Niether is papal infallibility, indulgences, apostolic succession, perpetual virginity of Mary, assumption of Mary, and so on. It’s just too bad that I’d have you nailed into the floor right now but you can pull out your “Tradition” card. This is the way your Church can avoid all charges of heresy. Just say “hey it’s in our Tradition”.
Do you think that Christianity started 500 years ago? You sure act like it. Before that there was only one Church, the Catholic Church (and the EO after 1054A.D.)…seriously brother, you can’t have your argument taken seriously if you not only ignore, but twist history to fit you own preconceived ideas.

don’t ignore history Brian

St. Athanasius (360AD) - let us note that the very tradition, teaching, and faith of the Catholic Church from the beginning, which the Lord gave, was preached by the Apostles, and was preserved by the Fathers. On this was the Church founded; and if anyone departs from this, he neither is nor any longer ought to be called a Christian… (Four Letters to Serapion of Thmius 1, 28)

Origen (230AD) - “The teaching of the Church has indeed been handed down through an order of succession, from the Apostles, and remains in the Churches even to the present time. That alone is to be believed as truth which is in no way in variance with ecclesiastical and apostolic tradition.” (Fundamental Doctrines 1, preface, 2.)
Just a couple of things.

Let’s look at Origen, where does he define what the teachings of the Chruch are? Everytime you see tradition you can’t automatically assume that Origen had knowledge of the things you believe now. Same thing with Athanasius, where does he define tradition and what it encompasses?

Michael, Michael, Michael. This is getting ridiculous my friend. Can you or can you not provide evidence for what the Apostle taught the Thessalonians? The discussion is not that hard to follow. You are engaging in debate tricks. Show me the evidence!!
And you are being plain rude. Does your church have a teaching on marriage? On what does it base that teaching? Did the apostles have a teaching on marriage? Please answer my questions. You throw out accusations, but fail to directly respond to my questions. Are you afraid of answering? Marriage is a crucial moral issue. Or do you believe in free love?

God Bless,
Michael

or if you prefer:

The purpose of this chronology is to assist Christians of any denomination in their search for knowledge and truth regarding the development of the Christian religion. The primary sources used in assembling this list include a chronology by Paul Harvey, The World Almanac and Book of Facts, the Academic American Encyclopedia (on Compuserve), Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, and The English Versions of the Bible by John Berchmans Dockery O.F.M. Question marks on dates indicate approximate dates, question marks on other information indicates information which is theoretical and/or not universally accepted as fact.

How did the Jews know when someone was married or not? Afterall, they had no infallible body to run to.

The point is that they did not believe in Sola Scriptura.

OK, I will pursue discussion with you no further, just like I had to do for Antonius. It becomes futile after a point 😦 The challenge still remains for any other Catholic besides Antonius or Michael that can provide documented evidence for what the Apostle Paul taught the Thessalonians. Any takers???

Great question Reformed1. And not only the Jews, but every other pagan country that didn’t even have the Scriptures. Of course you will not get a rationale answer. To say they also had divorce makes no sense, because even Christians have divorce per the NT, but that doesn’t count I guess.

And just what does Jesus say about divorce? “It was not so from the begining…”

Thank you! That just proves that you could not face my challenge, gave up, and instead will search for weaker prey. Too bad you won’t find weaker prey. If you won’t directly answer my questions, then I prefer not to waste ink on you. Oh… wait… I ain’t using ink. Well, you know what I mean.

You apparently believe that the Apostles had no teaching on what constitutes a valid marriage that they passed on to the early Christians. So a Christian can just “shack up” or have a “common-law” marriage and it is okay with you.

God Bless,
michael

How did the Jews know what marriage was without an infallible Tradition? However, this also shows what happens when Tradition creeps in. Their divorce was based on Tradition passed down from Moses. Sounds familiar?

They were not allowed to “fornicate” either. How did they distinguish between “marital relations” and fornication?
Good question! Please point out in the Old Testament where God clearly distinguishes between “marital relations” and fornication?

God Bless,
Michael

ROFLOL!!! You should get paid for this. ROFLOL!!!

Matt 23:

Interesting? And that Mosaic Tradition is recorded in Deuteronomy. Last time I checked, that book is in the Bible.

**This is an ad hominem attack. This is on the level of me saying since the Catholic Church indeed executed Protestants, then you apparently cannot wait to jump into the fray and execute me.

Actually, I don’t know what you mean. You have to explicitly spell it out. BTW, I actually know what you mean. I just want you to explicitly state it.**

But your traditions are nowhere found in scripture…or more accurately, some of your traditions are nowhere found in scripture.
