There should be deacons, ministers and elders in the body but not an “organization”. You limit the authority given to all believers.
Please show me the scriptures where the authority was given to all believers?

We can learn from everything Christ said, however, one must read the context of who was being spoken too.
This is a great psssage for election, predestination and prayer only through Jesus to the Father. Again all believers should exercise this it’s not limited to a select few.
Did Christ choose all, or did He choose 12? Did He give all the keys to the kingdom of heaven? Did He give all the authority to bind and loose? Did He give all the authority to forgive and retain sins?

Please tell me how all are supposed to bind and loose on earth with a promise it would be bound and loosed in heaven?

Please tell me how all have the authority to forgive and retain sins?

The scriptures teach us an authoritative Church.

**Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word: and the Word was with God: and the Word was God.

Mat 28:18 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

Joh 20:23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.

1Co 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread,
1Co 11:24 And giving thanks, broke and said: Take ye and eat: This is my body, which shall be delivered for you. This do for the commemoration of me.

Luk 10:16 He that heareth you heareth me: and he that despiseth you despiseth me: and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

Mat 18:18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven.

Mat 18:17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican.

Heb 13:17 Obey your prelates and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls: that they may do this with joy and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.

Heb 13:24 Salute all your prelates and all the saints. The brethren from Italy salute you.

1Ti 5:17 Let the priests that rule well be esteemed worthy of double honour: especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Eph 3:10 That the manifold wisdom of God may be made
known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church,**

Scriptues show us the ‘election’ of those to lead us.

**Mal 2:7 For the lips of the priests shall keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth: because he is the angel of the Lord of hosts.

Eph 2:20 Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone:

Eph 4:11 And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and other some evangelists, and other some pastors and doctors:

1Co 12:28 And God indeed hath set some in the church; first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly doctors: after that miracles: then the graces of healings, helps, governments, kinds of tongues, interpretations of speeches.
1Co 12:29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all doctors?

Act 1:20 For it is written in the book of Psalms: Let their habitation become desolate, and let there be none to dwell therein. And his bishopric let another take.

Act 1:25 To take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas hath by transgression fallen, that he might go to his own place.
Act 1:26 And they gave them lot, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

1Ti 3:1 A faithful saying: If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth good work.

1Ti 3:8 Deacons in like manner: chaste, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre:

1Ti 5:17 Let the priests that rule well be esteemed worthy of double honour: especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1Ti 4:14 Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.

1Ti 5:22 Impose not hands lightly upon any man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins. Keep thyself chaste.

Act 14:23 (14:22) And when they had ordained to them priests in every church and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed.

2Ti 2:2 And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men who shall be fit to teach others also.

Tit 1:5 For this cause I left thee in Crete: that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting and shouldest ordain priests in every city, as I also appointed thee:**

All very good and great verses, know them by heart. But nowhere does it say these verses only for a select few they are for all of us who bekieve in Jesus as our S:thumbsup:avior.
Please show us the scriptures where Christ appointed ALL people, or where Christ said anyone could appoint themself?

The scriptures are for all to learn, but it doesn’t mean we can assume an authority because we desire it. You have to read the context of who the Lord was addressing when He spoke. There are times He only spoke to the 12 He chose and appointed. They have the authority, not the multitudes.

The word of God is for all believers, you show me wheree it says Catholic.

The church is the body of believers not an organization. Believers are called to go into all the world and make disciples of all men. We are to preach the good news found in the bible they will not know the word unless we bring it to them. The bible is truth.

All you can see is denominations not the work of Christ. Why do you have so many different religious orders? They sound like denominations to me.
All religious orders answer to the Church. They are not fragments of the Church.

Please let’s not make this an ‘inquistion’. I have asked sincere questions and requested scriptures and explanations, but I seem to be the only one providing scriptures and explanations.

How can multiple truths, held by multiple denominations, be ONE truth?

Why did God inspire it be written the Church of the living God is the pillar and ground of truth instead of the scriptures?

Why is it God inspired it be written the manifold wisdom of God maybe made known through the Church, instead of scriptures?

Why is it Christ taught to take disputes to the Church, instead of scriptures, if scriptures is the sole authority?

Tweetymom, I agreed that scriptures are for all believers. It’s the interpretation that is not for all believers. Please show me where scriptures state it’s for all believers to interpret for themselves? The examples I have used were specifically times Christ spoke to the Apostles only, easy to see when read in context.

I’ll start by showing an example of ‘authority’ having to explain scriptures to the people so that they could understand.

**Nehemiah 8

1And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

2And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

3And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

4And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

5And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

6And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

7Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

8So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.**

Where’s the authority in the adoption given us through our faith? Being believers does not give us authority as those Christ chose over His Church.

Gal 3:26 For you are all the children of God, by faith in Christ Jesus.

There are many scriptures that teach us the authority through Apostolic succession and appointments from those with authority.

How can the many denominations, with different doctrines, have the authority? There was one Church, as Christ intended and prayed for. Are the many different believers, believing different things all of the same mind and accord or judgement, as scriptures teach us to be?

I understand each of these scriptures by heart. My point is it does not mention CC as the body of Christ. We believers are all the body of Christ. Just because someone decided to say the CC is the only one does not make it so. But God Bless you on your jour5ney, and may He come alive to you.

…Why is it Catholics are always wrong and Protestants are always right?..
LOL. Don’t freak out. I feel your pain, as a Catholic that posts in a lot of protestant forums.

It comes down to one word: PRIDE. You see, if the Catholic is right, then that opens up the possibility that Catholicism is right. And if Catholicism is right (which it is) then protestants can no longer be their own ultimate authority in Bible interpretation: They would have to humble themselves and submit to an authority higher than themselves, and they could never bring themselves to do that, because of PRIDE.

But in fairness, I don’t think the vehement anti-Catholic protestants you find online in forums represent the average day-to-day protestant who just goes to work and comes home every day. Online protestants are often a hateful breed, but a minority I think.

In the year 110AD, St. Ignatius wrote the following.
**Chapter VIII.-Let Nothing Be Done Without the Bishop.
See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution(55) of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper(56) Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church**. It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid.(57)
Please note he was not introducing the term. It was being used as if everyone already knew what he was speaking about.

The Church is the body of Christ. Is Christ divided? Which one Church do you believe is the body of Christ? Which Church do you attend?

1Co 1:9 God is faithful: by whom you are called unto the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no schisms among you: but that you be perfect in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1Co 1:11 For it hath been signified unto me, my brethren, of you, by them that are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith: I indeed am of Paul; and I am of Apollo; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul then crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

…Be no schisms among you: but that you be perfect in the same mind and in the same judgment. Does this sound like many different Churches?

If it’s not the Catholic Church, as you claim, you should provide us with which Church it is that is of the same mind and judgment, that has existed since the beginning of the Church…

I don’t think it, I know it.

BUT: I won’t say they are ALWAYS wrong. They teach much truth. But they have error mixed in with their truth.

Only the Catholic Church infallibly teaches the fullness of what Christ taught.

tweetymom, I have done my best to respond to all questions and points raised, with scriptures to support my view. I have raised several questions and points myself, none of which have been directly responded too. Why?

If the Bible is the only authority, surely it will say so. Please provide the scriptures that specifically state that scriptures are the only authority for all Christians?

The question is as fair as someone stating, the Church is not the Catholic Church because it does not say it’s the Catholic Church. Using the same tactics, one can claim it does not say it’s not the Catholic Church!

Once again, correct, ProdicalSon. However, when the CC tells everyone else they are wrong on specific issues, aren’t they causing a division? I think Paul wrote on this issue (sort of) in Romans 14. Note, Paul doesn’t tell the ‘stronger’ members to ‘lord’ it over the weaker telling the weaker members that they are wrong. (I understand the shoe fits both of us but seeing how you believe your church is the only correct and true decendant of the original church, the shoe fits you better.)
