Oh you would laugh your butt of at some of them
  1. John the baptist was (Baptist) hence the name
  2. "Real Christians were persecuted by Catholics so my church couldn’t be built until after the reformation
  3. Anabaptists predate Catholicism and were forced to worship underground (funny I thought Catholics were forced underground by Roman soldiers) but anyway his theories couldn’t hold water and when I show him proof of early writings he says "yeah, well, that’s just biased Catholic writing and I said “that’s the point!”

i notice thecoach doesn’t have a response for the info about Protestant communities having aa higher rate of child molestation than Catholics… twice as high…

you can’t argue with facts… or truth…

Well, i guess you can… but its kind of like… like this… :banghead: :ouch:
I am sure that he would loved to respond to you but he is banned…

I was in the Catacombs in Rome. Very emotional. I only went in the two that weren’t real deep cuz of my claustrophobia. There are writings on the walls that also prove the early Christians were Catholic in belief. You have to be there.

Yeah, I would actually love to be married in Rome someday.

Maybe so, but I notice that so far no one has taken up my challenge to show me a Protestant forum that behaves better toward Catholics than this one does toward Protestants.

Have you tried:

at all ? The temperature is lower than here (which is a nice change); maybe because none of them is trying to prove they are the only people in the right, & that everyone else is wrong or defective.
Christian Forums has a series of denominational sub-fora, including one for Catholics.

I think Protestants have found “new” ways to argue with Catholics rather than learn anything substantial from the forums. If they refuse to accept Catholic teachings then that’s their choice.

Matthew 8:28-34
Mark 6:11

I’ll tell you one thing that has happened to me, since discovering this and other related forums.

It has little to do with religion, however, but with increased gratitude to the United States of America.

Because of various discussions, arguments, etc on this and other forums of like nature (but mostly just here), I am reminded of why my ancestors chose to come to this wonderful, absolutely blessed land…to have religious freedom, the freedom to worship God as they see fit, and to be able to live their lives free of persecution and hatred.

Various discussions here and elsewhere have given me a ‘window’ into what my ancestors, on both sides, had to endure in Europe and Russia, where they originated from…and this gives me a much greater and deeper appreciation for what they had to endure and suffer just to come here…whether it was fleeing from country to country to escape a Spanish Inquisition that seemed to follow them, or whether it was enduring weeks in the steerage hold of a rat-infested ship to come through Ellis Island. Many times, during especially heated discussions, it dawned on me that if we were all in Europe a hundred years or so ago, we would not be debating like this, but quite possibly killing each other. And some of us would have to keep totally silent as to our beliefs, for fear of arrest, abuse or murder from the powers that be.

The United States of America might not be a perfect country (what country is?) but it is the BEST out there!

Thank God for it, and for its precious gift of religious freedom!

Sepharad,

I’m grateful for your post, both the positive and the negative.

I know I, for one, tend to forget too easily those things that you’ve just reminded us of.

!
on;y problem is, Protestants have more freedom to worship their way than Catholics do…’

If you don’t belive me… become a devout Catholic… (assuming you are not??)… an outspoken Catholics…

I have no clue why he was banned, distracted. I only know that he was banned because it says so under his name.

Peace!
He possibly came back as Pastor Jim;) … I could be way off, but the same day he was banned Pastor Jim started and seemed to argue with everything… the same way thecoach did (as in consistently rude for a minister)… just a wild guess don’t hold me to it:)

i’ve changed my mind about Christians in general…

I’ve seen how terribly rude and hostile they can be toward one another… :hypno:

although it is true that sometimes i don’t know how “Christian” any given poster claims to be… (when not here)

I agree 100%.

I would even say that when deciding whether to get into a conversation with someone on the internet, the main question to ask isn’t “Is this person Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant?” but rather “Is this person reasonable and courtesy toward those he/she disagrees with?”

Plus, just felt like a fish out of water… Also… can’t put my finger on this one thing, but it seemed that people instinctively knew that i wasn’t “one of them”… or am i just overly sensitive? but they didn’t seem so… QUOTE]sorry all for dragging this up late…no you weren’t feeling like a fish out of the water and most likely they didn’t know you weren’t "one of them"you nailed why you felt the way you did when you said you were missing the real presence…when i first woke up i headed off to the local non-denom “church”, after bailing on the true church, and i felt out of place too, what was missing i asked myself again and again,i found out the it was the “truth” was missing and who is the truth? Jesus Christ is…iow He wasn’t fully present there as He is in the catholic church under the accidents of the bread and wine.

I would agree with the posters above. I have been treated rudely on this forum, especially by people that call themselves “Catholics”. My Muslim friends have been treated poorly also.

If you are not a right wing republican you are not welcome here.

i don’t say they are lies… i am just saying that many Protestants think they are false beliefs… so why would a Protestant have a lot of respect for Catholics, yet reject Catholic doctrines… Kinda doesn’t make sense to me…
So you can’t respect someone without agreeing to all of their opinions?
That doesn’t hold water…

Personally, I’ve met RCs inhere who seem great, intelligent people, with whom one can have an actual debate…and I’ve met people who seem to be dumber than posts.
Neither has anything to do with what denomination they belong to - it has to do with their character.

Now, for the question:

Has anything said on these forums changed my mind on anything RC?

Well, I came to the forums in an ecumenical spirit - and am now even more strenghtened in my belief that the RCC has got several key issues wrong - based on the kind of reasoning I’ve met in people’s posts.

And now we’re at the topic of these forums: I find it EXTREMELY annoying that about 90% of the posts here seem to be baiting-threads; something like “Protestants, how do you explain…”, and the reply is either ignored or met with the standard-reply…
(please note that I am NOT speaking of genuine questions about what “protestants” actually believe and teach here! Only those who don’t really want to know, but want to use the question to start off the same, tired old story…)

And some of those who at first SEEM not to be baiting-threads, turn out to be anyway.

And those precious few that were NOT baiting-threads at all to start with - becomes baiting-threads, or people just refuse to answer your refutal of their posts, accusing you of being “a catholic-hater”, or having a “bad attitude”, etc, when you point that out.

Etc…

So, bottomline:
Have being on this site made me more open to RCC teachings?
No - on the contrary… It has strengthened my conviction in what I believed when I came here: That many of the teachings of the RCC are not only flawed, but inherently contradictory not only of Scripture, but self-contradictory as well…

And yeah, someone will probably respond to this post, calling me a “catholic-hater”, for stating the obvious.
Go ahead - see if I care. I’m getting sick and tired of stressing that I’m not, over and over again. So go ahead - if that makes you feel better, then say it…

I may sound a little bitter. Well, that’s one of the risks of prolonged exposure to CAF I think…

I think what’s needed is balance.

When you converse with Catholic posters on the internet, you’re going to hear everything from “Orthodox believe the same as Catholics” to “The Pope is infallible whenever he says anything about faith and morals” to “The Catholic Church has no problem with contraception” and so on. Clearly, you have to take what you hear with a grain of salt.

On the other hand, obviously you don’t want to take what you hear with such a large grain of salt as to effectively block it out. Then the whole thing would be an exercise in futility.

I don’t agree with you on everything there; but I think I agree with you on what’s most important.

I truly think it’s sad the way Catholicism get a bad rap because of some “bad egg” posters. (Not only those who misrepresent what Catholicism teaches, but also those who know what Catholicism really teaches but present it badly.)

And I wonder if we really need to rethink the whole “discussion forum” paradigm that is used by so many websites, including this one. (I know blogs are another option; but I just don’t think I’m a blog person.)

Makes PERFECT sense to me. I know a lot of Catholics I respect–that doesn’t mean I accept all the dogma of the Catholic Church.

I know a lot of Mormons I respect (frankly, many of them seem to live holier lives than Catholics OR Protestants). However, I have no respect for their doctrines.
