I’m not a Christian, but I’m very well versed in (traditional) Catholicism for various reasons. Please name the Number One thing you think is the hardest to believe about Catholicism. Thanks.
I’d have to say the number one thing I find weird/odd/hard to accept is the believe that Catholics think they are eating the flesh of their deity, and drinking his blood. What I find even odder is that they believe Jesus told them to literally do that…he was a Jew, and Jews are strongly forbidden from eating any manner of blood (Leviticus).
The second odd thing is their belief in Mary as mediatrix of all graces. Now this would perturb a Protestant perhaps more than me…but the belief that everything good Catholics get from Jesus comes via Mary first, just sounds…! Though as a Jew, I recognize that Jesus was a Jew, and knowing how controlling many Jewish mothers are of their sons, I can almost see her insisting that she OK everything before he does it!
And third, when I was growing up, those of us who were not Catholics always tended to think less of the religious Catholics we knew, because we knew they had to promise to obey the church no matter what. We always saw that as stupidity, because in my religion at least, we are taught to question everything. So it made us think less of Catholics to a degree, because we saw them as mindless robots who did anything their church told them to (it was not until I was an adult that I learned of the little-discussed Catholic principle of following an informed conscience first.)
You asked for one, but I gave you three!
