My husband used to, but I don’t know which ones.
Most protestants think Catholics are some kind of non Christian cult or the “whore of babylon”.john macarthur is pretty anti-catholic (not in an insulting sort of way, but he is vocal in that he thinks the catholics have it wrong… really wrong) so i don’t think he’d be a good one for catholics to listen to.
Yeah that post in your link is a perfect example of what most protestants think of Catholics.MacArthur has said some lies. He says Catholics worship saints. He said relics are unbiblical. And a whole lot more…you can hear that here…
Despite his irrational animosity toward Catholics, I listen to him almost every day. In the last week he’s been talking about how to interpret Scripture, and he uses outside resources very much, tries to learn the historical context surrounding verses, or uses a concordance to find duplicate uses of certain words. He doesn’t apply it all the time, but the idea he was advancing is good practice.
Roman Catholicism does not worship saints. Many Roman Catholics do worship saints.
They are.
I see. So then, anybody who has a legitimate theological disagreement with Roman Catholics has “irrational animosity”?
I guess that would include me.
I’m curious: do you also believe that Roman Catholic lies about Protestants and Baptists mean that Roman Catholics have an “irrational animosity” toward us? (Of course you don’t.)
Exactly. Venerating saints is no different than people who venerate John F Kennedy or Malcom X or Martin Luther King, or the founding fathers or anyone else that many protestants may have pictures, as well as statues of in their homes etc. Catholics do this for saints.okay, i’m a protestant and i know this isn’t true. there is a difference between worship (reserved for God alone) and veneration (a deep, deep respect and love that compels us to honor some one). protestants venerate people all the time. it sounds as if you venerate macarthur.
easy one:
Acts 19:11-12
sounds like relics to me. how many charismatic preachers go on television and hock their handkerchiefs and special oils for healing… it’s the same thing.
- 11God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, 12so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. *
he is considered that by some. he does do a good job of study and teaching it’s just that his conclusions aren’t always correct but he treats them as if they are “God’s truth”. he does not have the gift of infallibility (i’m not saying the pope does either). macarthur’s biblical conclusions are not new, he simply builds on other’s work (which is not a bad thing) but he tends to neglect (just as many… not all as some on these boards try to suggest… but many protestants do) early church writings. he stops his early Christian history with the book of Acts and doesn’t pick up again until Luther (a bit of an exaggeration on my part but the concept is true).
I don’t know how this post looked posted byAnd I am a Catholic who listens to the local LCMS classical music radio station. They have “Joy” with Ron Clemm on Sunday mornings, and “By the Way” every morning at 5:59 AM, by Dr. Paul Devantier

His gentle voice reminds us to respond to Jesus every day. I find I have a lot more in common with Lutherans than I thought. His thoughts lead me to believe that the LCMS version of Sola Fides is not as strictly “Faith Only” as I had believed Martin Luther taught.
Yeah, it is ecumenical. I think that Protestants can learn and appreciate Catholic teaching from their teachers on EWTN and Catholic radio and I think Catholics can learn a lot from Protestant teaching as well. There is a lot of Catholic teaching that I like and that I find myself enjoying and learning from. I think Christians from all denomiations can focus on what unites them and how they can help each other in the common goal of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Now that is ecumenical!![]()

Exactly! It’s no more worshipping of dead saints than it is worshipping live saits when people even protestants go to their pasters or prayer warriors to aks them to pray and intercede for them. If asking someone to pray for you is the same as worshipping them then every single protestant worships their pasters and each other! Because they all ask for other living saints and ministers for prayer!war_eagle, I think bengal and ttg have already said what I might have said. But if you think making statues or asking saints to pray for you is tantamount to the worship reserved for God alone, then there’s your problem. Nice to read about the relics though, huh!![]()
I like Mother Angelica, she’s pretty funny.EWTN pretty much stays on 24/7 in my house for about 3 years now, ever since our cable began carrying it.
I learn from every single one of the segments and speakers/teachers, but Fr. Corapi :clapping: is my absolute favorite for several reasons:
my age, my generation, has been to the bottom and back, etc, but mostly because of his “in your face, I will teach it and preach it as long as I have breath in my body and will pull no punches, water it down or sweep it under the rug for anybody, anytime, anywhere, anyhow” approach.
I read and study the CCC, Catholicism for Dummies, New Jerusalem Bible on line, among other books & articles.
BTW: My heart was heavy when I read the post that someone didn’t care for the Mother Angelica segments…she was/is wonderfully real and pulled/pulls no punches, either.
Her absolute love and devotion to Jesus, and the desire that all would love know & Him,just oozed/oozes out of every pore, and she’s the first to let you know she’s just a weak struggling human with faults and failures.
I also admire her quick wit, sense of humor :whacky: and “plain speaking”.:tsktsk:

wait…what?!I find I have a lot more in common with Lutherans than I thought. His thoughts lead me to believe that the LCMS version of Sola Fides is not as strictly “Faith Only” as I had believed Martin Luther taught.
most protestestants DO NOT think catholics are non-Christian or a cult. MOST think of it as just another Christian denomination. i think many on here don’t understand what “anti-catholic” really is. for example, just because i am not jewish and i think that they don’t have the fullness of God because of their rejection of Jesus as the Messiah, doesn’t mean i am a member of the KKK or some other anti-semetic group. therefore, just because i am a protestant and believe that there are some issues where the catholic church (roman not universalMost protestants think Catholics are some kind of non Christian cult or the “whore of babylon”.Most I’ve ever known were anticatholic, I only know one who’s not anticatholic and that’s Bill Keller. He’s a good one to listen to.

Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. A very conservative branch of Lutheranism. No women pastors.wait…what?!
Well, what did he teach then?
Also, what does LCMS stand for…?
