How could an Infallible book be of use to you, w/o an Infallible Interpreter?

please don’t say “we have the Holy Spirit with us”
because there is no way there can be morethan 30,000 Holy Spirit

and hence the word “Holy Spirit” it is not Plural:)

The Catholic Church Did not make any mistakes when they picked what books to include in the Holy Bible 🙂

Don’t you claim the Holy Spirit showed the CC the correct interpretation?

I don’t claim all I think I understand is correct, therefore, not all I understand if by the Holy Spirit. But the Truth I understand is from the Holy Spirit.

Paul penned much of the NT. He never claimed infallibility; quite the contrary. The miracle is that God uses the fallible to bring forth the infallible.

Why is the CC infallible? Because it says so.

Using that logic, the folks at the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas (the ones that picket soldiers funerals, etc.) are infallible as well, since they say so.

The OP’s question is quite valid, methinks. Doesn’t it hold up that the infallibility of Scripture is lost with incorrect interpretation? And who has the better chance of getting it right, those who have used, studied and prayed with the Scriptures under the assistance of the Holy Spirit for hundreds of years, or Joe Blow who picks up his bible, flips it to a random page, and picks a verse to interpret for the day?

Please don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying that Joe Blow won’t or can’t receive some sort of inspiration or lesson or motivation or whatever in his rudimentary studies. But where Scripture becomes controversial, he himself has to depend on the correct, infallible if you will, translation of the translators, no?

Pretty much anyone not steeped in the original biblical languages depends on someone else for correct interpretation.

And we all depend on the final Scriptural redactors who may have made changes in the original writings, and the original writers, especially those of the Gospels, didn’t get it right in, for example, the all the exact words of our Lord.

Which is all the more reason to have reliable guidance when interpreting Scripture.

Lets clarify. Are you saying that Protestants cannot get any use out of the Bible?
Are you also saying that we do not have the Holy Spirit with/in us?

Clarify please so I can answer your question.

Interpretations, YES
Search for Truth NO(Which means Yes you have the Holy Spirit to light your way in search for truth)

That is what the Holy Spirit is all about, TRUTH not TRUTHs

Who will infalliably interpret the sayings of the Infallible Interpreter?
why need to Interpret an Infallible Interpretation of an Infallible book?
Copy It, Instead of Interpreting it;)

Why do you need to interpret the infallible book in the first place then? copy it instead of interpreting it 😉

How could you interpret an Infallible book w/o an Infallible interpreter? :o
and If you just “Copy” it instead of interpreting it, you might morethan 30,000 interpretations of it

What use is a book w/o understanding it?
reading the words, or copying the words w/o knowing the words is nothing.

Firstly, there are not 30,000 interpretations of the Bible. That is a load of bunk.
Secondly, it’s not that hard to understand for the most part.
Thridly, the parts that are difficult to understand are still difficult even when interpreted by the Catholic Church.
Fourth, the CC has not interpreted all of the Bible
and fifth, Sola scriptura is not the cause of all the divisions in the church as you appear to be implying.

They are only hard to understand when you have your own interpretations

Fourth, the CC has not interpreted all of the Bible

ofcourse not, It is just one of the causes

We claim the men of the Church wrote the scriptures and taught the interpretation to those they passed the scriptures too. Those men passed along the scriptures with the interpretation. Eventually, men of the Church who received the scriptures and interpretations, defined the canon of the New Testament. Then men of the Church preserved the scriptures and interpretations through the ages. When the Protestant reformation took place, they took copies of the Bible with them, but they didn’t take the interpretations. They began interpreting for themselves.

To believe that Paul wrote ‘fallibly’ is to doubt God’s power to inspire His infallible word be written. In other words, if Paul is to be taken as his teachings were fallible, then his writings cannot be infallible. But we all believe in God’s power to inspire His word through fallible men. Fallible men wrote scriptures, defined the canon of scriptures, added chapter and verse numbers, added punctuation, translated the scripture languages, and preserved the scriptures. At what point do we decide the scriptures can no longer be trusted? Again, we don’t doubt because we believe in God’s power to protect His truth. God can protect His truth in His written word, that He inspired, or His Church, that He built.

The Catholic Church says it’s infallible, because of scriptures, specifically those where Christ spoke to those He appointed over His Church and those God inspired words telling us that the Church of the Living God is the pillar and ground of truth.

**Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

Joh 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

Joh 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.**

It would be nice if some recognized the Catholic Church teaches from an interpretation of scriptures, as opposed to making general statements such as, ‘because the Catholic Church says so.’

the only source i have seen for your 30,000 number includes a whole lot of misinformation and creative word definitions. it also includes over 2,000 CATHOLIC “denominations” I will explain the 28,000 interpretations when you are done explaining the varying 2,000 Catholic ones.
Secondly, it’s not that hard to understand for the most part.

What is hard about thou shalt not kill? Or “God is love”? It says what it says.
Fourth, the CC has not interpreted all of the Bible
Please point me to the link where every verse of Scripture is defined and explained by the Catholic Church. I would find it very enlightening.

  1. Where are we told which one of the 2.1 billion believers in 2010 is this “INFALLIBLE” interpreter?
  2. Did you know that the word “infallible” never appears in the Bible?
  3. LOTS of things are “useful” that are not INFALLIBLE. My computer. Shoes. Starbucks coffee. Valentine cards. Deodorant. My Toyota Camry (not being recalled, btw). The jet I took to Phoenix the other day. The law that says that normally we drive on the right hand side of the road in the USA.
  4. I think your “problem” is with self appointing self as the sole and infallible interpreter. But I remind you that there actually is only ONE that does that: The Catholic Church. Read your Catechism # 85 and 87. You will find NOTHING of that in the Catechism of ANY other denomination. Your “problem” I suspect is singularly with The Catholic Church on this point, and frankly, I agree with you.
Thank you.
