For the record, sock puppets on CAF are against forum rules. Being that there are thousands of people, world-wide, on this forum there is no logical reason why one needs to have a conversation with oneself.

Protestant versus Catholic. Why does it have to be like this? What does the Church of Rome want to see happen for “unity?”
Please read Mt.7:1-5
We all have one and the same Savior. Jesus Christ, who took our sins to Calvary
Praise His Holy name forever.

God bless you,

For over 20 years I have dealt with protestants who are convinced they are correct–in everything–because the Bible says they are. If truth is only based on what another’s opinion is, than truth itself is a pointless word to use here. I have always known what is not truth, is an error. Where is the problem in that reasoning? Does truth have a shaded area where error meets with it, and creates an “alternative” truth"? I have not been convinced of that yet.

There can be only ONE truth. Catholics believe what they believe because of the teachings of the Church, which uses the Bible and oral traditions that have been handed down by very intelligent doctors and saints in their writings as well.

The whole idea that the term “versus” is used is often disturbingly contradictory, as it seems that one attempts to pit Christ against Himself by such an argument, if that were really possible. Very little argument can be presented against 1500 plus years of the existence of the Catholic Church (which is ONE) in contrast with only about 500 years of protestant thinking, which is embraced by over 33,000 sects, all having a different opinion on everything from obtaining quick salvation , how and where to find Christ, various matters of devotions and prayer or praise techniques and who is really the “Anti-Christ”. It becomes so saturated, that one eventually can only turn to the Catholic Church for a solid answer. It may not be the answer one wants to hear, but it is TRUTH.

I have come to the conclusion that some individuals are unteachable, they deny what is really a proven truth because it is not convenient for them, they rely on their own limited understanding of scripture and what is says (or does not say) and are influenced greatly by too many anti-catholic books and movies to know the difference in what they really believe or refuse to believe at that point. It should never be a matter of picking and choosing to suit our tastes, and this happen in both camps. This truly makes for a confused soup, unless you know the base ingredient of that soup in the first place.

Bottom line: One either accepts what is truth or not—there cannot be a gray area or a compromise, no matter how candied up the word “ecumenical” can be. Opinions can have elements of the truth, but can never be absolute truth themselves. Order is only achieved by unity, and unity means ONE. One can only find the "fullness of Christ in the Catholic Church.

With this reality, apparent now as it always has been, one can only continue to seek the truth, which once found after a great labor, must be preserved in some way or another by constant reminders of how one came to know the truth in the course of time—prayer and study, work and more prayer.

As long as there are separated brethren, there is going to be some level of division. Christ did warn us about this, but we, as Catholics, can do little except pray that the separated brethren will return to the Church. This is the only way there will ever be real unity. If one is going to survive in the wilderness, they need a series of aids that will assist them, not just one book that will give them directions(the scriptures).

The directions are pointless without a compass (the Church), and too many people (who do not know the True Church of Christ) get lost in the trek believing they were on the right road—sooner or later, they discover they were traveling in circles. Christ will always be a guiding light, but one must honestly seek that light first. I admire anyone who even at least does that. The reality is that to many seekers are so busy seeking the truth outside the Church, they fail to see the opportunity to know it when it is right in front of them. A Catholic’s duty is to help them find their way back into the Church and to safety.

Just coming back to this thread today…Protestant vs Catholic, its statement is the acceptance of division which is not the will of Christ.

To get into this thread does not bear any fruit in understanding.

Because for about 500 years now Protestants of various stripes have perpetrated errors into the Christian faith and until they are corrected there will be no unity because there cannot be any such unity without truth. The Catholic Church has opposed those errors since their beginnings and continues to do so.
Pretty much says it all.👍

Hi bluelake, and you are right, we are not to judge one another. But we are told to teach the truth. Jesus build the CC on Rock. He said you are Peter and upon this ROCK I will build MY CHURCH. If you continue reading Matt. it will tell you what happens to the Man who did not build his House on rock. The teachings of Christ were built on Rock. That is why the gates of hates will never prevail.

7:21-23 is an attack on false Prophets. Many who perform works but live evil lives. On the last day the morally corrupt prophets and miracle workers will be rejected by Jesus. That is why we must follow the True Prophets of Christ. Jesus promised us that the RCC would always prevail in its teachings of faith and morals. We must be sure we are led to the fullness of the truth.

While our teachers may fail in sin, our Church never will. Jesus promised us that.

Amen!

The focus for a Catholic should alway be on Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church.

It is so easy to get our eyes off the Lord and focus too much on the people around us, or have entrustment relationships with the clergy. The Word of God tells us over and over again to not put our trust in men.

To keep our eyes on the Lord with all the help the Church gives us in understanding Him and being nurtured in Him, and drawing on the saints, including Mary, are great blessings as well.

True faith is always marked by certitude.

The envelope analogy was yours, not mine. And it is quite possible that Mary didn’t understand exactly who Jesus was either, at the very beginning. No one did, or they wouldn’t have been so totally surprised when He died. I don’t have time at the moment, but I’ll probably be back later…
Huh? What about the angel Gabriel? Remember when the angel told her she was to be the Mother of God. Then remember when she said Luke 1:38 Let it be done to me according to your will!!

I would say thats pretty much proof that she knew exactly who Jesus was!!😃

Hi 101 It should not be this way Jesus gave us a means to follow Him<“If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

The triumph of Jesus is in the cross, as He demonstrated in His humanity; He did not want this, He asked that the cup be lifted from Him, but said not my will but yours.

We must encounter Jesus the way he wants not what we want. We must conform to Him not Him to us. Jesus wants us to encounter truth that is not subject to our belief, but to truth. Truth never changes! Unity is in Truth ! Thats the bottom line !

God Bless:coffee:

I don’t see the words “mother of God” in the interaction with the angel in Luke 1. I see “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” It was Elisabeth that called her “the mother of my Lord,” not the angel… (bear in mind that a lot of people are called “my lord” by various people throughout the Bible) And why did she do so much “pondering” later if she knew it all from the beginning? I think it’s well within reason (and scripture) to believe that Mary might not have understood everything right away.

No, but we do see it at the beginning of the Gospel of John: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” Before His incarnation, Christ was God. He was God at the time of His incarnation, and at the time he was born. Chrsit was fully God, hence, the Blessed Virgin gave birth to the second person of the Trinity - God.

Hi,Whole Heart ! Indeed and amazingly, Gabriel, as a messenger of God, calls her full of grace, I might add the Gospels are the words of God, including Elizabeth"s greeting as the babe jumped in her womb. I also might suggest, if you were Jesus parent you might do a little pondering also. The wedding feast at Cana gives us a hint also, as she merrily goes on her way and tells the steward, to do whatever He tells you.

God Bless

tartini,
Do you believe only those who embrace the Catholic doctrine are saved or do you think other Christians are saved as well?
As Christians we all have the one and same Savior, Jesus Christ.
That is why I would never judge your salvation .
The Bible tells God shows no favortism. Rom.2:11

Great passage, one of my favorites. :"

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’ Heb.13:8

Also, Jesus tells us in Jn.8:58 "I tell you the truth, Jesus answered, "Before Abraham was born, I am!

God bless you,

Right, we have access to the Gospel of John. We know that Jesus is God. The Gospel of John had not been written at that time, so quoting it doesn’t support the idea that Mary must have known everything in it.

You know, I think I might be confusing this thread with a different one… Wasn’t it in this one that somebody was saying how disrespectful I was for saying that Mary might not have understood the whole thing from the beginning? Though, I don’t think that has much to do with the original topic in the first place…

Amen to that bluelake. And remember what Jesus also said, when he was to send the third person of the Trinity. Another great passage.

John 14:16. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you ANOTHER ADVOCATE to be with you ALWAYS. THE SPRIIT of TRUTH which the world cannot accept because it neither sees it nor knows it. But YOU know it because it remains WITH you and will be IN you. I will not leave you Orphans. I will come to you.

That is the Holy Spirit that is leading us today.

John 14:26 The ADVOCATE the HOLY SPIRIT that the Father WILL SEND IN MY NAME he will TEACH you EVERYTHING, and REMIND YOU of ALL that I told you.

Protestant versus Catholic. Why does it have to be like this? What does the Church of Rome want to see happen for “unity?”
We as christians do have unity because of the fact we all love Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Our problem is that as humans we have different methods of worship.
Our doctrines may differ, but the Lord knows our heart.
Jesus commanded us to love one another. Mt.22:36-40
In fact Jesus calls this “The Greatst Commandment”
All Christian churches teach about the love of Jesus Christ.
Some doctrines are difficult to understand , but I refuse to judge another persons salvation.
God doesn’t need my help. 🙂

Oneness Pentcostals teach that speaking in tongues is required to be saved. Can you imagine,
How can they teach that they are the only Believers that will be saved???
I could go on, but , it really isn’t nice to judge others.
Lets pray instead. 🙂 ( Unity)

God bless,
bluelake
