To study the substance of the claim for its truthfulness. Since your church makes these great claims based on Sacred Traditions then it should be no problem to see what they are and there origins.
You will find the substance of the Teachings in the Catechism.
I think it IS a problem for you to see what their origins are. The problem comes from your preconceived notion that the Bible is the only source of Divine Revelation. As a result, you cannot perceive the substance and origins of the Sacred Teachings of Jesus and the Apostles if they don’t jump out at you from the pages of scripture.
…since i don’t see the evidence for the claim. Its like trying to nail jello to the wall.
Right! and my question to you is, why do you keep trying to nail this jello to the wall? Since you have already made up your mind that these Teachings are nothing more than the “speculations of men” and are not grounded in scripture, why concern yourself with them?
I’m beginning to think that such a thing really doesn’t exist and is something that is introduced in the discussion that has no real substance. I don’t see how it tells catholics anything.
Oh, no, it is not a beginning. You did not think they existed BEFORE The discussion started. Yes, the Sacred Teachings were introduced into the discussion by Catholics who recieve the commandment in 2 Thess. 2:15. They have no substance FOR YOU because you reject this commandment. You cannot see how these Teachings tell Catholics anything because you cannot see that they exist! Of course you believe this way, since you started out with the foundation that no Divine Revelation outside scripture exists. How could you end up with any other conclusion?
i know catholics accept these things as true. However due to the nature of these sacred traditons and the claims made in regard to them, they really don’t support what the apostles taught.
This is a good example of my point. You have already made up your mind that the Sacred Tradition is not what the Apostles taught. For those of us that accept the commandment, this is an absurd notion. We know that the Sacred Writing and the Sacred Oral Teachings originate from the same Apostolic source.
Church goes far beyond what the apostles taught with so many of its doctrines.
What we see in the NT is the mustard seed. What we see in the modern Church is the mustard bush.
I’m interested because the truth matters. If what the catholic church teaches is true, then there must be evidence for it.
I think you have already made up your mind that the NT is the ONLY truth. You have posted this repeatedly. You have also stated that nothing that is taught that you cannot see in the NT is “speculation of men”. It seems that there is no need for you to have any further “evidence” is there?
If you want to claim the sacred traditions support your beliefs then i would think you would want to know the foundation of these traditions i.e. who taught it, when and on what scriptural basis are they using to support the claim.
Well, those who accept the Apostolic traditions know that they are founded upon the teachings of Jesus, our sure foundation. As I have told you many times, and will continue to the limit of my patience, Catholic teaching does not come from “scriptural basis” but from the teaching of Jesus. The NT emanates (comes from) that Apostolic teaching, and is a distillation of the Apostolic Teaching. the Catholic teaching pre-dated the NT by decades.
This is the only way to avoid being deceived by false teachers which the scriptures warned would come into the church itself. Sadly i see catholics unwilling or fearful to hold their church accountable.
Catholics do not consider themselves better than God, ja4. Jesus gave the Church the HS to guide us into all truth, and promised that He would be with us until the end of the age. The Church trusts that God’s arm is not too short to keep His promise. We therefore can fully trust that He is able to preserve us from error, and we do not have to rely on our own limited understanding of the Divine Revelation, as you do.
How does not knowing what the specific traditions are, their origins and there grounding in scripture provide you with a fuller understanding?
This is not the case for Catholics, ja4. We know their origins, and we understand their grounding in scripture. It is you who are lacking the fuller understanding, because you believe the Sacred Traditions are “speculations of men”.
