Scare the Hell out of them

)… What better work of mercy is there??? Who says it does? My motive in converting (trying to) Protestants is because i care about them… For you to assume otherwise… rather says more about you than it does about me…
I disagree obviously and would rather spend my time first starting with what we AGREE with amongst our Protestant friends. You choose to immediately jump on the differences and sit in the judgment seat. I can tell that when you say, “it says more about you than it does about me.” This isn’t a popularity contest or a game to see who can scare protestants to death. Did you work in the Bush administration or in **** Chaney’s office? Fear is an effective tool—for a while. And for you to say that you’ll scare the hell out of them implies you don’t have any hell personally to deal with so you can best spend your time enlightening others.
How much time do you spend looking at yourself and thinking about your sinfulness, your need for redemption, your weakness, and your need for Christ? That’s what the Lord wants of us. He never said to “go forth and scare the snot out of people in my Holy Name!”
If all you have is fear, your argument is weak. Pharisees spent their time in such a manner—scaring folks into submission, dwelling on those who weren’t as “enlightened” as they, and sitting in condescencion among their own people.
Catholicism need not be a hell-focused fear factor sideshow. In fact, it is not indeed. Our faith is full of beauties—the Eucharist among six other splendid sacraments. We are pro-life, we have the BVM and her intercession, a loving Holy Father, 2000 years of tradition, wonderful sacramentals, a strong communion of saints, ancient creeds, and apostolic succession. We have so much more. I would like to see us dwell on what we have and NOT what protestants are going to face in the fires of purgatory or hell. We have much in common with protestants in the way of scripture, the trinity, baptism, a love of the Lord, many are pro-life, many celebrate Lent, many appreciate the pope’s leadership despite disagreements, and on and on.
Pitying and scaring just is a weak strategy and evidence of poor evangelization.
