Hi,

I honestly dont know if they do. The bible is completely silent on whether or not they pray for us. I dont know what goes on in heaven–yet:D
Let me ask you this: When you die and go to heaven, do you think you will forget all about your loved ones? Or do you believe that since you are with Jesus your prayers will be more effective than ever since you see him face to face?

Of course not! We could never forget our family, in this life or the next.
I don’t know what Heaven is like so it’s hard to say how things will be once I’m there in person. Right now it’s purely speculation.

Hi,
Honestly, I have never thought about it before. I have no clue. It really doesnt matter to me. I am more concerned about teaching them the gospel and praying for them now so they will be with me in heaven.😃 I think more about what I need to do now(here on earth)to be more Christ-like. I should probably think more about heaven.:o I guess I dont because it is so way beyond my comprehension.😦

so, what will you do when you become more Christ-like? you stop praying for others?

No of course not. I am just trying to live a Godly life. God wants us to live a life worthy of Him. That means to pray for whoever, renew my mind daily by studying God’s Word(bible),love all—I do this by helping people when needed. This is a life long journey and wont stop until I physically die. After that I dont know what happens while in heaven. Well I do know some things but not about praying for the Saints still on earth.

Amen! I am totally agreed with you, and that is exactly the same thing with the holy Saints in Heaven - they are able to see God face to face, they are now more like Christ-like than ever before - Like you, they don’t stop praying when they become Christ like.

Hi,

What I should have said is there are no passages in the bible that say we should pray to any saint. The only person we are told **to pray to **is God through Jesus. There are passages that say we can pray for saints(on earth) but, there are no passages that say it would help us to pray to the ones in heaven already.
I hope I am being clear.:o
Neither are there any passages that explicitly or implicitly forbid it. What is forbidden is the worship of false gods; no Catholic I know of, nor any Catholic teaching for that matter, ever said that the saints are gods.

so, it is perfectly to say that not only the Catholics pray directly to God but they have those who are in Heaven pray for us. Of course, we also have our friends and family living on earth pray for us too.

I don’t know why non-catholics simply take those holy Saints out of their lives.

Agreed:thumbsup:

Hi,

I really dont have a problem with it. I think the reason we dont do it is because the bible is silent and as you know Im of the bible only theology.😃

The problem with Bible only theology is that Bible only Christians is that they can’t agree on what the Bible teaches.

I recently came across a book about Blessed Miguel Pro, a Mexican priest who was executed by his government because of his faith (his last words before being put to death by firing squad was "Viva Christo Rey!"- “Long Live Christ the King!”). Before he died he told his friends that he believed martyrdom would be his key to Heaven, and if he were allowed this favor, then his friends should get their petitions ready, because he would deal out favors like a deck of cards! 😃

This is what I love about the Catholic faith- we are surrounded by a “great cloud” of brothers and sisters in Christ who continue to look out for us as we run our race! :dancing:

The problem is not that the Bible is silent on this, the problem is at non-Catholic interpretation of the Bible. It does mention about prayers of the Saints. If I understand correctly, non-Catholics believe we all are saints; however, in Catholics, we believe Saints are those in Heaven - those who can see God face to face.

Hi there, Dessert. I recommend this book for your husband:

amazon.com/Praying-Rosary-Megan-Mckenna/dp/0385510829/sr=8-1/qid=1168660980/ref=sr_1_1/104-9872786-4599168?ie=UTF8&s=books

It explains everything you need to know about the how and the why of praying the rosary, and is written in a way that would be very accessible to Protestants. The rosary actually is becoming more and more popular among many non-Catholic Christians. When you love Jesus, you honor his mother, and Mary will never let you down. She will always lead you to her Son.

One of the big differences is my belief in honoring Mary and the Saints. He thinks she was just a vessel and that we are all saints inGod’s eyes.
Unfortunately your husband has been infected with the disease of anti-Roman protestatism. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you will be able to do about your husband regarding his thoughts about Mary being merely a vessel. I would simply ask him if he would consider his mother merely a vessel that carried him, imparting nothing physically or having nothing to do with who he became later in life. Theologians from Justin Martyr, St. Augustine on down through Martin Luther (yes I am Lutheran Christian) have reminded us not to abandone common sense when looking at such matters. To think Mary was merely a bag carrying the bread is silly.
As for his belief we should not honor the blessed Virgin Mother, tell him to read Luke 1:42, 48c-49. I for one have no problem honoring one who is specifically blessed by God, one who is “blesesed of women” and will be called “blessed” by all generations. If for nothing else I honor her for her obedience to God’s will, as I honor all the saints in such a way.

Take a look at Jude vs.9,then read Dt.34:5-7.Where did Jude get this story from? Its not in the bible.Jude was relating a story from ancient Jewish tradition.Another ancient Jewish tradition that may help to explain the Catholic understanding of Mary is in the stoy of Bethsheba.1Kings vs.16 shows Bethsheba bowing before King David. Now look at 1Kings2:19.In Jewish “tradition”,the wife of the king is not the queen, the mother of the king is queen. My point is the bible says in 2Thess.2:14 stand firm and hold fast the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter{epistle}.The bible teaches us to trust in the teachings of the church{1Tim.3:15.🙂

🙂 I have an experience to relate to everyone that of course is only mine but it may happen to anyone. I felt an impression to go to payer for about a week before Christmas and so I tried very hard to stay in prayerful thought but beening the holiday it was hard. I felt someone was going to die on Christmas day:eek: this of course freeked me out who my parents my dh who? I’m not anything special so I began to relax abit figuring what ever I prayed would get through. Christmas eve day afternoon I was shopping for the rest of the food stuff and right in front of my eyes this lady has a heart attack in the store, I said Jesus Mary and Joseph and began to earnestly pray to and with and in the name of Jesus and St. Michael and my virgin Mary Mother of God because this women’s soul was on the line and I didn’t know her and she did not regain concienc but I think she would have if she could said thank you for calling uupon the saints. As heaven can seem a very far of place but really they all hear us as if we were Lazurus in the next tomb. the store manager said does anyone know CPR and I did but there was someone already trying and then the paramedic s were there with in a minute which is prabably all that women had left in her life. There was blood coming out of her nose and mouth and it brought me to realize how our last moments can be traumatic. Maybe she was a christian? I don’t know but I think God was trying to show me that it is in the blink of an eye that he can come. And we don’t know! I have no power within myself and it was her time but as Jesus called upon His father we and also saints in heaven as I’m sure Jesus was praying in the garden and he also referred to Abraham and Moses many times in scripture so just because they are IN HEAVEN doesn’t mean they can’t hear us on earth.dessert

Hello dessert,

I had a similar experience as you did. I had a dream about visiting someone and that person died. When I woke up, I prayed and asked God if He really wanted to go and visit the person and pray for her. I finally decided to go to visit her. Two days later, she passed away.

When she was about to die, our prayer of the Chaplet Divine Mercy really brighten her up - she got a great peace until the last minute.
