And here I was thinking that I included Catholics

Point is. You may not like the answer. But it is

“Depending who you ask”.

End point.

Thank you!

I took a look at the CARM forums and these people are soooooooooo hostile toward Catholics. I knew anti-Catholicism existed but these people are just so rude.
I never even knew about this forum.

They seem to be a bit more “explicit” compared to the “subtle” nature here on CAF. To be honest I think the Catholics on here are just the same just in a more subtle way! (For the lack of a better word than subtle!)

Very elusive answer. You are not making your case as to how/where confusion within Christianity is cleared up, for someone who might be searching these threads.

So based on your answer above, anyone reading your answer can justify what they read on CARM as truth. Do you think CARM speaks for all of truth of Christianity? Do you think absolute truth cannot be attained? It seems you either think this or you are afraid of clearifying where this truth can be found so you are not held accountable to your answer. Do you give these elusive answers to people you run into on the street?

Peace!!!

How do we know that our Faith is the first Christian Church and really does go back to Jesus Himself, and St.Peter?
How do we know that George Washington was the first President of the United States?

How do we know that King Henry VIII married Catherine of Aragon?

At some point we simply have to trust the history.

Oh yes. Catholics on here just say things is a less forward way.

To be honest. I would probably get bored on CARM. (My opinion) they are pretty much the same as here from the other angle. (Don’t share that… shhhhhh).

Beyond that I have no idea what your point was. It seems I was afraid of certain things but that is okay. Where were those again? And the relevance when you decide to poste?

One can also ask if CAF speaks for all truth?

And those who are searching. No it does not!

Above aĺl else. Read your Bible, go to Mass and go to Confession.

Hope, different history books will give different answers on the question of killing Catholics or Protestants. The hard part is determining whether the killings were religiously motivated or political and determining if the Popes were involved can be almost impossible. Some killings MAY have been motivated by what someone thought the Pope would want without the Pope’s knowledge. Is that His fault? History is messy and we often can’t answer the question we really want to ask.

Does that help?

Also, how do we know that Catholic Tradition is correct over posters on CARM’s oft repeated line, “it’s not in the Bible?”

How do they know which books even belong in the bible?

Where does it say in the bible which books belong in it?

I just googled Pope Alexander lll and Pope Innocent lll and the Carthar Crusade. Not only did Pope Alexander declare a crusade against the Cathars, he also granted two years indulgence to all who would take up arms against the Cathars and eternal salvation for any killed in the battle. In 1208 Pope Innocent in addition also granted the lands and possessions of the heretics to any who would take up arms against the Cathars. Interestingly enough, just like some people hid and protected the Jews in WWIl, some Catholics helped and hid the Cathars and the whole town of Beziers was slaughtered by the crusaders when they could not distinguish Catholic from Cathar. It is believed that slaughter there were approximately 250 Cathars and between 10 and 20,000 citizens, men, women and children, all slaughtered. Was the Pope informed? He apparently started one letter to the front lines with: “Praise and thanks to the Lord for that which He hath wrought through thee…against His most penitential enemies.”

History is messy and we often can’t answer the question we really want to ask. But when an answer is documented it may not be want we want to believe.
