The whore is Jerusalem because for one she rejected her Messiah. Jesus lamented for Jerusalem. How do we know that the whore is Jerusalem.

Read this passage, Revelation 11:8
“Their corpses will lie in the main street of the great city, which has the symbolic names ‘Sodom’ and ‘Egypt,’ where indeed their Lord was crucified.”

Where was the Lord crucified? Jerusalem, not Rome.
Well… if you understand that Israel is still under the Abrahamic covenant with God, then it would be impossible for it to be Israel. God promised Abraham land, nation of people, and a king. That will happen when Jesus returns in the 2nd coming.

It’s a matter of semantics,
The inscription is on one of the Pope’s triple tiara (crowns or miters). It says “VICARIVS FILII DEI”, which means “Vicor of Son of God”. Since in Latin, D=500, C=100, L=50, V=5, and I=1, adding the letters which stand for numbers in the title will add up to 666. The description in the Bible that the beast has “horns of a lamb” suggests that the beast will be of “devine” descendence

Only according to non-Catholic teachers who assert that they have it all figured out.

Even then they don’t all agree. And all of their propaganda is supposedly truth based on the Bible, but I sure can’t tell.

Jerusalem has 7 Hills too.

1.) Mount Gared; 2.) Mount Goath; 3.) Mount Acra; 4.) Mount Bezetha; 5.) Mount Moriah; 6.) Mount Ophel; 7.) Mount Zion.

It still is under Abrahamic and Mosaic law due to the hardening of their heart by God’s will until the fulfillment of the Gentiles. (Romans 11 I believe) Do you remember when John is measuring the temple in Revelations. Jesus told him not to measure the courtyard for that is reserved for the gentiles.

Actually that translation is wrong

It means Vicarius Filii Dei (Latin: Vicar or Representative of the Son of God).

If you want to challenge that shawn, check this cite.

That claim is also refuted:

Yeah right… Too bad that there is clear and powerful refutation of that with FACTS.
Hate it for ya!

Wikipedia is about as factually reliable as writing on a restroom stall.

Like I said before…IF you’re really a Catholic, you are all messed up. If you’re a ringer…then even then you’re not a very good one.
Medieval Sourcebook: The Donation of Constantine (c.750-800)
This is perhaps the most famous forgery in history. For centuries, until Lorenzo Valla proved it was forgery during the Renaissance it provied the basis for papal territorial and jurisdictional claims in Italy. Probably at least a first draft of it was made shortly after the middle of the eighth century in order to assist Pope Stephen II in his negotiations with the Frankish Mayor of the Palace, Pepin the Short. The Pope crossed the Alps to anoint the latter as king in 754, thereby enabling, the Carolingian family, to which Pepin belonged, to supplant the old Merovingian royal line which had become decadent and powerless and to become in law as well as in fact rulers of the Franks. In return, Pepin seems to have promised to give to the Pope those lands in Italy which the Lombards had taken from Byzantium. The promise was fulfilled in 756. Constantine’s alleged gift made it possible to interpret Pepin’s grant not as a benefaction but as a restoration.

And I reject these three things that Luther believed.
Why? Luther is the father of “sola Scriptura” and he didn’t have a problem with the Marian doctrines.
**This doesn’t fly. One could say while they’re alive that the evidence of their life proves that they will go to heaven but your very beliefs forbid this. If you can’t know yourself if you are going to go to heaven, you absolutely most definitely most certainly cannot know that anyone else who has died has indeed gone to heaven. The fact that you believe they have went straight to heaven means that you believe we get to heaven on our own merits. 'tis not the case. **
Couple of points here. We believe that although we cannot know de fide – which is a technical term meaning with the same level of assurance that we can believe in the Resurrection or the authority of Scripture, for example – during our own lifetimes that we will be among the blessed, we *can *have great assurance of it through his love and mercy; after all, he came to save the world, not to condemn the world, didn’t he?

We do not believe that the Saints necessarily went straight to heaven. We know that “nothing unclean” can enter the heavenly city. If even the slightest attachment to even venial sin lies on the conscience of a person at his death, it needs to be purified before he can enter the gates.

At the Great Commission in Mt. 28, the Church received a mission to teach and by her teaching authority, she does have the ability to discern whether certain people are standing before the throne of God. We know there is a multitude more than can be numbered. So it is possible to discern the case in certain conspicuous cases. We also believe that most of the souls in heaven, who are also Saints, are unknown to us by name. They are people like my dad or your grandmother, ordinary people whom the Lord has called to himself.
Fair enough. I don’t agree with you but it’s not something I believe people should divide over. However, the phrase “in the presence of the Lord” is not my phrase. It’s straight out of Scripture. I don’t believe it lied.
I put quotes around your citation of “in the presence of the Lord” because the phrase appears in my Bible only with respect to Hannah’s offering of Samuel to Eli and had nothing to do with our subject.

As for not dividing over the Saints – they should be a source of charity for us who still struggle. And indeed, they are, both by the inspiration of their exemplary lives, and by the seraphic charity in which they now do what they do best: intercede for us on the altar of the Lamb.

Continue to apply the rest of the signs. If they all don’t fit, it can’t be then. Jerusalem is the home of God’s chosen people.

What did the book of Revelation say?
“where indeed their Lord was crucified.”

So… you still wanna argue that?

BTW Manny “Pwned” is "leet for “You just owned him.” 👍

Yes, but that’s not the only criteria.
If you claim that the harlot is Rome? Read Rev 11:8

and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is allegorically called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.

Jesus was not crucified in Rome. Jesus died in Jerusalem. The claim that Vatican is the harlot is sadly misinterpret.

the harlot is clearly identified as a city, not a Church. Catholics are often accused of “adding” to the Bible…well, here is a perfect example of adding to the Bible. The harlot of Babylon is a city. Nowhere does the Bible say it is a church. Do these folks take the Bible literally, or not?

Well… I’m not accusing the Vatican City of being the Harlot. It’s just a remarkable fit from the description given in Revelation.

I thought the Bible was your sole infallible authority?

That’s what the Word of God says, to hold any other belief is straight up unscriptural isn’t it?

The book of Revelation is different than the rest of the Bible. We are to figure this out with the clues given. We’re not told what it is. I have my interpretation and you obviously have yours.

If you are Catholic, I am Marie of Romania.
The:D Grand Duchess of Belalugosi here!!
What is the possiblity that all these signs can fit more than one city? That’s the issue, everything fits Rome. My 1902 Bible (purchased to see if the actual name Israel appeared in it and it did) and Bible commentaries all mention the same exact city. It definitely cannot be Jerusalem for God put his name there, not to mention it doesn’t sit on seven hills. If you were to take all the cities in the world, past and present, add them together, and raise it to the power of how many signs, the number would be 1 in how many billions or trillions?
Jerusalem is built on 7 hills…You know how some of the Psalms are called “Songs of Ascent”?? That’s because they were written to be sung by the Jewish people as they climbed the roads into the city of Jerusalm. That despite the hard climb, they were happy to be going to the Temple. (NO doubt 🙂 Mary & Joseph taught those same songs to the young Jesus!!_

Oh, and we had a list of at least 20 cities built on 7 hills, here on the forums. I think they got lost in the Great Crash…But I know that San Francisco is on 7 hills…You know, San Francisco? In California in the US of A??
Good candidate right there. My Baptist preacher ancestors thought that was the city. Specially after the earthquake & fire. So did a lot of other people.
The Vatican, on the other hand, is not on any of the 7 hills of Rome. It’s not only not in Rome, it’s not in Italy; it’s a:) country!! (I make rosaries. Papal colors are very popular. Yellow or gold with white.)

That’s bunk…If the Word of God plainly states something then it is not open to our personal interpretation but needs to be taken as given.

You can believe this trash if you wish, but you do so at the sacrifice of plainly stated truth.

Your type of exegesis is one of the main reasons that I am glad to be Catholic and will never return to the n-C churches.

Out of one side of your mouth you tell us that you are Bible only Christians and then when the Word of God says something that proves your beliefs to be wrong, you make up some twisted interpretation to fit it.

Like St. Peter said, “There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.” (2nd Peter 3:16)

No thank you.

👋 Sir? Sir?
Please, sir, show an old lady the chapter & verse in that Bible you keep throwing around where it says, “The Book of Revelations is different from all the rest. You have to figure it out!”…
'Cause I have got a:yup: lotta Bibles, & I :nope: never read it anywhere.

Zooey, I am so glad you are here. It saves us Catholics so much time trying to explain that even most Protestants don’t buy a lot of the stuff people try to “blame” on the Catholic Church!

THANK YOU!

P.S. Why are we all up at this hour? And if we’re up, why are we doing this instead of praying?

Night now.
