Protestant Christians: Are you afraid of Mary?

WHY, WHY! am I getting involved with this thread?!!!:banghead:

As well you should be, but, you should be grateful for Mary because without her, we would not have had our Saviour Christ. If God didn’t set her apart from the beginning of time (Gen 3:15), if she didn’t say, “Yes” to God, then Christ would not have been crucified to later be ressurected because he would not have been born.

How did Christ came into the world to redeem us them? Did he came through a spaceship? or from a woman? I think you would agree that Jesus came from a woman.

So you aren’t grateful that Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ? I’m glad Gabriel greeted Mary, and announced to her that she will bear the Son of God.

When this announcement was made, we know right now that the time of the Messiah King is at hand.

Isn’t God able to do everything? It would seem to me that God would have found a different way to bring us our Savior if Mary couldn’t have done it. Just seems to me that this is much more about God than it is Mary. Just my opinion.

He did. He made Mary pregnant when His Spirit overshadowed her.

Mary points us to God. She did say. “My soul magnify the Greatness of the Lord.”
 
I rather like Mary myself. I’m not afraid of her.

You silly Catholics have corrupted me into becoming somewhat obsessed with the Mary and Child pictures. 😃

It’s very meaningful to me as a mother now. :love:

Of course you are. We all are grateful for His Mercy and Grace.

Let me ask you this: Should the Jews of the OT be grateful to Moses for leading them out of slavery? He was doing what God told him to do, but he still had the courage to obey God.

Should we be grateful to Moses for writing those books in the Old Testament?

If the answer is yes to either of these, then surely, you can see that whatever merit these two actions on the part of Moses brought, then it was infinitely small to the merit that was brought to us through the humility and obedience of our sweet, pious, spiritual mother.

I love Mary so very much, and I wish I could impart that to those who see her as less than what she is. If there is one person (besides Jesus Christ) in this world who deserves our thanks, it is Mary.

The next time you pay honor or tribute to any other individual, please compare what they bring you in comparison to her. Before we praise any person, let us first look to Christ; but after Him … Mary.

It just seems to me that so many are fanatics about Mary and why? Our focus should be on Christ shouldn’t it. If Mary points the way to God, then thank you Mary would be sufficient. Isn’t Jesus the only one who can save us?

Of course Jesus is the only one who can save us. We as Christians should he thankful for Mary for what she has done as part of salvation history.
 
I’m not sure I understand why her husband, Joseph, doesn’t get equal attention. Were it not for him, she would have likely been stoned, and again, no savior.

I agree, but thankfulness doesn’t equate so much valuable attention to her instead of God. I would be very afraid of spending too much time thanking Mary instead of thanking Jesus for his sacrifice on the cross for us. Again, not a knock on Mary, but also putting Mary in her proper place and of course God in his which is our King, our Savior and our God forever and ever.

How are these two things disconnected? Christ’s Incarnation and Death on the Cross and His Resurrection are all a part of the same act. Isn’t Mary a part of the prophesies that foretold this? She is more a part of that infinitely gracious act than anyone else in history (even the apostles). Mary is part of the whole understanding of Christ’s life and Sacrafice.

When I think of Mary, I am focussing on Jesus - the Fruit of her womb. When I think of the manger and the stable, I think of Christ’s wonderful act of humility - to lower Himself to our level in order to redeem us. When I think of the Cross and the Crown of Thorns, I think of Christ’s sacrafice. When I think of Pentecost, I think of Christ’s founding of the Church. All of these things point back to Christ - they help me to understand Christ more fully.

If someone says, “I would be very afraid of spending too much time thanking Mary”, then I hear them saying, “Don’t think too much about Christ’s life”. Mary is a key component of Christ’s life here on the Earth - I will never stop honoring her for that.

Why do you want to be dismissive about Mary?

I guess I can’t agree with that. Jesus never taught us to pray to Mary in the Bible.

Would Mary have let Him do that?😃 How would that have sounded for Jesus to tell his disciples to pray to His mother?

Revelation makes references to Mary in chapter 12. Maybe you can check that, as well.

OK. I understand. There are many posts and articles here on CA that I hope you read in regards to prayer - what it is, and what Christ’s Church teaches about it. I’m glad you are here, BrewMax. God Bless you!👍

One more question, though: can we agree that Mary did more for us than any other human being (with the exception of Christ Himself, of course) by willfully participating in Christ’s Incarnation?
