workers in order to get approved to bring up workers legally.

Several years ago I had a farmer we worked for tell us how frustrated he was that he would hire people that would quit an hour into the day, or show up several hours late, or work a few days and never come back just to prove he needed H2A workers. He even has a crew of workers that came every year for 9 months at a time, but each year he had to go through the same process to get the there.

I am Mexican American so do not accuse me of racism… If Millions of illegal Latinos were instantly made americn citizens do you think they would all consider themselves Americans? NO! The majority would not have this country’s best interest at heart. They would vote in more Democrats who would make it easier to be here illegally.

If someone is coming here because they are in danger of death in their home country… Good, I would too. That would trump all else. But we can’t make sweeping laws for all based on the most extreme circumstances. Most Mexicans are coming here just for economic reasons. Why shouldn’t they wait in line like my in laws did to come here? They waited 10 years! How is it fair to them that others get to cut?

The system needs reform, not to reward illegal behavior.

We tried amnesty during the Ronald Reagan years.
Since that time, the problem has continued because American businesses want cheap labor.
If these companies were prosecuted and fined, the hiring of non-Americans would stop.
Then double minimum wage and will those positions with Americans in need of work.

You’re right about this.

Employers can’t question facially valid ID even if they know for sure the individual isn’t the one on the ID. If “Juan” gets deported and comes right back to the same employer as “Jose” and if the “Jose” ID looks valid, the employer can’t refuse to hire him back just because he knows for certain he’s “Juan” and he knows for sure “Juan” was deported as an illegal alien.

Not surprisingly, there is a very big trade in the ID of Hispanic young men and the legal ones have to guard it more than others do. All fake ID is based on somebody’s real ID.

It’s real, but not absolute. Around here, most illegals work in industry at industrial wages.
