If you do not personally reject Christ’s Church, knowing that the Church is the Church established by Christ. “He who hears you hears Me, and He who rejects you rejects Me.” Christ to the early Church.

Also remember that a person becomes a Christian through Baptism. Acts2:41

St. Paul himself was not exempt for the requirement of Baptism. Acts 9:10-19

I believe that any one that believes that they recieve salvation by anything other way than faith in Jesus Christ (including baptism, or church membership) is not truly saved.

Proud to be Baptist

The Catholic Church has never taught that one is “saved” by baptism. the Church teaches, infallibly, that one “becomes a Christian” at baptism and from that time forward is a child of God, the Father.
It is important to note that Baptism does not equate to Salvation!
There will be Christians in hell. Any baptised person (Christian) who rejects Christ: who refuses to obey Christ: who rejects his Church , will be a Christian who ends up in hell!
This is hard for many to hear; but is an infallible truth.
If you choose to reject the teachings and commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ, make sure you understand well what you are rejecting. Make sure you are not just making a choice based on emotion or convienience. Your very soul depends on it!

hello allischalmers,

long time… happy new year to you and yours.

I am happy to see you add the qualifier “I believe that…” because I would hate to think that someone else might think that you are setting forward biblical teaching in its fullest.

James 2:14-17, 26: “What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead…For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead.”

The part that I have highlighted in the above quote is the key, I think, to rciadan’s response (pardon me, rciadan, for throwing in my 2 cents). We all will be judged by our hearts by the Father that created us. Jesus called Him, “ABBA!!!,” 'daddy!"

I’m confused, weichien. You say you’re Protestant but you’re from the smallest country in the world, which is the Vatican.

Very interesting!

Have a look at what the Catechism says about what “the Church” is. You’ll find it here.

A Christian becomes a Christian through the Sacrament of Baptism, therefore Protestants are indeed Christians, according to the Council of Trent that declared that the Baptisms done by the Protestants are indeed valid.

A Christian will lose Salvation if they commit Mortal Sin after Baptism. Unknowingly following heresy is not a mortal sin, particularly when you have been raised that way and taught it is the truth.

The only way back after commiting Mortal Sin is through the Sacrament of Confession unless however if you are sorry for the sin truly for the love of God, and not simply for the fear of going to hell and have no way of getting to or going to confession.

Now you, as Protestant, are you absolutely sure that every time you committed Mortal Sin, and you repented, that your repentance was based solely on love for God and having offended Him?

Your Catholic friends need to discern when speaking such blanket statements. It boils down to this. Do you believe that God sent His Son to take on our humanity, proclaim the Kingdom, suffer, and die for our sins? Yes? Good. Do you believe that He rose from the dead? Yes? Good. Do you believe that while He was ascending He was leaving behind the Church that was to carry on His mission? Maybe? O.K. Do you believe that that mission should be united in teachings and doctrines? No. OOPs!

There is only one Jesus the only Gospel of the Father. While contemporary Christianity “seems” to worship God appropriately, it is not the Way that Christ taught us. I won’t go into detail for the sake of brevity, but if you look at early Christianity, they worshipped at Mass. It’s the true worship to the Father, through the Son in the Spirit.

In summary, there are many reasons why many reject the Eucharist, liturgical worship, and the sacramental life of the Church. There is ONE Jesus and He has ONE Church which is the Catholic Church. Many say that this sounds arrogant but they told that to Jesus many times too. Jesus says in John 14:6 " I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" That seems arrogant also. There is one Way, one Truth, and one eternal Life. Don’t leave any stone unturned when seeking the true Church of Jesus Christ. While your soul depends on this, ultimately it is God who judges who is saved and who is not. It’s not your Catholic friends, priests, protestant friends or EVEN yourself. Only God…🙂

sorry i am from the smallest country in Asia.
typo error.
When you read the many posts you will see that there is no need to apologize for a typo. Where you are from is irrelevant to your question however there were those who pick up on small details and want to comment like it was pertinent. Thanks for clarifying. We all have a sense of humor…🙂 God Bless You

Many Protestant churches have great songs, wonderful people, and terrific ways of reaching out to others and making them feel welcome. This is great it really helps people in their relationship with God.

I agree with you we should all be a big family, and there is the problem. Protestants don’t do this, they might say it but they do not unite with the Catholic Church, which is not really doing what Jesus asked.

Would you think it is a problem if a husband and wife say they are married, but live with other men\women. So they are not professing unity, they are still remaining and excluding themselves from the Church.

Ask your pastor this question
“why don’t we all become Catholic, wouldn’t it be doing God’s will, that we all be one?”
What will happen, will he want to do it?

Everything that you hold dear,
Jesus died for us,
Catholics believe that too that is where the belief comes from.
Love of Jesus
Catholics believe that too that is where the belief comes from.
Love of Neighbor
Catholics believe that too that is where the belief comes from.
Love of Virtue
Catholics believe that too that is where the belief comes from.
etc…

You might be turned off by bad Catholics, but look at the ones who live the life that the Catholic Church teaches, not the ones who say they do and don’t do it.

Now if you know that the Catholic Church is the Church Jesus founded and you reject it, are you really doing God’s will or your will.
(this is what your friends might mean, you probably do not know enough about the Catholic Church yet for this to make sense)
Welcome to the forums and keep asking questions. 🙂

Correction, everyon *baptized into the Trinity *is a Christian. A baptized person is called to continuing conversion, faith working in love, and to keep the Commandments Christ set down for us.
but some catholic friends of mine they believe that protestant will not enter heaven so do some priest that i have read of.
No one is definitely going to heaven, and no one is definitely gonig to hell.

God will judge each person according to what he or she knows, and according to what he or she does.
they say that protestant are doing the wrong ways and we are not really a christian and they are very negative about the ways of some pentecostal protestant church which is the largest church in my country. because of the contemporary way of worshiping God.
There is nothing wrong per se with a contemporary worship style, and there are Catholics who worship in a charismatic style.
they are often criticizing in all ways.
It is a shame that they choose to express their concerns through criticism instead of in a loving way.

No, we are not called to just be “a big family” we are called to be something much more specific.

We are called to be ONE body-- with one faith and one doctrine-- and we are not one body because people throughout time have chosen to splinter off of the Catholic church and form their own denominations. These denominations are not God’s plan for the Church.
my main point is do catholic believe in Protestant’s ways of teaching and agree with it.
No, Catholics do not agree with those teachings of protestant denominations that conflict with the truths of the Catholic church. That is not the same thing as worship style. Worship style can vary greatly at different times and places. Doctrine is a different matter. A Catholic cannot agree with what they know to be false.

.
When people splinter off over clear differences in doctrine… are they essentially saying “NO!” to both God and the Church?

In a smaller way, is that like when we say “no” to God when we sin?

Hello weichien,

Do you accept or reject Jesus teachings on what we must do to go to heaven.

Many Protestants follow Martin Luther’s “opposition” to Jesus teaching on what we must do to go to heaven. Jesus teaches that to be His follower one must put faith and belief in Him by obeying His teaching. Catholics put faith and belief in Jesus by accepting Jesus’ teachings, “If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” while most Protestants reject and oppose Christ’s teaching to obey the commandments if we wish to enter into life.

Protestants rejecting and opposing Jesus teachings on what to do to go to heaven puts a great division between them and Catholics who do believe in Jesus by believing in His teachings as Jesus tells us to do.

NAB JOH 12:44

Jesus proclaimed aloud: "Whoever puts faith in me believes not so much in me as in him who sent me; and whoever looks on me is seeing him who sent me. I have come to the world as its light, to keep anyone who **believes **in me from remaining in the dark. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I am not the one to condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save it. Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words already has his judge, namely, the word I have spoken it is that which will condemn him on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own; no, the Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to speak. Since I know that his commandment means eternal life, whatever I say is spoken just as he instructed me.“Martin Luther****The doctrine of our opponents is similar to that of the false apostles in Paul’s day.Our opponents teach, "If you want to live unto God, you must live after the Law, **for it is written, Do this and thou shalt live.”**Quoted from Project Wittenberg, Commentary on the Epistle to the Galatians, (1535) by Martin Luther, Chapter 2 v 19iclnet.org/pub/resources/text/wittenberg/luther/gal/web/gal2-17.html

**NAB MAT **19:16"Teacher, what good must I do to possess everlasting life?" He answered, “Why do you question me about what is good? There is One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

NAB DEU 30:15 The Choice before Israel.“Here then, I have today set before you life and prosperity, death and doom. If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin on you today, loving him, and walking in his ways, and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees, you will live…”

NAB LUK 10:25**“Teacher, what must I do to inherit everlasting life?” Jesus answered him:****“What is written in the law?** How do you read it?”
He replied:**"You shall love the Lord your God ****with all your heart, ****with all your soul, ****with all your strength, ****and with all your mind; **and your neighbor as yourself."

Jesus said,
“You have answered correctly. Do this and you shall live.”
