Fair enough, just realize that it doesn’t prohibit it.
Also, the true purpose of the rosary is meditation. So in that sense it really is a spontaneous prayer. So why do we cloud up our meditation of the mysteries by saying prayers by rote? So that we keep focus. A typical rosary takes 15-20 minutes. I don’t know about you guys, but praying spontaneously for 20 minutes is pretty tough. Heck, praying spontaneously for 5 minutes can be quite a load. By sitting down to the rosary we commit ourselves to a long period of meditative prayer. Because of its repetitive nature, our mind doesn’t wonder. Seriously, If I were to just sit down and randomly start saying mental prayer, my thoughts would eventually drift to the approaching Steelers vs Panthers Super Bowl.
What is prohibited is “vain” repetition “like heathen”, honestly I don’t really know what it means, maybe there is an allusion to a very specific way of praying like repeating magical formulas or something like that, I have no idea …
But for me anyhow the problem is with praying somebody else than God, with or without rosary doesn’t change anything …
If you use it or not it is YOUR problem ( if it is a problem, it seems a lot of French Catholics don’t use although they also pray Hail Mary ), not really mine, I just tried to answer the question that has been asked on this thread …
