the Church’s teaching on baptism sates that baptism cause a regeneration in the soul-born again-…if you knew what baptism does for your soul why wouldn’t you do it? ?we are to be judged justly and not unfairly,so in all fairness cause one doesn’t do something they would have done if the knew they were to do it means they will be cast away?
Joly Joe was referring to the concept of “implicit faith” I think.

I used to worry about my Father-in-saw’s soul. He was a beautiful, wonderful soul. He was an Angel - all the things a Christian should be - charitable, loving, kind, caring…on and on. However he didn’t believe in God and died that way.

At the time I was out of the Church and not giving God a thought.

When I came back that is when I began to feel concern about his soul. I also understood that living under a facist regime where the Church did not censure the regime led many to feel betrayed by the Church and would have nothing to do with it. So athiesm was prevalent.

Then one day I discovered the concept of “implicit Faith”. You believe without realising it - you don’t KNOW you believe. Since I believe all good comes from God my Father-in-law had to fit into that category. It was the Holy Spirit that was turning him into an Angel because he showed all the signs. Nobody could have been better - he was short of being a Saint - he did not perform any miracles.

Therefore I feel SURE that there are many people of other Faiths who do not know Jesus who will certainly be welcome into the Kingdom of Heaven.

I’m sure. It’s common sense

Ever heard of the Counter-Revolution?

Sure the Church needed reform but it was not necessary to leave the Church and start the beginning of hundreds and thousands of churches.

I have had arrguments with my husband but don’t leave. We kiss and make up!

I believe that we all - Church and the Body of Christ - need constant renewal. We have to keep checking ourselves and keep in check.

It is a constant battle.

That is why we Catholics need the Holy Father and the Magesterium. To teach, guide and keep us on the rails. Jesus’ idea of appointing Peter and the apostolic succession which emanated from the first apostles was a great idea. He knew we would need it.

👍 :yup: :clapping: :dancing:

I think at this point protestantism is a bit past the rebelling from Rome stage? The real center of the church of Christ – collective of all the faithful endowed with truth – is the Jerusalem above as Paul states.

I am not sure if he was ever in Rome, but the Scriptures do NOT portray him as the head of anything. That much is very plain. Yes, I am saying he was never a pope to begin with. See my proofs posted on another thread. They were, of course, criticized, but not refuted.
Peter is always listed first in the Bible… Christ established his Church (first mentioned his Church in scirpture) in St. Matthew 16;18 where he made Peter the earthly head of hte Church…

You only read what you want to read in the Bible… i suppose its not your fault since that is the way Protestantism works… (assuming it “works”)… I am not trying to insult anyone… because i know that if i had been raised Protestant, i would probably be sayin the same things you and others are…

that is what i was saying …if one didn’t know they had to do something how could they be judged as if they knew…sola i guess i need to be more specific which “reformed” perspective are you talking about?is it the man made doctrine of the five solas, calvin taught this and he is just a man,not the church…faith alone was taught by just a man mr. luther, who was not the church

I am relatively new to these forums. You are so negative about the CC and yet I notice that you have been around for a year or so and have made 910 posts.

If the CC is just a bunch of lies why do you hang around? Beats me!

🤷
that’s the million dollar question…

or maybe its only 100 dollar question… 'cause i think i figured it out… more or less…

they just want to justify being protestant…

If they can, for instance, console themselves with the thought that say, Hitler was catholic (Back Fence) and/or that Catholics are uncharitable (because they disagree or at best, disagree imperfectly… you know… disagree in a human way, etc…)… well, anyway, if they can convince themselves of this kind of thing… it makes them feel that they are right to stay Protesant…

In answer to the original question yes, I have changed my mind as a direct result of these boards. Not being a very outgoing person it is hard for me to meet people in a church, or even approach a preist to chat about my questions. But since finding this forum I have been almost able to step into a situation similar to that and learn from the laity exactly what people believe and how they approach all different aspects.

My first thought was yay catholics seem friendly! My second thought was OH No… Clericalism. In fact the word clericalism wasn’t even a word in my vocabular before last night. I was reading posts about moral debate, and I was just turned off completely by the comabitve and abrasive attitudes of those people who consider themselves Serious Catholics. I am no one to judge others for their choices or actions, I myself make a million mistakes in one day that I need to confess to the Lord. But it seems quite uninviting to me. And I just hope and pray to Jesus that I am either able to find a welcoming place in the outside world or to find a verily sound moral church outside of RCC that I can grow in. I decided almost 70% in favor of not pursuing catholic communion as a result of the boards. I’m just not that hardcore and I am sure there are many who would condemn me as being not really catholic, and I could not in good conscience pursue that path knowing that I cannot 100% conform to all practices, beliefs and doctrines… 😦

what kinds of things said on the forums caused you to come to that conclusion?

as stated elsewhere… sometimes people sound uncharitable but one should see what is behind that seeming attitude… Catholics are the most persecuted of all Crhistians… (If you don’t believe me, go around spouting pro-Catholic stuff randomly…). Anyway… Catholics are human and they get very tired of livin in an anti-Catholic world. so it is no wonder they have virutally no patience with all the goofy ideas Prot always put forth against the Chudch and wht (they think) she teaches.

I wonder if you have ever put yourself in one of those Catholics’ shoes… but then, you couldn’t … unless you became Catholic yourself… or pretended to be… or what have you.

I have said things on this forum that i regretted… but i regretted them much later… like hours after posting or even the next day… i surprised myself that i said this or that… & repented to God… (even though what i have said doesn’t seem to take a cake to some of the other uncharitable stuff i have seen…)… Anyway, as you say yourself, we all make mistakes…

but if you let your “thing” with humans tell you wht religion you are going to accept… All i can say is good luck… you will never be in a church at all… except the one of you and God alone… which is one we should all be in once in awhile… but not to the exclusion of the Church Christ established for us… There is a reason for everything Christ did in setting up his earthly church… and we humans disregard what He did… to our own peril…

God bless…

one only needs 100% of the doctrines, these are what are essential to salvation.practices may come and go,as for beleifs i am not sure what you are meaning.i don’t know every “beleif” but i learn what i can when i can…

You are right technically, and I am sure that Catholics by and large are less in your face at church than other Christians, if I was to skate by as a fairly politically moderate person but also adhere to church doctrine I am sure most people wouldn’t know the difference or find out… But just knowing that so many people are strictly adherent and intolerant of exceptions it makes me feel inherently guilty about things which I conscientiously believe which may not conflict in some cases, but may also not be generally acceptable.

My main concern is the amount of political manipulation that is supported or fostered by the church. My three main objections are:
  1. Being told who or what to vote for.
  2. Being told what I can and cannot do.
  3. Rejecting people for secular political reasons as a means of making a political statement.
Personally I think there is nothing wrong with the church defending life, enforcing the doctrine against contraception and sexual relations (homosexual or straight) outside of marriage to it’s parishioners. But when the Church steps outside of it’s doors, and foists those regulations onto people or into politics who/which are not catholic, I cannot in good conscience support that. It’s one thing to rule your own, it’s another to try to rule the world which does not choose to belong to you.

The only exception I will make to that is the fight against abortion, but even for Catholics this reaches into contraception and safe sex, which in good faith I cannot support as a doctrine for all of humanity on a legal basis. If abortion was illegalized, it would never be enough for the Church. They would then move to illegalize contraception due to their beliefs. I couldn’t get behind that, while I myself would not use contraception and adhere to the doctrine, it does not seem righteous to me to make it illegal across the board or to shove it down non-religious people’s throats.

I personally am not the kind of person who would throw the baby out with the bathwater entirely. I wouldn’t condemn the Church or any entity just because I found one or two rotten apples (people). And you are right about persecution, but I think there is always a level of that going back out again at the rest of the world. Two wrongs don’t make a right as my Dad always said.
I wonder if you have ever put yourself in one of those Catholics’ shoes… but then, you couldn’t … unless you became Catholic yourself… or pretended to be… or what have you.
I have sort of pretended, but you are right I can’t until I can.

I am still learning, and I have my own personal habit of speaking loudly when I should very well just shut up.

hi again kemushi…“i am still learning, and i have my own personal habit of speaking loudly when i should just well shut up”.quoted from kemushi…if only we all could know when we should apply this to ourselves

I just have to say this: I was listening to EWTN this evening, and a great speaker was on Raymond Arroyos show, and he was a catholic democrat. Of all the things I have read on these forums I pretty much assumed that democrats are condemned. But here was a man who was a pro-life democrat. WHAT A RELIEF. I can go on. I prayed about this you see, and I was hoping that Jesus would show me the way. And he has. Thank you.

Hi

Is there a thread on Protestant liturgy? I would be most interested to learn about this.

Please indicate how I can get on such a thread.

Thanks:love:

Our liturgy in the Lutheran church takes pretty much the same form as the Mass. I can’t think of any major departures except for intercessory prayer.

Did you know that there is more child molestation in the protestant community… That it is actually twice as high as in the Catholic Church… ? Of course you didn’t know that… becaue you get your info from the Catholic - hating liberal media… they aren’t going to tell you that kind of thing… Or will they? I learned my info from them also… it just wasn’t on the front page of the newspaper… It never is… But when Catholics do something wrong, you can better believe it will broadcast into the outer reaches of the universe… ASAP.

Only 2% (somewhat less, actually) of priests are guilty of child molestation… What about the 98% + who are not?? And again, protestants are worse…(4%) & the in the general population, child molestation is 1 out of 4 for girls and 1 out of 6 for boys… 25-40%
Your wrong !! EWTN Radio reports that 5000 0f 42,000 Catholic priest have been found guilty or are suspect of Child Molesting . That is about 11% and also only those cases reported. Also the Catholic Church has spent years trying to cover it up and Millons of dollars in Law suits. Those are the facts.

11% … holy smokes? I never imagined the number was that high (actually I think the number is 12% or 11.9 to be exact if we divide 5K by 42K)? That equates to roughly one in eight priests. I just had a sinking feeling in my stomach.

I wonder where this began? In other words did this sort of abuse always exist within the church, did it begin with requiring celibacy among priests (which has not always been the case), or is this just a recent phenomena? I’d be curious to see a study on this.

Does being suspect mean being accused? If so then I would say that being accused doesn’t mean being guilty. Now I know some are guilty and even if it were 99% I would stay for the 1% and pray for the rest… Priests are human and humans can fail, but the Church will prevail.

Look I agree with you. I’m never one to throw stones… but 12%? Don’t you think that might give rise to reconsidering the celibacy requirement? Just a question.
